| absolutely disgraceful, how can they not even show the heats of teh 200m after what Usain bolt did a few nights ago? So many Australians in so many events have been neglected its shameful. We wait 4 years for this only for it to be ruined by ch 7. I'd love to know their reasoning. Maybe we could stephanie Rice into some of the athletics events so we can finally give it some decent coverage. |

I too want to voice my disappointment at the quality of the 7 Networks coverage of the Olympic Games. It all started so badly when Bruce McAvaney & Sonia Kruger opened with commentary between adds for the opening ceremony, uninformed, no research and comments totally inappropriate especially by Kruger filled the two or three minutes between the six minutes of adds.
Every day my disappointment starts at 6am where each morning I convince myself that today will be better, it begins with "The Three Stooges" plus Barretta, it could start earlier or heaven forbid be 24hrs but instead 7 has to squeeze out more revenue by running those stupid infomercials.
Alas Moe(Nat),Larry (Kosh)& Curly(Mel)torture me for the next three hours with embarrassing questions to athlete's family they have corralled in the studio, idiot attempts to be humorous and the only moment of clarity comes when Jodie Henry & Michael Klim are given half an opportunity to speak, usually Kosh or Mel have asked yet another stupid question or interrupted with a glib comment before they have finished.
I foolishly wonder where the "experts" from the other Olympic events that have been competing all week are, but quickly slap myself back to reality, Australia has no competitors in any other event except swimming and we really only have one swimmer now, the "beautiful, bankable, irresistible, gorgeous" Stephanie Rice is our only swimmer to win a gold medal..... isn’t she!
Then comes the children’s show, what the!!!!! and Yum Char follows and one set of three stooges is replaced by another, only this time Sonia Kruger is not only a stooge she is genuinely dumb, asks the most ridiculous questions and is constantly on the verge of a smarmy sexual innuendo, Rebecca Wilson you should be ashamed and should know better, Andrew Dado should stick to children’s books.

Part TWO
Then sometime after this we start with the repeats of the repeats which repeat the repeats we have already seen, generally all swimming, is Michael Phelps now an Aussie, you would think so given the coverage he has received.
Australias womens basketball game against Latvia did not rate even a highlight, no replay no coverage, the rifle shooting medal, no coverage, almost no boxing, though we have managed to get some athletics between the swimming.
SHAME, SHAME, SHAME Channel 7, your unprofessional presentation of this wonderful and historic event is disgraceful and an embarrassment.
You should be banned from ever having the rights again and every Australian should write to the IOC to complain.
PS Telstra, Macas, Ford you have done your products no favours by literally buying into this farce. |

I dont even like most sport and find the Olympics generally over-hyped BUT usually, every time it comes around, I get sucked in despite myself and become involved in cheering on teams, from Australia and from other countries, including many I've never heard of before - in sports I know nothing about. Because of this I usually end up enjoying the Olympics especially where I get a sense of the stories and/or build up to an event.
This hasnt happened with these Olympics. I feel totally bored, disconnected and uninspired by it. I've found the telecast disjointed and confusing and there doesnt seem to be any excitement around any events bar the odd swimming thing with an Aussie in it.
Is that all due to Ch 7? Is there something wrong with how China arranged it all? A bit of both? I dont know. All I do know is that I've got an awful lot done around the house in the last few days, my tax is nearly up to date and now, the lawn and garden are looking spectacular after Seven's insistence on running the footy this weekend instead of interesting Olympic events. Thanks a lot Seven. |

Without mentioning the coverage itself,-the spelling mistakes in the event names (is it Keirin or Kieren for cycling Channel7?), the wrong introductory visuals played (someone doesn't know the difference between Volleyball and Beach Volleyball) or the inane events screened when Australian isn't competing, my ENORMOUS objection is with the commentators.
If I hear Andrew Gaze say the word "Athleticism" one more time, i'll throw a basketball at my television.
And WHAT is Tom Williams doing as a commentator??
We apparently have no faith in our gymnasts- in commentary, every other country is capable of their routines yet when an Australian takes on an apparatus, the words "fall", "error" "slip" creep into the commentary- then invariably occur in the routine- it's like that woman puts a curse on them!
Can I have a show of hands, will anyone watching die if they don't hear from an athlete before they've caught their breath enough to blow out a candle?!
Harassment of Tamsin Lewis after her 800m semi final was just uncalled for and the underlying tones used after Sullivan's silver (by point bee's-dick of a second mind you) Well, it was like he'd offended every Australian by not winning and he shouldn't bother coming home!
And last but not least, we all know that beauty goes a long way but the Olympics is more than Zoo weekly and sponsorships... so I am DISGUSTED by the way our 'less glamorous' athletes are being treated by commentary teams. Hell, if you're Libby Trickett, you don't even need to win a medal to overshadow the 16 year old Aussie that DID place (not that Cate Campbell wont grow up to be a STUNNER either). Jessicah Shipper also suffered in the enormous "Libby Shadow"- Apparently Australia placing 1st AND 3rd doesn't rate a mention if the 'right' person got first.
I am ashamed to think that the opinions of these 'experts' are the soundtrack to history in the making. What a display of bad sportsmanship by 7 if we can't support our own team. |

| The coverage is a farce. Virtually no athletics have been shown. What paltry amount that has is rarely live. What was the point of building the Birds Nest stadium. No point at all for us. For me an athletics fan I can say this is the worst coverage of any olympics ever. Well since Moscow. I should be watching the womens steeplechase now. But I am writing this. You have a responsibilty to provide adequate coverage. You are failing. |

I would like to know the who is the person I need to email in regard to the time tabling of sport coverage at the Olympics. Why does the Australian Hockey community been treated so poorly. The coverage has been poor and we have been subjected to watching non Australian sport. I am sitting here at 11.20PM at night typing this as the hockey has just come on. What I am also disappointed is why are we still waiting to see the secondhalf of the hockey to watch Greece V Team USA in the basketball. the whole thing is disappointing. I am happy to see anything Australian and was happy to watch all 6.5 hours of the Mens and Womens cycling road race.
Please i want to send a detailed email to someone or talk to someone.
Its now Friday night Saturday morning 12.30AM and NO hockey on TV! |

All these complaints about channel 7's shockingly awful and disgustingly cynical coverage of the 2008 Olympic Games are scattered over many threads. I think it will make more impact if we can register our protest through the number of replies in one thread.
So here it is!
I invite you each to register your reply here if you agree that Channel Seven's coverage of the Beijing Olympics stinks. |
