I know this is an old post, the couple who purchased the gift shop in Port Douglas in the first episodes are still here.

I sell real estate in Port Douglas, and any potential sea changers who want to come here can contact me through our website.

Dear Sotherntrybe ,
Couldn't agree more . My family & I have done the same thing.
We lived in the Hawkesbury for over 20 years , I was working shiftwork then retired in 97' .Wife working in bank for many years, Kids now 19 & 16 years . Traffic getting worse. Costs for living in the suburbs getting dearer. Land and house prices unobtainable. We had had enough !! Put our house on the market , took almost 2 years to sell , had to reduce price . We purchased 25 acres of land just west of Lithgow and are now planning to build large colonial homestead and enjoy the country lifestyle with no more stress and hopefully live longer . The City Slickers we left behind in our dust can all drown in the saliva of their own nervous breakdowns !!

My advice to anyone doing a seachange, is don't look back with sadness on what you've left behind...look forward to enjoying special times with family and friends when they come for a visit....and there is always someone visiting when you live in Port Douglas! Simply Paradise.....

Hi, sounds familiar. After living in the Philippines for 5 years I was asked to move back to Australia and could live wherever I want as my business is on the net, and chose to move back to Port Douglas.

I love Port, you have all the good things, and none of the bad, and if we want movies, malls etc Cairns is only an hour away.

If you have kids you should know that every tuesday at the neighbourhood center they have a kids playgroup.

Maybe we will see you there.

It has been 7 months since my husband and 3 children made the move from Wollongong NSW to Port Douglas FNQ.My husband worked 7 days a week working 2 jobs and travelling for 4 hours a day leaving the house at 3am and getting home at 8pm we never saw him and we were all unhappy. Now he rides his pushbike to work and is home by 4pm, we are all healthier and have lost weight the kids are happy, great weather all year round. There are no fast food chains we are outdoors more and the locals are so friendly.Still get homesick for the convenience of things and our family of course that are still comiing to terms with our rash decision but hopefully we will get over the homesickness???never regret the move life is too short. This show has reassured us that we are not the only ones that take chances and pack up and move in search of a better life. The grass really is greener on the other side.
