Would like to ask the question about sea change.
I have to know why people leave a good job, house, friends and family. To live somewhere new that offers nothing like what they leave and then they want to go back to the place they left in the first place.
I have done the same and left my home of QLD between Brisbane and the Gold Coast and came to Melbourne 8years ago now, found a job or job's studied in school got married and bought a house'.
Holidaying in QLD three weeks ago realised I will not turn back and not want to live ther as it has lost its charm and become to commercialized fast paced.
I ask this because I met a family while I was up in QLD that moved from Melbourne 5months ago and did nothing but complain about the people the place and that they had left every thing behind.
I thought it was about starting anew and finding new things in life that has more to offer. |

yes silby, i fully understand your dilemma as my wife and I are in a similar situation,we came up to Brisbane to give it a go after living in Sydney for well over a decade and we're looking at returning.
Like you, I have no regrets, i have a good paying job but in my line of work in the transport industry, i shouldn't have much problem finding work on my return.
It's been a great learning curve and the change was good for the soul but i have absolutely no lifestyle here,so while the housing prices are still flat, we'll buy something close to where we were before and return after settlement.
Brisbane has many issues at the moment and we have found the cost of living up here far exeeds what it is in Sydney anywhere from the common groceries to health insurance, is far more expensive in Brissy....oh well, we gave it a go but the grass was definately not greener....for us anyways!! |

| Hi, agree with the plastic on the gold coast, we are in the thick of it in photography makeup & film. People don't realize that behind the scenes is hard work and the plasticness is only skin deep. We are planning a move south and cannot wait to get away from GC. Melbourne is lovely, best cloths shopping ever. |

| How interesting - I have a real yearning to go to Tassie too! Have been there twice for short holidays and absolutely loved it! I might end up there one day too but for now my sons come first. |

| In March this year we made the big move from central Victoria to the Gold Coast but found it too 'plastic'. In September we moved again to Bribie Island which is truly a taste of paradise. But we've discovered, although you can meet new people, old friends who have been through everything with you are irreplaceable. We miss our nearest and dearest too much so are heading back to Central Vic next February. I don't see our year as a failure but rather a huge learning curve. |
