Thanks Trekker! Without getting into it, I know a lot about all of this! There are good & bad acts around the world & I have seen my share of both! In the USA, the Americans love to be entertained & whether they know you or not, they enjoy the possibilities of a good show & are never afraid to tell you or show you their appreciation. They are something else for entertainers!

In Oz & even worse, in the U.K, they all suffer from Tall Poppy syndrome which is why many talented people in certain genres, leave home!

Reecently I went and saw a friend of mine in his show THE CANDY MAN, in Brisbane! He worked his butt off & with such good music & consummate tributes to the great Song & Dance Men, none more so than Sammy Davis! The audience...were so inward & I felt for him. The attitude seemed to be "We have nowhere else to go tonight so let's go to the QPAC to a show" But...one forgets after being away in the USA for so long!

Without putting too much dirt on Andre, there's a Violinist in Sydney who can play the pants of Andre, but pretty much works abroad to make a living & most Aussies wouldn't know him! It truly is sad!!

The jazz scene....that's different again but the same in regards to commercial support! Much of the problem is radio play, TV in some cases, not moving unless record companies say so! Meaning....if you don't have a LABEL.... we are not going to tell the public that you have got talent & you won't get the chance to show your wares!!

Clubs used to be supporters of variety BUT now that variety venues have all but dried up, the club audiences WILL NOT pay to go listen to anyone! They blame TAXES but in reality....accountants are the entertaiment managers combined with poor management!

One day....it will all fall back into place but Mark Vincent will probably be retired by then! Heh, heh....

None-the-less....we hope that talent like his will shine & wherever it takes him, he keeps that down-to-earth attitude.

nice post paul - so true about aussie talent having to go overseas. I don't understand why people pay so much to go see Andre Reuuuuuuuuuewwwww yet expect to see someone like Mark Vincent for free.

I used to see this all the time in the jazz scene...Australia has some of the very best jazz musicians in existance. People will pay a lot of money to see a visiting third rate "no-name" American jazz band yet refuse to pay a $5 covercharge to see local talent that blows the internationals off the stage.

Let's hope not paul. Agree with you about Andre though - shocker and millions pay to see him. All gets down to personal taste doesn't it.

It's unbelieveable for me to think that Aussie audiences are still so uneducated & narrow-minded! I am an Aussie living in the States & I think that young man who won the quest last night deserves it without hesitation! He's got a talent! No high pitched warbling like the Pop singers on Idol but clear precise singing of which he will only get better as he gets older! The unfortunate truth is that he will probably have to go O/S to make a living because Australia will not support him or his talent....as usual! Record companies there certainly won't be interested either because he may have too much longevity! Aussies are notorious for letting their talents go by way of no support whilst they are busy paying $250 to go see a 3RD CHAIR violinist like that Andre Rieu. IT'S JUST INSANE.....
