David Campbell is too old, too tall, too broad and too caucasian to play a young, short, slimly built Italian.
Anthony is not, by the way 5'2'...he's closer to 5'5".
Anthony Callea does have a very strong tenor voice, with beautiful falsetto, he can sing in multipart harmony and he can sing ,as Marina Prior says, "ANYTHING!!" but I imagine he'll be either tied down with Wicked, or busy touring his own concerts by the time Jersey Boys makes it's run. |

Well, it is going to be interesting to see who is cast as Frankie Valli.
I am not sure what Anthony's range is. Is he a tenor who can sing falsetto? That sounds more like David Hobson, but of course he is too tall and too old. Is there a recording of Anthony on You Tube singing a straight Pop or Swing (?) song from the Four Seasons era? |

I would have thought that at 5ft 2 ins Anthony Callea would be too short.
The requirement for the principal role is 5 ft 9 ins.
This is David Campbell's height, and his stage experience far exceeds Anthony's. Also he sings songs from the Frankie Valli era, including Can't Take My Eyes Off You, which he sang with Jolene in ITT.
They have started auditions. Does anyone know who has fronted up so far? |

Does anyone know when Jersey Boys is supposed to start? Isn't the first run of Wicked in Melbourne only scheduled for 3 months or something? Surely they wouldn't get a new production of the ground that quickly. Then again I'm not a musical officienado so I am only guessing.
Anyway, it would be a tragedy if they overran because I agree with some of the comments above that Anthony Callea would make a tremendous Frankie Valli. |

| I'm sure there's plenty of suitable candidates for the Frankie Valli role out there, but Anthony is the only one from ITT that seems to fit the bill to me. I'd actually rather see him tackle this role than Boq in Wicked, if it came down to a choice. I'd imagine he's contracted to Wicked past the Jersey Boys start date though. |

| absolutely see Anthony in this role, but as Teecee says, he's probably busy already, or he may want to get back into his own music by the time this one rolls around. |

| Short, Italian, sweet falsetto...yes, I can definitely see Callea as Frankie Valli, but I imagine that he'll be tied up with Wicked, unless of course he only signed on for a short term run. |

Sounds like a perfect part for Anthony in my opinion, and yes your right Frankie Valli's music is not from the 80's era more 50's 60's right up to the 70's, but its darn good music. Would be nice to hear some of his greats:
"Big Girls Don't Cry", "Walk Like a Man", "Rag Doll", "Oh, What A Night" "My Eyes Adored You" "Grease" "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" |

The Eighties is not a musical genre as listed on the official site.
Frankie Valli will be in Australia for the casting. Perhaps they'll have him sing on ITT!
I think that Grant said that there would be "music from the 80s" next week. Does that mean "written in the 80s" , "covered in the 80s" and that nothing else is allowed?
Frankie Valli had his greatest hits in the 60s but, for instance, "Can't keep my eyes off you" has been a hit in every decade since, in many countries.
I was just curious to see who people thought would be cast in The Jersey Boys. |

I know who I would love to see in it, he's rather short (as was Frankie) he's Italian (as was Frankie) and sings beautiful falsetto. He played Mark Cohen in RENT with a New York accent and got great reviews: You can listen to a little audio on Youtube.

He's just been cast in Wicked playing Boq, and he's in It Takes Two at the moment....Anthony Callea.
But I did hear a rumour that Human Nature were interested in it, but thats just a rumour.Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. |

| Sounds interesting, but tenors don't usually sing falsetto. That is the domain of baritones. |

Since we are going to hear songs of the Frankie Valli era I wonder how many of the mentors will be auditioning for The Jersey Boys in the next few months.
Looks like The Jersey Boys will be the next big musical after Wizard next year in Australia.
Who would you pick to play Frankie Valli. He has to be a tenor, who can sing falsetto, and with a Jersey accent. |
