musicman - we may not have better credentials than you but it seems we do have better hearing - no-one is saying that Russell and the others are perfect but check back on earlier shows and you will see/hear the three of them are sure better than Paul!

No matter how you look at Paul did a great and sang more lyrics then Russell thats my points.

I am being honest and fair. Kate did more singing then Russell what was singing? I found him hard to understand what he was singing and to me his at low level.

Even my mother agrees, who is a music teacher in singing. She said Paul did improved in his singing and was better then Russell.

Virgina sang more lyrics then Ian
Julia sang more lyrics then David

To be honest Amanda make mistake and feel him upset. She was harsh on him and attitude was wrong.

I have rock bands asking me for avdise but I sure as hell don't upset people like her, aleast I guide them. May I say I help a least 6 people which one guitarist is now in Ian Moss band.

Try beating that

Re:Amanda Pelman Reply to this message
Music man....Paul can't sing. Why would Amanda give him a better score?? The show isn't judged on who gave it their best shot, its' based on alot of things related to performing a song!! Is that such an odd concept? Virginia, Julia and Russell all have great voices...Paul does not...So Amanda was harsh, you don't know what he's like backstage, maybe he is egotistical...that's her opinion, her call, she can say what she wants, if she's judging on vocal and theatrical performance then Paul deserved a low score. Russell, who u hate so much, sang a difficult song, fell off only a few times WHICH amanda pointed out to him. She is honest. She honeslty believes Russell, Julia and Virginia can sing and that Paul can't...unfortunately I agree!

Re:Amanda Pelman Reply to this message
I can sing all of the lyrics of the Rose, I sound bl**dy awful though, so does that mean that I should win the comp.if I was in it??????
Russell has been fantastic from day 1 and can sing heaps better than Paul (just look at his scores...he's always in the top 3) Paul did improve and good on him for that , but all of the ones left in the top 3 deserve to be there and it would of been an injustice if Paul was. Paul's marks , even when he had improved where still nowhere near the other 3 singers.

That is so true. Paul should be proud of himself. He did a great job in singing, better then Russell.

I agree with your comments. Yes Julia did a great job on the ROSE aleast she sang all the words.

I still say Paul sang more in lyrics. He should of got more points. Amanda gave 6 points to him

I hope Russell goes next week his is annoying.

In my books its between Virgina and Julia.

I agree that amanda pellman should be voted off because she does'nt give the contestants the score she gives it to cate, she has done this ever since cate joined it takes two.Her partners have not been the best singers yet amanda has always voted high for them this is not fair to the other contestants that are a lot better

Re:Amanda Pelman Reply to this message
"But she just seemed to be really hostile about him. I felt sorry for him because it's obvious, whether you like Paul or not, that he's put in a lot of work to get his performance and vocals better and it's also clear he has very little faith in his own abilities. But that's no wonder when he's had so much negativity around him."
************************* *

I agree with you about the hostility - I've also felt that it's been around a while...I wonder what the deal is? But you're right - she SHOULD have a more professional attitude...it's been quite disgraceful at times, particularly of late. Paul's done really well (I feel anyway) to get as far as he did, and should be extremely proud of his efforts. It's a shame that the likes of Amanda are trying to take that away from him...:)

Re:Amanda Pelman Reply to this message
symantha - I cant recall her exact words but something very dismissive like "Yeah well, I think we should all get over being "amazed" at your improvement now. Fact is, you're 3 weeks behind everybody else".

That was it really. I thought he'd done enough to at least get a "great to see you're continuing to improve, but maybe not enough for this stage of the show" or even "yeah that was okay. Keep going" or whatever. But she just seemed to be really hostile about him. Maybe they've had words behind the scene or something - but Amanda should still be more professional in her attitude IMHO.

I felt sorry for him because it's obvious, whether you like Paul or not, that he's put in a lot of work to get his performance and vocals better and it's also clear he has very little faith in his own abilities. But that's no wonder when he's had so much negativity around him.

If it's a contest about who sang the most solo lyrics last night, then I think Julia won hands down with 'The Rose', but of course, that's not what the show is about at all, thank goodness.

Re:Amanda Pelman Reply to this message
Why are you stuck on who sang more lyrics this week?? It doesn't matter! Paul sang ok for once not brilliant and certainly not better than russell. If Paul had attempted the song Russell did he would have been kicked off half way through. No way could he have done it! Russell had heaps to do still regardless of how many lyrics Kate sang! And like i said there have been MANY occasions when Russell has sung more than Kate, that has actually been their thing is Kate as a backup for most of it!

Im not trying to make you change your mind i just think that if you've gonna write comments about what you think i can do the same! You started some of these discussions so you must have expected ppl to respond. Russell's voice is ten times better than Paul's, you should be able to recognise that!

and thanks for th last part..?? The producers thougth she should be on there so she is! Im sure she's done more than is contained in the Kylie book, plus its a TV SHOW! so they have to have someone on there who'l be a cow and clash with other judges...it's like a rule!

I don't agree with your comments. Amanda wasn't honest with Paul, he sang a lot lyrics more then Russell.

They is no way you are going make change my mind. Who wants to listen Russell sing with that annoying voice, I don't.

I seem Marina Prior and Ross Wilson perform live.

James Valentine was member of The Models and Absent Friends. He works on Foxtel movie reviews.

Ian 'Molly' Meldrum discovered Kylie Minogue not Amanda Pelman. Meldrum signed her up with Mushroom on Michael Gudinski label in 1987 not 1986. She appeared on Johnny Young Talent show in 1980's long before that.

Read Kylie Minogue official book and they is no refers to Amanda only gives to Ian 'Molly' Meldrum and Michael Gudinski only.

I don't recall dances on Countdown unlest she referring to UK music show or Solid Gold.

Re:Amanda Pelman Reply to this message
I think that Amanda has a soft spot for Russell, I think she dislikes Paul for lacking the qualities she likes in Russell. Little man on the end there doesnt go much on Russell so Russ has to deal with that, I think Amanda is honest and that's why ppl don't like her! That said, she irritates me alot of the time, but each judge is there to make sure that there is background from different musical areas, Marina Prior will say nice things about Paul and be encouraging but her scores are usually pretty close to Amanda!

And of course Kate will steal the show at times! all the pros will do it! they ooze confidence so if they're singing with someone who is struggling ie Russell with the swing song (which was great considering the absolute difficulty!) or Paul almost every week, the professional who is calm, confident and practised with live audiences and stagecraft will stand out! that's why its hard not to watch Julia, she has stage definate stage presence.

I had problem understanding Russell in singing. Kate stoil the show, I didn't hear him sing one word and yet Amanda gave him a point. She needs to more honest.

Paul sang all the words perfect and very clear. I understand him in singing.

Re:Amanda Pelman Reply to this message
It was a good solid performance from Paul, both vocally and in his improving stage presence.

But it wasn't really THAT good to get a 9. And while I'd like to have seen him given the chance to develop more faith in himself and confidence on stage, I think it was fair that he was the one to leave this week.

But I do agree there's something wrong wth Amandas attitude toward Paul - it's very hostile and almost .... petulant is the word. The prissy expression she had on her face last night when she ripped into him (again) and her refusal to say anything positive about him is very odd. I noticed even last week she was forced to acknowledge his improvement (coz it was blindingly obvious) but she still managed a put down - "You checked your ego at the door and see what happened" is NOT a compliment by any stretch.

Re:Amanda Pelman Reply to this message
The judges take into account the difficulty of the song (same as in judging springboard diving).

Paul did a simple standing dive off a low diving board, (and even the Jade sang every second line of the song).

Russell did a triple backward somersault with pike off the high board. He was told his faults and then given a score suitable for the extent to which he achieved what he attempted.

Some people would give Paul 10 if he sang "Baa, baa, Black Sheep". and managed to keep in tune 90% of the time.

Re:Amanda Pelman Reply to this message
I have to disagree. Paul did not deserve a 9. A 9 is given for a near perfect performance, and regardless of how likable Paul is, it wasn't a near perfect performance.
