Sylar's original ability that was inherited form his dad is intuitive aptitude which allows him to understand any complex system without training, knowing that Chandra Suresh abilities said abilities had something to do with the brain Sylar studied his victims brains and copy their ability rather than absorbing it.
Before KINDRED in season 2 Sylar had 8 abilities not including his own they included telekinesis, Trevor's ability to shatter things, freezing, enhanced memory, melting, enhanced hearing, precognition and induced radioactivity.
After being affected by the Shanti virus Sylar's abilities were gone except for telekinesis and intuitive aptitude. Since then Sylar acquired nine new abilites, they include; rapid cellular regeneration, alchemy, clarisentience, sound manipulation, electric manipulation, lie detection, imprinting, shape shifting and Tom's ability to break down objects.
hope this helped |

Technically the season we are watching now is still season three.
In america villains and fugitives is one season. Fugitives is volume 4 not season 4. |

because he can actully take powers with out killing them, like Peters original power.
But Sylar has the urge to kill people, to gain power- thats why he kills |

that power, that you call 'thoughtology', isnt called that... its called 'imprinting'. he's able to project his signatures, handwriting, etc onto papers.
And with the whole empathy thing... the reason sylar doesnt use it, is because he doesnt HAVE empathic mimicry. lol. in that scene with elle, sylar had to empathically 'connect' with elle, to understand her feelings, to understand where she was coming from and stuff like that. that was why he obtained that power by that way.
Peter's powers allows him to just think of the person and how they made him feel in order to obtain the powers. the reason sylar doesnt use this 'empathic' connection with every single person with abilities is because of two things.
1- Sylar has to actually connect empathically with them. and that means understanding their pain and whatever else. the only way sylar could do that with elle was because she had went through so much trauma already, sylar could relate. if he met every single stranger, he would have to connect with them every single time, and that would be a waste of time, especially for him.
2. secondly, when sylar connected with elle, he didnt know how to properly use her power. he was inexperienced. when he cuts people's brains open and observes them, he has a greater understanding of how the powers work, and he can use them like an expert, unlike their predecessor.
With sylars father... Sylar would have to connect with him, but since sylar already hated him so much, there probably wouldnt have been any way to do that properly.
Graphic novels are found at the heroes wiki site- heroeswiki.com
just search graphic novels and you'll find them. they've been out since when heroes first started. |

True that, but why does he revert to killing and never just use mimicry?
Also why did sylar not take his fathers powers. I know he wanted him to suffer, but couldn't he take his powers without killing?
Also. This might seem dumb. But where can you get the graphic novels? Ive only ever watched the show. |

In answer to the empathic mimicry problem:::
In "It's Coming", Sylar learns how to gain abilities without removing a person's brain, obtaining Elle Bishop's power of electric manipulation by empathizing with her and convincing her to let go of her anger. This empathy allowed him to retain the use of Brian Davis' telekinesis after being cured of the virus, due to the guilt he felt over his death. Arthur explains that Sylar possessed this ability all along. |

Joe Macon
Joe Macon appears in the graphic novel Out of Town...On Business as an insurance agent for Steele Family Safe Insurance. Possessing the ability of thoughtography, he was able to project his handwriting onto surfaces, filling out business forms instantaneously. Sylar visits the insurance company after hours in search of information concerning the location of his adoptive father, Martin Gray. When Macon refuses to give Sylar the information, Sylar kills him and takes his ability. Noah Bennet later discovers the body in Macon's office after receiving reports of strange, unexplained murders. WIKIPEDIA :) |

just like to add that sylar doesnt have a power called 'thoughtology'.... unless its something different you called it.
secondly, sylar also has the power of imprinting. this is shown in the graphic novels. |

cameronrich@rocketmail.co m, you are half right with his abilities.
He has all of his abilites from the alchemic transmutation. He also has his telekinesis. HOWEVER. his power of intuitive aptitude should NOT be confused/related/mixed with peter's ability of empathic mimicry... because thats not what it is.
And what's thoughtology??? Lol. |

Thats a hard question.
Im not really sure TBH.
In the future you see him use radioactive ability. Although that future no longer exists. I think if he still did have all his abilities he would have used them more. Maya's ability might be usefull. |
