| Since everyone is else is having an opinion here, i may as well say mine. IMO,I dont nessecerly agree with the whole abortion thing. I mean if girls go out,have sex,and are too lazy and STUPID to have used protection or whatever,find out they are pregnant,then decide, "oh im going to have an abortion,it will all be good..blah blah blah." i dont agree with that. I think that if you're mature enough to have sex, you're mature enough to deal with whatever happens afterwards. I dont agree with abortions for stupid little things because the person was too stupid and selfish to think about what could happen. I dont believe and dont like that fact that some girls seem to use it as a form or contraception. In saying that though, i completely support and agree with decisions to have an abortion, if something happens which is out of the persons control.Like Rape.Im not going to judge or disapprove of someone if they have an abortion if they fall pregnant from it.Its not the vicitms fault, they didnt ASK to be raped, to fall pregnant, whatever. Marthas situation would be horrible to be in, and even though i really dont like her either, i do feel sorry for her.I think that people saying she should NOT have an abortion is pretty stupid IMO, because that is basically saying that Martha should die,to save a foetus, not a baby. And im also not saying even that would be easy. Even though i dont like Jack much either, as i think he said in one episode,They can try for another child somewhere later down the track. He cant get another Martha. I know that sounds harsh and selfish or whatever, but think about it. Its not a baby yet. I mean thats only me, im not in her position,and if i was, i probably wouldnt be thinking rationally either, but im just saying what I think, since everyone else has =) |

A women has a right to keep or to terminate. If you were going to go down the route of what people don't ask for then what about women who get pregnant as a result of rape, or women in Martha's situation. Do you think they ASK to be raped, or ASK to get cancer? A women's life has priority over a foetus unless she decides otherwise. |

| In an idealworld, there would never be a need for anyone to have an abortion, but we dont live in an ideal world. We live in a complex world full of complex [ppeople and situations. Women who do decide on an abortion decide for varying reasons and whether or not they are right or wrong, I dont know. It depends on so many variables. I dont think a person should be judged for it though. IMO, there are enough unwanted, abused and neglected children in this world already... maybe the anti-abortionists should be putting their energies into libertaing these children and protecting them, rather than judging total strangers. |

| Mmm I forgot to add something on to the end of that and that 'anti abortionaists THAT JUST PEOPLE who have abortions or believe in them' My mistake for wording it poorly. | <Marthas abortion when she was with Ash (it was Ash wasnt it) was due to carelessness ....> I remember her specifically telling Jack that they were extremely careful and that she couldn't understand how it happened and he said something about mistakes happening. While I personally think she should abort this one given the tremendous risks to her heatlh (my personal opinion) I don't disagree with the last one she had either. What I disagree with was her lack of thought into the issue. She wasn't even a position to help herself after what happened with Ash (a lot of it self inflicted though) to the point that she felt so worthless she had her entire downward spiral and pole dancing and what not. There is a certain part of that abortion that was selfish, but that's because it HAD to be, it was about HER. If she couldn't takecare of herself how was she going to take care of a baby? ---- But back to the actual topic, I think it's such a heartbreaking decision to be in either way. There are no cerntainties anyway you look at it and all possible situations are going to have big effects and really sad consequences. I feel those women in this situation. |

| Abortion IS part of this topic, so we should be free to discuss it. It is a personal choice and no-one should say it is right or wrong. This is what pro choice is. it's yes to the choice that every woman should have. Woman have all sortes of reasons for a terminatation. And unfortunately this topic is one of them. | I agree that pregnant women with cancer should be the issue. But I find it slightly hipercritical that you're calling abortion a personal issue NOW and saying that no one has a right to judge anyone on that issue NOW when I've previously seen a hell of a lot of you make extremely judgemental comments about women having abortions (and some of them are in this thread!)That was the only reason I made the comment I did. | Anti abortionists drive me INSANE. Abortion is a women's choice. If she feels she is in no position to take care of a child or to offer it the kind of life all kids deserve than abortion is an option. It is HER option. And she shouldn't give two hoots about what anyone says because it's absolutely none of their business. Adopting the child out might sound like the solution but it abandoning your child. If you bring children into the world you should take care of them. If you can't then don't have them. Getting pregnant is not always as simple as "she had sex she should live with the consequences" Mistakes happen, things don't always work, there is room for error. There are early stages within the creation process of any living thing, until 22 weeks it's not recognised by law and until 22 weeks you don't have to consider it as having rights. It is not a baby- it could develop if you choose to keep it but choice is completely up to you. Having said that I don't think abortion should be taken lightly and I don't think it should be something you should ever do unless absolutely necessary. It's not a quick fix solution. Regarding Martha and the pregnancy situation, what a stupid thing to say that her terminating the pregnancy is wrong. I can't possibly comprehend how fighting for your life could be wrong. |

| This is a forum and messages are posted in general open to the forum and not directed at anyone personally. A single message can hold responses to many messages. If people feel like that they fall into that category then that is their problem, and should probably have a good hard look at themselves. |

| No worries. Like I said I understand you got a bit ruffled by my opinion. No worries again..if you think I'm wrong. But my argument is that we don't know if its going to be futile. No one knows how long Martha has to live...she might actually survive the pregnancy term. Her body might respond differently to the cancer considering having cancer during a pregnancy term is rare. Medicine is ever evolving and doctors learn based on research and past experiences. If the doctors claim its the aggressive form and needs immediate attention (medical obligation) we don't know how far it has spread already. Can they guarantee that chemo will save her? We don't know how her body might respond. Everyone responds differently. Killing the baby does not guarantee Martha will get well. The only thing for sure in this situation is that if she has the abortion, a life is lost. In my opinion its safer to make decisions based on what one knows for sure rather than what might be. Life is mysterious and every body is different. Ok and now for the show! |
