| ooh thanks for clearing that up on my behalf sharks. nav_sop, i agree that people can go too far with trying to be politically correct, but where the feelings of a huge chunk of the population are involved, it's worth making the effort wouldn't you think? it's not even that much of an effort at that! it's essentially the same issue as using the N-word. i don't care enough about using that word to express myself to offend and hurt so many others. back on point, as long as the term "gay" is meant as a bad thing and a term to ridicule others, how many people would find it easy to come out? |

| IMO = in my opinion. Believe it or not I was at school once too and 'spastic' and 'spazzo' were used like 'gay' is at your school. It always upset me when kids used these wrods, and I think its sad that kids use them to describe something without fully knowing what they mean and without considering the feelings of others. | There's a difference between being a stickler for political correctness to the point where a conversation is so full of rules to actually using words that offend people. Well informed people don't use 'gay' in reference to something bad just as you wouldn't use 'retard' or 'spastic' anymore. The fact that a lot of teenagers use it is quite worrying. I don't think em_loves.homeandaway meant any harm by using the word but now that she/he knows it's not appropriate I would assume they won't use it anymore. | I think we need to get over being super sensitive about what words are used. The word 'gay' is a very common term used by teenagers today.
