From wiki:
"The name Iceberg refers to the crisp, cold, clean characteristics of the leaves. ..."
Also, in the 1920's it was called Crusphead lettuce but was changed to iceberg becayuse it was shipped in loads of chipped ice.
Now, who said lettuce was boring!!! hehe |

oh.....
erm... what else do you have???
How about a greek salad
Something like
Lettuce (cubed or ripped up a bit)
Tomatoes cut into wedges
Chopped up celery
Cucumbers cut thinly lengthwise (lebanese are good)
A couple of sliced onions
Some feta (cubes or crumbled pieces)
Black olives (pitted is best)
Some oregano
Chuck it all in a bowl
Meanwhile
Marinate some crushed garlic cloves in some olive oil (for about an hour or so while you do the rest of it)
Add vinegar and or lemon juice
salt
Black pepper
.... and chuck it over and through the salad mix.
Apparently it's best to mix 2 to 1 oil to acid
So for ex - 1 cup of olive oil to half a cup of vinegar/lemon juice
Not my recipe really, cobbled together from others :)
You can vary it of course
Hope that helps |

| found a nice-sounding pea, lettuce, asparagus soup recipe. You fry onion, garlic, add chopped asparagus, then add your stock )I assume chicken or veg), then lettuce and frozen peas. Sounds rather nice. Oh, may have had bacon in it also |

Apparently you can make soup out of iceberg lettuce but I've never tried it.
I have used a type of butter lettuce in stir fry dishes but I'm not sure that would work with iceberg. The lettuce I use has a heavier texture than iceberg |
