Re:Toby Reply to this message
I actually think none of them deserve to win,I think the judges got it wrong from the start. They are good but nothing like the other years, I find myself changing channels all the time, none of them keep me watching & listening.
I am sorry but I don't think any of them will make it big.

Re:Toby Reply to this message
Stan's pout really annoys me. It looks like he's kissing the air.
His lower register is a bit below average.

Re:Toby Reply to this message
I turned on Idol right where they finished the video of Toby's highlights. I only saw it yesterday on tv that he decided to leave. I was like 'Wow..'
I agree with some of you, where you say he'd make it to the final if he were still there. I think the older generation like him because of his age, and more so, his voice and possibly some of the songs he's sung. Though, he doesn't appeal too much to the younger audience because of his voice and possibly even age imo.
Honestly though, I think Nathan and Stan/Hayley in the final. James won't be there; his voice is good, but his performances haven't that much better... I really didn't like how he performed Daughters by John Mayer. And he hasn't really been that popular in the last few weeks.

I really hope Stan is there though, in the final, I really love his voice. (And I ain't a Kiwi!) :)

He's a lovely man but he won't make them the money that they want and in the end that's all it's about.

Re:Toby Reply to this message
Wouldn't buy Toby's CD, doesn't do a thing for me, never enjoy his singing, can't believe he is still there.
Don't care if he is a plumber, sparky, stripper or whatever.

Re:Toby Reply to this message
sharnzey - I think that James will go next week. He's been in the bottom 3 more than the other contestants and while his performances were good last night, they weren't brilliant. Although you never know, there could be a shock elimination (eg Ricki-Lee).

Re:Toby Reply to this message
Agree with that 'nowhere around here'. Voting is very much done with loyalty in mind. As you say 'Stan' being voted by ex-pat kiwis (and if you look at NZ messageboards their opinion is that the only reason he will not win is cos he is a kiwi and us Aussies would 'not let him win' - nothing to do with him struggling and there being better singers/entertainers).

As for Toby well yeah he just has something 'nice' and I think his voice is good enough to still be there.

My picks to go next: Stan next week, James following, then Toby and Nathan and Haley to fight it out at the Opera House. These are the two that stand out and I think will really go on and succeed.

Re:Toby Reply to this message
I think Nathan actually has the best voice, he's shown versatility, has done big musical pieces, pop (although last night was the first night he was off pitch) and scat in the big band show.
I thought Toby was the weakest last night, all the other contestants had at least one really great song.
Loyalties do play a part in the votes. Usually someone from Queensland leaves the week when daylight savings is introduced and I know Kiwis who vote for Stan because he is also a Kiwi, so it isn't just 'sour grapes'.

Re:Toby Reply to this message
You couldn't be more wrong. He has the best voice in the competition and I have NO doubt at all that he will be at the Opera House. Thats a given. Its just a matter of who will be with him. He has the ability to take this thing out. Saying he is only getting the SA vote (I'm in Qld) is like saying Stan is still in because of the Kiwi vote, or Kate stayed because of the Lesbian vote. Its just sour grapes, excuses and sheer immaturity. He is there, because he is the BEST of the best, and the very fact that he has NEVER been in the bottom 3 - not ONCE, proves this. In fact, I understand that he is the ONLY ONE LEFT, who has never been in the bottom 3. that says it all. The proof itself is that. And I am so sick of the 'teacher' jibes. Get over your issues with teachers. It is so petty and immature. Deal with the fact that he very well could take this thing out.

Re:Toby Reply to this message
I remember reading somewhere that he was getting votes because he is the only one from SA - not sure how true this is??

His vibrato is so annoying. I remember a few seasons ago, the judges were always making comments to Matt Corby about his vibrato, saying he shouldn't use it so much and change it. Toby's is much worse.
