| I don't really watch anymore, not after how they manipulated Kim Cooper's video package with James Morrison, and after the comment JD made. I wasn't a fan of Kims, but I felt for her as its obvious by the way the producers MANIPULATED the package and JD's comment, that they wanted her gone. Unfortunately too many sheep vote according to the judges. The show is so heavily manipulated that I have become so disilusioned. |

"wouldn't miss it for quits."
The saying is; wouldn't miss it for QUIDS. Quid = Aussie slang for money. So, wouldn't miss it for a some of money. |

| I don't know what all the fuss is about. I have been watching Aust Idol since day one and I still enjoy it every week and wouldn't miss it for quits. As far as someone saying that the talent this year is the worst ever, that is just rubbish. *** . I think this year we have some of the most talented singers yet. As for someone saying that Jay Dee is a boring judge, I don't honestly know what you expect him to do. He is a judge and I believe he gives honest remarks on all the contestents and he doesn't shoot them down in flames if they don't have a great night. Come on he isn't supposed to be the entertainment, that is what the idols are there for, give the guy a go, he is only new to tv. I am big music fan. If you don't watch it then I think you are missing out big time. Cheers. |

| I live in Melbourne and didn't even realise that idol was on again this year until I was watching the footy and suddenly an ad for it came on...thats how pathetic the show has become...I think Shannon Noll has been the only SOMEWHAT REAL success story from the show...guy sebastian is simply a failure, and he's from Adelaide if I remember rightly..I used to live there but well away from the town itself!!! I also think that if the ratings continue to plumet like they have done since the start of this series then its destined for an axing...channel 10 lost viewers when it lost the supercars to 7, but now the supercar audience has dwindled to, well to some extent cause of 7's *** broadcasting of it...the sport will never be the same again and channel 10 won't be better than what they are now til they axe the rubbish like idol that is on there now, and to whoever said the majority of voters are teen girls I think your right..they think everything is 'GREAT'or 'HOT' when really its nothing but a boring heap of s**t that is well past its useby date. |

I really don't know where you people get the idea that Idol is expensive to produce... they pay the contestants NOTHING, the audience get NOTHING and they get a couple of hours television for a very low cost really...
The crew is no larger than any other live audience show. It would cost you more per broadcast hour to produce "Good News Week".. (at least they have pyrotechnics..) even the nightly news would cost more...
A large part of the contestants' future earnings are returned to the producers through the extraordinarily onerous contracts they must sign to enter in the first place; which might explain why the cream of Australia's music talent wouldn't touch it and nobody with anything better to do when its showing would bother to watch it...
That is why we have so much of this reality TV... it is as cheap as chips to produce.. It is rating badly because if everyone is like me, they are so over the "vote one of the contestants off every week" format... (yawn!) which combined with Idol's unique lack of transparency on their voting "system" has kept my TV an idol-free zone this year. I suspect its not the only one!! |

I wouldn't be surprised if it bites the bullet.
Ten is running on the smell of an oily rag at the moment and it's sponsors won't tolerate an expensive program that's not getting the ratings for too long. |

| Yeah...with the money it costs ten to make Oz Idol...they could buy the rights to air American Idol.. yeah it's still idol and the same format etc ...but at least American Idol actually produces artists who we hear on the radio etc and who actually sell records |

I hope it's the last one. This year is by far the worst top 12. The show's just getting very stale and old, it needs to be axed.
Everyone knows by now the votes are dominated by adolescent girls... |

A mixture of poor talent, a tiering format and the addition of a bland judge reflect the mess Idol has become, and the poor ratings it is recieving.
The move to 6.30 has not helped it either, contrasting with Dancing with the Stars which saw a ratings resurgance this year when moving to the earlier timeslot.
If it doesn't increase substantially in coming weeks, I'd have to agree with you tomtimten. |

as you are probably aware idol is doing terribly in the ratings. last week it rated lower than big brother's whole 8 years ever did on a sunday. but it was up against the DWTS finale so they had an excuse. but this week it barley went up at all. and they do not have an excuse. The competition is actually quite weak atm. and it will only get worse after daylight savings starts and less people watch TV on Sundays. it would be hard for ch10 to find a reason for it to continue in 2010.
Idol is a very expensive show to produce. I am pretty sure it will be it's last year. what do others think? |
