Lemme see, from memory, should look it up! 18 years, scholarship rookie from ACT. Really exciting prospect signed at the end of 2006 I think!? 189 cm, 80 kgs!!?? LOL, lot's of supposition. Elevated to replace Brown, bad loss that!! Also out this week is Beau Waters, MacNamara's band (both "hammies") and Armstrong listed as emergency. Will Schofield & Jayme Graham, and possibly Houlihan, should check, can't be buggered, called it that Lynch might have a trot in the Ruck support role last round,(Rnd 7, not the "Circus!") can't say how he went, no TV off Labuan! Stats were depressing.
I am expecting although patchy, form will improve next few weeks and into the years ahead. Nick "Natty" Natanui needs a home at the Eagle's Nest!

Lucky Ryan Davis might get his first game this weekend, he's apparently been playing pretty well for Swan Districts, let's hope if he gets a start, that it's memorable for all the right reasons

What can Suma do? Play more youngsters?

I heard today that a rookie is being elevated and travelling to the game with the kangas and will play.

Re:Class of 2008 Reply to this message
I don't think that West Coast should be entering a period of poor performances though, at least not yet. We need to put things in perspective and realise that we've got some good [to] excellent players in addition to the new lads coming through. It's ok to play at an average level or to struggle after 'the year that was' (2007), but there are no excuses for getting thumped each week, none at all. We've been s***house to this point and it's no use playing it down. I expect, at the very least, some of the boys to lift this weekend against North Melbourne.

Also, I'm not sure if I'm the only one here who thinks this, but I keep wondering what Sumich has done this year that is of any real value to the midfield ...

I think you may be correct in saying West coast eagles are entering a period of poor performances. Richmond has had it, Carlton are coming out of it (thank goodness), Bulldogs have been there and now it seems its the eagles turn to have the doldrums.

Re:Class of 2008 Reply to this message
Was it to confuse everybody or because they couldn't read or count!? LOL, just kidding. Was tougher on the players then, no FT pro's, except available after games, no interchange, blood rule, no Video evidence!
Given West Coast's current woes, in perspective with the 50's, 60's & into the 70's, surgery and recuperative therapies have come a long way. How much of it is a player being hypersensitive about a career threatening injury as opposed to a little cork or inflammation, arthritus. Is it a pain barrier issue!? If the statements made about the use of painkillers to keep some players on the Park are to be believed, there might be a psychological barrier to overcome.
The mercenary nature of pro football makes one question the player's commitment to the club and the guernsey, self respect and their team when the going gets tough. Is West Coast where Richmond are scrambling out of? Is Worsfold being overly optimistic thinking a rennaisence is nigh!?
Perhaps the real problem is that Sumich, as coach of the midfield, has an enhanced rep. from the luxury of the cattle he rode? As for the Forwards, well, enough has already been said, but, "losing" Brad Smith was a disaster!

The 58` grand final was when the woods changed numbers from the ones printed in the newspapers, just to confuse everybody.
However there were two reports from that game, Barrassi for striking Weidaman and Harrison for charging Barrassi.

my previous statement of no reports was incorrect, sorry, one must state facts correctly else we lead the younger astray.

That will have been a reaction to the bath the big "Weed" gave Barrassi in the 1958 GF, Weidemann stepped up as Capt. when Frank Tuck was unavailable. He totally dominated and intimidated the younger Ron Barrassi, an emerging superstar and lead Collingwood to an unexpected 3 goal win. Made it into Collingwoods team of the twentieth century, quite a feat as no doubt we all know what a bunch of stars they are at Collingwood, LOL. I missed most of this footy, just read about it. Too young and elsewhere at the time. He moved to Albury in '64 after some "colourful" events in Melbourne that also made the papers.

I can remember Murray weidaman and ron barrassi coming to terms with each other in a SF at MCG. They both got into it so heavy that no body was game enough to go in and break it up. what a blue that was, eventually they got sick of bashing each other and went back to playing footy.

No reports, except in th epapers.

Re:Class of 2008 Reply to this message
Yep, remember Nolan, around the same time as Keka from the O&M, Myrtleford I think, will have to check up on that. That brute Wiedemann was huge when he Capt Coached Albury. He and Micky Bone tangled after they played for Collingwood in the O&M. Mick Bone I reckon pound for pound was about the most courageous player I saw live regularly, like Skilts, but smaller. Bone Capt. Coached Wodonga. 60's. Come to think of it Big Nick was huge too.
Dougie Wade is still my favourite FF of all time, everybody hated him!
Given the state of events this year, the Eagles could use a bit of old fashioned grunt, just don't think many of them could keep up as they were then, they never had the luxury of being full time Pro's, except for Warwick of course, he sold his tight shorts, but that was in Sydney, played for Oakley I think in Melb. Better check facts B4 I run off too much, you'll ping me again, LOL

Wanton, Barry round switched to the "Angles" in `76 as noted however Neil "whale"Roberts was with south melbourne in `75 having switched from richmond where he was playing in `73, and then there was big mick nolan, The galloping gasometer, who debut in `73 with n/melb.
we dont seem to have nicknames in this modern era, what a pity.

Re:Class of 2008 Reply to this message
Whoops, good catch, Jack Dyer, same vintage as Lou Richards, Merrett & Co. Round played for Footascray in 1969, crossed to South Melbourne in '76. He and Bernie Quinlan shared the Charley in '81. Lead Sth Melb. (Capt) to Sydney in 82. Skilts played in the SF against Saints in 1970, retired in '71, so Whale was still at Footscray at that time! So he did trot around with the then Capt. of the Bloods, but as opposition!
Nappies, LMAO, instead of the colostomy bag, PMSL, again!

Big Barry may have trotted round with capt blood , but it wasn`t in a game, Capt Blood retired in 1949, so the whale was probably stillin nappies, spealing of which.

LMAO, I think she was!? Maybe it was someone else!? Nice to see you mate, I was beginning to feel like Eartha Kitt alongside Teena Turner singing Nutbush! Hmmm now theres a thought! LOL, leave it alone.
Yep Skilts often played with multiple injuries, many received on the day, achieved all that roving to mostly losing rucks. Did Barry Round trot around with Capt.Blood, seem to remember he might have, possibly not, most pre 70's is a blur these days, amazing how you remembers some girls perfumes tho' PMSL, whoops, colostomy bags full again!

The whale hasn`t been around for a while wanton but I take your point on players with no safety for themselves when it came to getting the pill. As for age, lets say I`m on speaking terms with centrlink.
Sure hope that nurse is pretty.

Re:Class of 2008 Reply to this message
Jonah, I saw Bobby Skilton play, albeit mostly in B&W those days. A few "live" at the ground, lived in the Country. He was a rover so KO is probably talking more in terms of the permanent small ( or seagull to some, ;-)). In fairness, Feral Farmer was before Phil Mat. at AFL level, with Melbourne. Played more as a Fwd Flanker there.
Skilts was known to play, and miss, many games through injury being thoroughly fearless, 3 Brownlows, "V" Rep, 9 times BF at Sth Melbourne, ( not the Sydney Cygnets ), superbly skilled, kicked both feet, not that common then and, towards the end of his career when I watched.
Shimma on the wing at Nth, Keith Greig, Robbie Flower and many more, all differently blessed but with that dogged determination to get the pill. Bartlett was cunning, like Peter Hudson, enjoyed a "love" affair with Umps until he forced a rule "redefinition" over possesion.
Anyhow, gotta get m'teeth outa the Steradent b4 I forget how to read my name on the glass, that cute lil nurse might be back soon! How old are you Jonah? Does the whale still call around for a pat, LMAO

kiwi, obviously you have never seen bob skilton play, he was a chaser of note.
kevin bartlett was one of the best goal sneaks you have ever seen. He was always at the bottom of packs and had one of the quickest reflex`s you could wish for.
Phil didn`t start it although he might have sharpened it up a bit.

Re:Class of 2008 Reply to this message
I agree with wanton on this one. Phil provided great defensive pressure up forward for us. I think he "invented" the role of the quick small forward chasing down opponents. He was vey good at it and did it often.
