Wirra on notice to hold his position - not compromised by a leadership position.
Wirra is a leader, no position required, it a plus. |

Not so much surprising as interesting. New broom in Canberra, new Broom in the West, Coast that is, LOL.
Andrew is unlucky for a number of reasons although he has missed a bit of Footy at times through injury. Leadership is an interesting issue and players like he will provide leadership by example in a game anyhow. There is an eye on the future and giving rising players responsibility can accelerate maturity. Resolving issues with the "biffers" is not necessarily wise for a "leader" but, sometimes, in self defence, there is little option. "Managing situations is a skill. Mildly surprised about the omission of Adam Hunter however, didn't think he put a foot wrong, but, might not want the gig anyhow, again, he shows plenty on the Park.
Those selected are very much the future "spine" at the Club, so, as you say, pretty good group really.
Of more concern is Masten's injury situation! Osteitis Pubis or such, makes the eyes water. Used to get the odd strain myself many moons ago, overstretching and kicking too early pre-season. Annoying affliction! Thought it a Victorian problem mostly, they need to leave it alone occassionally! ROFLMAO |

Only surprise I see coming out of this announcement is that David Wirrpanda didn't get a role in the leadership group.
He's one of the best role models in sport today imo & I wonder how he was overlooked by the Egos players. |

cont....
draft. He played 24 games, led the team for disposals and was rookie of the year. Hansen, 24, won the 2007 Chris Mainwaring Medal as best clubman and Selwood, 23, was third best and fairest.
Worsfold said the match committee had to take a new direction after the team's repeated off-field problems.
"What we've done this year is said, 'OK things haven't been going that well. We're in the best position now to make pretty drastic changes'. What we've done is said, 'Why weren't things working as well as they could have been and how can we have a better structure?'
"We've spent a lot of time working on this, developing it and talking to a lot of different people that are well-versed in leadership structures. We believe this is part of an action plan for change."
Cox said the new leaders were committed to ending the club's off-field issues. "All players that are on the list now realise the ramifications if there is another misdemeanour. The leadership group will be enforcing that and living the values that are put in place," Cox said. |

WEST Coast's players have dumped vice-captain Andrew Embley from their leadership team a year after he won the Norm Smith Medal.
The Eagles yesterday announced their six-man leadership team after every player and coach ranked the squad across nine leadership criteria.
Ruckman Dean Cox and midfielder Tyson Stenglein have been appointed vice-captains to captain Darren Glass for 2008 while Ashley Hansen, Adam Selwood and Matt Priddis form the rest of the leadership group.
Despite being a vice-captain since 2004, Embley missed the cut. One of the faces of the West Coast's website, Embley endured a controversial season.
He came to blows with defender Daniel Chick after the club suspended former captain Ben Cousins in March and then fought with All-Australian midfielder Daniel Kerr in October.
Coach John Worsfold said Embley was disappointed by the omission. "He'd like to still be in the leadership group," Worsfold said. "But he's aware of why and I'll go through with him the areas in the votes where he was lower in our criteria that he could be higher.
"He possesses certain leadership qualities that we may not have included in the ones that we got the players to vote on.
"The nine criteria we've chosen aren't the be-all and end-all of leadership, but Andrew, in the nine we chose, didn't rate in the top five players.
"The six leaders will each be in charge of smaller groups of players who they will meet with throughout the season. They will then take issues raised in those meetings to the senior leadership team."
Mark Seaby, Matt Rosa, Shannon Hurn, Brett Jones, Beau Waters and Mark LeCras have been appointed as junior leaders.
It represented a major changing of the guard after the departures of Cousins and Chris Judd.
Controversial midfielders Kerr and Chad Fletcher were overlooked along with experienced trio David Wirrpanda, Michael Braun and Adam Hunter.
Priddis, 22, only established himself as an AFL player in 2007 after repeatedly being overlooked at the ... |
