After watching the V8s go around in Australia I cant wait for Feb and race 1 of the Nascar serise of 08.
Then we will see proper racing where you dont give way to another car just because its the same manufacturer as your own.
The way the V8s are going you will end up with just a Ford team and a Holden team. The Holden teams are driving as a unit now,so Ford should follow suit.
Watching Ambrose live in races 3 and 4 in the US will make up for the rubbish we get here at home.

Marcos signed up for a guaranteed 12 races next year in the Nascar Sprint Cup with the option to do more races as well.Driving the #21 car for Wood Bros starting Jun 21 at Infineon raceway road circuit and continuing with the #59 car in the Busch Cup. A busy 2008 for Marco...go Tassie go!!!!!

Thats what people have to understand.Theres 6
different tracks in NASCAR and when you run every week you dont have time to change the car.To win you need half a dozen cars with differing setups.
1.Road Circuits..(typical tracks here in Aus)
2.Big Banked Ovals...(Talledaga,where theres a 4 storey bank thats hard to stand on)
3.Big Flat Ovals..(A hard track where speed can throw you into a wall)
4 Small Banked Ovals..(1-1.5 mile with high banks around 18`
5.Small Flat Ovals...(1-1.5 mile tracks that have slippery tight corners and a half squirt straight)
6.The Restictor plate races...A restrictor is placed in all cars where every car can do the same speed. You can only pass with drafting and passing skills.

Re:AMBROSE a true blue FORD champ Reply to this message
Ambrose had to baby the car in too many races this year, poor suspension set-ups cost him nearly every week.
It was only the road races that MA had imput into the chassis and susp bias.In those races the car was set like a Falcon with Marcos knowing what it took to win road circuits.
There lies the problem...The team has the funds to run 5 different chassis type cars, meaning UNLIMITED FUNDS.
WHY IS IT WHEN MA SET UP A CAR IT WAS COMPETITIVE AND FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON HIS TEAM COULDNT GET IT RIGHT?????
More experienced engineers would help.

mmm, but bear in mind that not all those Cup guys behind him raced in every race like Marcos did....nor did a couple in front of him for that matter, lol

I thought he might have won RotY when it got announced that Montyoa wasn't going to run a full Busch season but David Ragan did have good equipment with Roush (he must have, Edwards won the title this year, lol) so I don't really mind that Marcos wound up 2nd to him *shrugs*

Re:AMBROSE a true blue FORD champ Reply to this message
He managed to beat quite a few permanent Nextel Cup drivers home in the Championship.
With a better team and car he is definately a driver to watch.
After watching over 90% of the races this season a few comments:
MA proved in Canada that he is one of the best road race drivers in the world.
His track stats show he is not a great fan of the small flat tracks, prefering banked corners.
His re-starts are among the worst in the race. Most re-starts this year saw MA go back 1 or 2 places before regaining race tempo.
Overall he should have won Raybestos Rookie of the Year Trophy. If only not for Gordons temper tantrum he would have picked up a win in Canada and it would have made a different story.

And in 10th he stayed, picking up the rookie honours for the....uh, 7th time (I think) this year. He also stayed in 8th overall.

A great season which could have been even better had he managed to hang on at Montreal (or rather, if his teammate's engine hadn't blown up and his 4+ second lead was evaporated, lol)....oh well, hopefully next year, Marcos.

With only 50 laps remaining in this final round,Ambrose is up to 10th place and has David Ragans lead in the Raybestos Rookie Championship coming down.
Ragan did a similar thing in his ford as we had in Aus the other week when he lost control coming into pit lane.

With 1 race to go for this season,Marcos Ambrose has exceeded his expectations by holding down 8th position on the last race.
He was hoping for a top 35 finish which guarantees automatic entry and has held a top 12 for the entire season. With results going for him this Sunday morning he could find himself in 7th.
If you havent watched a race this year then heres your chance to cheer him home

Re:AMBROSE a true blue FORD champ Reply to this message
Just read through this thread from go till now, and hats off to you guys for keeping it going.

Its fantastic to have an Aussie involved in what is one of the biggest motor sport series' in the world.

The comparisons between V8's and Nascar though are almost a matter of hilarity in this thread though. So many people who are so niave that they only see a brand, and aren't enjoying the sport for what it is. I'm a motor-sport fan, and I'll watch and enjoy just about any type of motor racing, so its disheartening to see so many people bagging oval racing when so much local Australian racing is simply that .. oval racing. Sprint cars, stock cars, etc ..
If you've never been to an oval track you might think its just going around in cirlces. Hey I used to think that way myself, but a previous poster was dead on when they said you get to see EVERYTHING. Not just 1 corner or 1 piece of road .. but the whole circuit, and every event that happens on it (overtaking, collisions, you name it).

You might not be an Ambrose fan, but you should be happy that an Aussie is doing well and being recognised in a series that is so close knit. Ambrose, the team and the sponsers are paving the way for more Aussies to fly the flag internationally, which gives all your favourite drivers a much broader career.

If your argueing that point that I'd question just how much of a motor sport fan you are.

Re:AMBROSE a true blue FORD champ Reply to this message
he didn't have a great day....finished 39th I believe after qualifying a strong 12th. His car didn't seem to handle at all.

and if the video feed on nascar.com is choppy (and every time I have used it, it has been) NFP has the feed as well and it hasn't cut out at all....less traffic on it and all that.

Re:AMBROSE a true blue FORD champ Reply to this message
Ambrose is racing at one of his favourite tracks this week in Kansas.Last year he was in only his 9th race in Nascar Truck Series and he finished a surprising 3rd place.
Its 1.5mile oval with high banks, which agree with Marcos.
Racing starts at 5am Sunday our time and will be screened live at ..www.nascar.com until around 9am.Click on and watch him go.

when I say hardly anyone there, I mean the 'live chat' thing....it's fine if you want to just read stuff, but hopeless for contriubuting anything and discussing it with people.

so NFP for me, lol

ordinarily I'd agree with you....but there is hardly anyone on there and those community things are rubbish. Until they change the format so you can space out paragraphs, I won't be using it as often as I once did.

I still don't understand why they messed around with the site layout....last years was fine *shrugs*

Re:AMBROSE a true blue FORD champ Reply to this message
for those interested in talking about NASCAR with other people who like it, there's a forum that updates news from other sites and has a messageboard where you can post stuff like these yahoo ones....just a NASCAR one instead, lol

but be warned, if you decide to join (and you have to if you want to post stuff), the admin do have access to your account so if you only want to slam people, they'll just delete your account.

the webbie (delete the spacings of course) is; w ww. forum. nascarfrontpage. com
