"There wasn't one WESTS player I did not want to play with, not one dud. I loved WESTS. It is the GREATEST CLUB in the world. To put on a WESTS jumper was equal to wearing an Australian jumper"
NOEL KELLY 1960 - 69.
From Clouds 0f Dust, Bucketts of Blood.

Any WESTS Supporter should know this.

I don't know WESTS starting date , apart from the year 1908, I am proud to say that I am a WESTS supporter. A glorious past and promising future as WESTS TIGERS. Lived through the late 60's , magnificent 70's , endured the 80's & 90's and into the future. You might see me at games in one of my WESTS gerseys this year , I'll be the one yelling COME ON WESTSSSSSS!
BRING BACK LIDCOMBE OVAL. Those were the days.

And if we could bring back the biff,,,imagine a Dallas ploughing up the middle,,Boydie settling the nerves of a few woosy forwards(Would have loved to have seen what he would have done with Tallis),,Baa Baa in the halves (He is really a Maggie,,not a Dog),,,and chuck in Bob Cooper for tackling technique on the opposite wing...

BRING BACK THE BIFFO...

Re:Magpie Corner. Reply to this message
Couldn't agree more "alscamm", I used to think (from everything I had read) that Tommy Bishop was a tough but fair player who was somewhat of a legend of his time for both the Brits and Cronulla, but I was watching some old games on ABC2 (digital) a few weeks ago and they have a 1960's Australia v England test on and right through the game, Bishop was like a little cat, he would kick or gouge an Aussie player who was on the ground and then run away and hide behind the ref or one of his thug forwards. He was also constantly whingeing to the ref about everything. To say my opinion was changed at that moment would be an understatement.

What a little @#$%%%^^^^&!

Our Tommy on the other hand, well what can I say, hard tough fair you name it, at least if he hit someone, he stood and faced them, didn't run away like a baby..

Good on ya Tommy!!!

Re:Magpie Corner. Reply to this message
Aint that the truth..

What was the difference between Tommy and the pommie halves..
Tommy picked the biggest pom and turned on the blue, standing toe to toe.
The pommy half hit an Aussie prop from behind, then hid behind his forwards..Names like Tommy Bishop spring to mind.

Yeah Kangas,,,We tried to bring a few sterling qualities with us into the merger..But Balmain is a "New Age", poofy woofy, limpwristed area now...Maybe Tommy should be employed for a few blood and guts bonding sessions..

Re:Magpie Corner. Reply to this message
Best warm ups before the game
Face slapping eachother for a bonding session.
Tommy lighting up a ciggie before running on.
Dallas skulling a few.
Boyd kissing his knuckles in anticipation.
Bobby Cooper practicing the coathanger.
Ah the good old black & white days sigh.

THIS IS FOR THE TRUE CORE OF THE MERGED TIGPIES.
Where the Magnificent Tommy first plied his craft.
Where Dallas,,well,,did Dallas.

Drop in and leave some Magpie anecdotes..
