| Congratulations to the Williams sisters for taking first and second places in the singles and taking the doubles title as well. I'm sure this will improve their rankings...watch out 'evas; and 'ovas', the sisters are ready to resume their rightful place in womens' tennis...at the TOP! |

| I will be watching with bells on and all hopes that Serena comes thorugh. Loved Richard's comments that if the girls got to face each other in the finals he would be 35,000 feet up in the air becasue there was no way he could watch them both |

| Well Len we both are serena fans. Sorry if I missed out Sleas but you know where I was going to. Yes Monica did start that power playing and Linsday to a certain extent but nothing to what the williams girls have done. All the others all those "evas and ovas" (love that Sernena quote) took it up and where has that got us today great womans tennis |

Damn straight and well stated skip. I will be watching for sure, despite not expecting the fireworks that has long been expected of their finals together. Have always been of the thought that it is not their fault that they make finals against each other - if the other 126 players are not good enough to do so, they don't deserve to be there. As to the person who wrote in antoher thread about placing them ALWAYS in the same half of the draw - what a load of cr.ap - again, if other players aren't good enough to win....
Vamos Serena!!! |

| Geoff, I have to pick you up on a point though....IMO Monica Seles was the player who brought the true all-round power game to women's tennis and was running rampant on the weaker players, and Steffi who had the big forehand only...Venus and Serena extended on this and amped up the level by a bit more. There was definitely Linsay Davenport as well in the early to mid-90s who brought in a huge frame and game, however no one since Seles and The Williams girls have been able to play this game win so consistently. |

The only way for this to happen is if Serena plays a lot of tournaments again. Simple. I would dearly love Serena to be back at #1 and adore her to bits, however the trade off is no #1 however she still wins the occasional GS tournament and is a regular contender almost every other time, even when she is low on match practice.
Somehow I don't see her ramping up her schedule just to get back to #1. She has been there, done that, won a career slam in singles and doubles and still in with the chance to get more...just that tennis is not the be all and end all anymore for her. What a great position she is in. Bless her and Venus for being responsible for "one of" the greatest shifts in the way women's tennis is played and won!! |

Andreihicks:
What you are obviously ignoring is the fact that Woman's tennis would not be where it is today without the input from the Williams sisters. They brought into woman's tennis power playing which was never there before. regardless of what you think about them personally, that is your opnion and I respect that, but you cannot ignor cold hard facts. |

If there are two women I cannot stand in tennis it is them.
Bloody men if you ask me. Yuck, won't be watching. |

| The sisters are doing it again! If they manage to keep going as they are now, they are definitely going to be on top of women's tennis again. I believe Serena or even Venus can be number one again! Go sisters. Wimbledon glory awaits you! |

| yes WTA and ATP points are the same ie 1000 for a win . Serina has only 250 points in French and Wimbledon to prtect so she need to be QF or better |

Yes ayak I do like to get my 2 bobs worth in.
I'm not sure if its the same on the WTA as it is in the ATP but you receive 1000 points for winning a grand slam.
In the 3 remaining grand slams, Serena only made the QF's in each one. She picked up 250 points for each separate one. She only has 750 points to lose for them. The No. 1 seed, Justine Henin has 2350 points to defend. 2 wins and a semi-final appearance.
If Serena wins 2 of these and Justine doesn't make it as far as last year, we could get a 1500 point swing. She must have won a few titles toward the end of the year though as it shows she won 7 titles in total last year.
She's over 3000 points behind Henin but with the points Justine has to defend, it could come down to what happened last year in the mens with Djokovic creeping up on Nadal and Federer. We'll have to wait and see. |

Weekendatbernies1974, for someone who is not really interested, you seem to have a lot to say! I think Serena can be No.1 again...but a little later as there are a lot of points between her and Justine.
How many points do you get when you win Wimbledon?? |

Will Serena be No. 1 again. Who cares :)
Sorry boys but I'm not interested really whether she does or not... but
She has the power and the accuracy needed to make it back to No. 1. Agassi did it in the mens. The only thing she needs is the fitness level and she certainly doesn't lack that at the moment. I don't know the points she has to lose like the mens, I haven't looked them up but I can see her winning another grand slam this year, most probably the US Open. She won't be far off Wimbledon either if she doesn't get up there.
She'll be No. 1 again. Sooner rather than later. |
