Lot of retirements at Barcelona and it is still early days! Thank goodness the serbian sook didn't go or else the percentage might be higher.
Yeah, I saw that article about Nadal this morning - alot of pressure this time of the year to defend ranking points and I think people just expect him to win. There was an interesting article today on tennis.com about Nadal and Federer titled 'no just about it' (concrete elbow section). So fingers crossed...
When is Blake playing next? As for Murray, he might want to hang in there for a few more rounds so as to get some more practice! Considering he spent his junior years in Spain, he should have a stronger game. |

Thanks skip....Guess he had too much golf before he got there. Loved Andy Murry's comments about his lose..Just there to getr soem practice!!!!!!
re your article and all those injuries
With Barcelona two didn't even make the first round Ferrero and Spadea....then retirements from Acasuso,Tipsarevic, Minar,Ramirez Hildago and &.Triocki in first round and M.Lopez in the second. All from James's half of the draw. I bet he is kicking himself
I see nadal thinks the pressure might be too much for him to excel at all the clay court matches:
http://au.sports.yahoo.com/tennis/news/article/-/2 932836
He is after all to quote " The popular victory at the Real club over the world No.45 left Nadal with an enviable 99 wins out of his past 100 clay matches since winning his first Monte Carlo title in 2005. |

Thanks for that skip. Just read the article. Boy are some of them woeful. I think Federer nailed it when he said this about Djokovic after a match in 2006.
"I think he's a joke, you know, when it comes down to his injuries. The rules are there to be used, not abused."
That's the first time I have read or heard anything negative about another player coming from Roger Federer. Just looked up Djokovic's ranking at the time and he was still to blossom, last year was when he did, but he would have still been in the top 50.
I don't know what it is with Haas when it comes to Federer. Federer had won the last 6 matches prior to the last 2 meetings which were a walkover but from the stats on ATP, Federer didn't wipe Haas of the court every match. There were some close sets.
In 2005 when they had the Tennis Masters Cup at the end of the year, most of the top players pulled out with injuries etc. Federer was injured with his ankle and it had been strapped for a couple of months. He was going to pull out as well but with the others not playing and the spectators buying the tickets to see the top 8 in the world he went and played. Made it all the way to the final but hadn't played many long 5 set matches.
Played Nalbandian in the final. Won the first 2 sets but both in tie-breakers and started to tire in the third set which Nalbandian won. He then had to ease off a bit to rest and give himself a chance. Nalbandian won the 4th set 6 - 1. Nalbandian won the first 4 games straight and looked like running away with it before Federer dug his heals in and got it back on serve. I think he even had match point before the tie-breaker but he ended up going down in it. After the match it was all congratulations from Federer to Nalbandian for being the better player on the day. Got to watch that match as well as his other loss which was a great match. The semi against Safin in the Australian Open in 2005.
Doesn't surprise me to see the others there. |

Afternoon all. been abit later in getting here today. Must be that I am catching up on last weeks lost sleep and getting ready for next weeks insomniac schedule.
Barcelona:
All the big guns are up playing matches tonight Including Nadal & Blake. Poor old Nalbandian really struggled last night against Calleri.
Loved that article about misses Skippiglet. My man has none :-)
There were 3 retirements last night including Tipsy |

weekend - the best URL I can source is on Wikipedia for #1 ranked mens players and each period they were ranked at #1 in succession, hence why some players have their names listed more than once. Easiest country reference is the flag in column 1.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ATP_number_1_ ranked_players#Number_1_ranked_men
Don't have much time right now to try and source a better, clearer list from the ATP website, so hope this suffices for a broader view and confirmation to skip's answer. |

I would like Federer to win at Rome. But Nadal has to make it to the final. He has 500 points to lose whereas Djokovic has only 125. Then its 300 and 125 at Hamburg respectively. Nadal has to keep his claycourt record intact to hold off Djokovic for the moment. I'd like to see it as No. 1 Federer and No. 2 Nadal go into both the French Open and Wimbledon and to come out of them as the same.
During the French Open and Wimbledon, the heat starts to be put on Novak. He had a pretty good run towards the end of last year. Federer is the only one who had a better one so Nadal has nothing to lose if he wins a few more events or goes further in some of the tournaments this year.
For Djokovic, 350 points to lose at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Then comes the US Open where Novak has 700 points to lose.
He has to break through Federer or Nadal to make the finals and better the 350 points. Wouldn't mind seeing someone knocking him off early. :) |

grs, I happily took the liberty to post a couple of comments on two of the threads on "Messages for Nole" on his website. Indeed expressed my thoughts as have a number of other people. Definitely worth registering on his website for.
And given that you have been making such a stellar effort to start decent threads and continually working toward promoting sensible and intelligent conversation on tennis, I thought I would give you break in starting up the threads.
Will look at the Barca info in a little while...Thanks as always for that info. Cheerios for now... |

I need computer help - on the Barcelona site, when I try to open 'order of play' it opens briefly then shuts down. I thought it might be something to do with the pop-up blocker and enabled the website but still can't get it to work. I'm sure it is something simple...
Advice please anyone?
Oh Kraavitz - what a little gem you have found on the Serbian starlet's website! I think we should all join his message boards and start contributing.... How long do you reckon we'll last? |

Skip I'll pay for the strepsils and post pack. Maybe it might help the poor bloke.
Put Novak in a 5 set match against Federer or Nadal and he has got no chance. |
