He has seemed to 'get the gist' of 5 setters recently. Has he a new coach?

Anyways, it will be interesting to see how far he can take it.

He is a contender in best of 3 set tourneys. Some think that his inability to perform in best of 5 tourneys is because he chokes.

He is just better in the 'shorter form of the game' and deserves his spot in the top 20, top 10 when in form, as he seems to be, based on his results in this area.

Great to have discussion on tennis for once!

Players come and go and there is always a new croup coming through. Hopefully he has still got some good tennis years in him to come

It is no scret in here that I am a Blake fan. Alot of what you just said I agree with but he has had a reasonably good record
06 6 title and three finals
07 2 titles and thre finals
08 1 title.
He's had alot to contend with over the last couple of years and I still think he is able to do better than his results show.
Fortuately he has broken that five set barrier and the ie break barrier and is starting to pull through in those matches.

And yes he is popular down here and one of the most popular players on the tour

No doubt he is popular, in Aust too. My G/F loves him.

I don't think he chokes, I think the just cannot match the top players when it really matters.

I think he is a little one dimensional (Rafa too actually) in that they rely on their power to get them through, rather than genuine craftsmanship and/or adaptability.

He can construct points, and has flashes of brilliant tennis in general play, but it seems that he cannot really sustain it, and his 'breaks' in the match against these players tends to be opportunist and usually on the opponents errors.

When the opponents steps up, he can counter briefly, but cannot sustain it. I think this is one reason why in best of 5 tournaments - and particularly 5 set matches, he seems to drop out in the quarters or earlier.

Just my 2c

Should the topic be "HAS James Blake washed up?"

When it comes to finals tennis, he is an also-ran.

The time line speaks for itself. He is 28 and never made a slam final. He is a bigger under achiever than David Nalbandian. There comes a point when a player is just making up the numbers.

I don't know what results you are watching His latest rewsults speak for themselves:
1 wining his singles matches as parrt of the winning US Davis Cup Team,

2 been in the 1/4 finals at the AO,

3 won his singles match in the next round of DAvis Cup

4 finals at Delray Beach

5 and now is already in the 1/4's at San Jose

Hardley results of someone who you say has never achieved anything

IS JAMES BLAKE WASHED UP? Reply to this message
I actually like watching him sometimes but he often looks like he will implode from too much effort. He is a good player who should take his winnings and hang out with Bill Scanlon, another good player who never achieved anything of note.
