As usual when ZB is bored he digs up old threads.

Sure Blake has had a bad run in the first few months of this year, so have alot of other players.

For an American to have gotten into a clay court final which he just did last week is an achievement alone. it is not thier favorite suface by any means

Give some credit where it is due.

I watched a bit of his match against Berdych and Blake really should get another coach or something.

Let's face it ....you dont like that he is so popular on the circuit, and doesn't resort to stupid antics like your bosom buddy. He still will be around sometime yet. He doesn't need your support he has enough out there.

Because he has held a ranking near or in the top ten for years and hasn't ever made it past the quarters of a Slam.

His inspiration came from Arthur Ashe and his parents. He lots his father in 05 but his mother is still in his box whenever she can be. And yes he has that great JBlock..some people ridicule this but they are the group of core friends that stuck by him in 05 and were responsible for him getting back into life.

Re:IS JAMES BLAKE WASHED UP? Reply to this message
In the 'Is Federer the greatest ever' thread, I made note that overcoming things such as as these could qualify him as the greatest ever. Blake is a good sport, and never makes excuses.

It is easy to come from advantage, heritage & established support networks.

If Blake had parents like Agassi and Graf, who knows what kind of player he could have become.

A great talent, and great man. Hands down. Tennis purists will still insist that his game cannot match the greats like Fed, Sampras, Agassi and Borg.

But there is much more than being great than merely statistics or results.

Re:IS JAMES BLAKE WASHED UP? Reply to this message
Yes, he had severe scoliosis that forced him to wear a brace from 13-17 yo so he has only picked up tennis around 10 years or so ago.

Given that he has been around already for 4 years or so, that is a great achievement.

Re:IS JAMES BLAKE WASHED UP? Reply to this message
Didn't Blake have alot of trouble with his back? I think I may have read somewhere once that he had to wear a back brace for quite some time.

He has done very well indeed to get to where he is now. Just goes to show what guts and determination can do!

Good on him - I hope he can get deeper into this tournament.

The most amazing thing about James Blake is his attitude to both tennis and life - he has been through so much and now really appreciates the opportunities that come his way.

Re:IS JAMES BLAKE WASHED UP? Reply to this message
Yep he got that monkey off his back with five setters but agree with the shorter form of the game. But oh what a five setter that was with Agassi at the US OPen. That match will go done as one of the best for ages.

As for his coach...no he has had the same guy since he first started out. Some say he should change but I dont agree.

and yes it is good to get away from the Zedbrat stuff. I think we should re start this thread as it was one of his anti anyone else except ARod
