but would "Huey", as you affectionately call him, have beaten Ken Roseall in 1975, with a wooden racquet?
I think you have a secret crush on Little Lleyton, des. |

The response was to the comment that Hewitt was the GREATEST ever Aussie player
Wrong.
Laver
Hoad
Rosewell
Roche
Emerson
were all greater Australian Players - Rod Laver is the greatest. |

gr, this happens all the time. There have been many, many examples of players ranked higher than Hewitt receiving wildcards into tournaments due to failure to nominate.
Given Lleyton's recent injury concerns, I think it's pretty understandable that he would have been reluctant to nominate if it meant he might have to withdraw later. |

Intering fact...
To be able to take part in any event ie the Masters you have to notify by six weeks prior to the event that you wish to apply. Take a look at those accepted for Canada Masters and there are many with lower ranking than that of Hewitt. They applied by the deadline and he didn't way? He then had to rely on been given a wild card. Hardly fair on any other player that should be considered for a Wild Card to take part when he could easily have gotten into the direct entry list as so many haven't applied.
He did apply for Cincinnati and Washington and got direct entry as there were places available. |

hello...
master of none as I did not see the blake match at the US Open and the context the comment was made, I really cannot comment. But you are right that was all over the news as well.
Maybe Lleyton s problem was he could not put into word what he really felt. Like the time he played Kafelikov in the Davis cup semifinal and said "he wanted to kill the russian". |

Lleyton Hewitt
Well, he has a heart of gold
He plays every match with 110 percent
He is still a very young man with his life ahead of him
I think maybe private things happened at the wrong time... but nevertheless having been away from the circuit for quite a while... then having the hip injury/surgery he has come back to the tennis circuit as a force to be reckoned with.
Anyone who plays Lleyton will have to play a good game of tennis to beat him and I hope he does well later this year..
If he doesnt.... dont write him off... write yourself off!!! He has achieved more than you ever will. |

hello...
well i have something to say!!!
I was wondering if Hewitt had as many critics before he became number 1 in 2001/2002 season. I really only remember the criticism from his "spastic" outburst during the french open that year, but that was all wasn't it? |

| I really enjoyed watching Hewitt at Wimbledon. I did think he would have been knocked out earlier but he did very well to go as far as he did. Just shows he has the determination to get better and his ranking will just continue to improve. Don't know how long he can keep it up though but it is nice for Australian tennis. All those people that knock him should be ashamed - at least he is still getting out there. Must have been hard to come back so well from a hip injury. Really not one of my favourite players but you have to admire his grit. |

| Accurate assessment of Hewitt's prospects zed - he lacks the size and strength to challenge the top players, but the mental toughness and tenacity still goes a long way if he is able to maintain fitness. |

| You know I'm not a fan of Hewitt at all.Del Potro was out of sorts when he played Hewitt. However I watched Hewitt acquit himself very well against Roddick in the Wimbledon quarter-final.I thought Roddick would demolish him but to his credit Hewitt played his usual crafty game which is his forte.I don't think we will ever see Hewitt in a Slam final again but he will win more than he loses in the next 12 months.I think he has the determination to get back in the top 20. |

| nicolina - the whole idea of these threads is to exchange ideas and opinions - what a dull world it would be if we all agreed with each other about everything! Each of us can express our opinions and put forward our theories and enjoy the discussions that follow. Half the fun is disagreeing and FRIENDLY arguments. |

hello...
No sorry twoleftfeet I have to agree with some of the comments. Lleyton is becoming more and more like Norman in some respects.
Also, let's be honest, his great run at Wimbledon, he was fortunate to play Juan del Potro in the second round - a South American who had limited experience on grass and therefore has not yet adapted his game to the court surface.
Lleyton a former Wimbledon and queens champion, was able to expose this as well as the tall man's lack of confidence on lawn.
Oh I hate it when you and I cannot agree. |

| Why do you consider him "greedy"? He is no different from all the professional tennis players who earn a living from their tennis. He is the only Aus male player in the top 50 (next in ranking is not even in the top 100!) and showed at Wimbledon he can still match it with the better players - he lost to Roddick who was a finalist - defeating one of the "up and coming" young top 10 players on the way. Why do you begrudge him the right to play the game he loves to the best of his ability until HE feels it is time to stop. |
