Well he put up a good fight and in the end Roddick won. A very tight match that could have gone either way.
Thankfully at least Hewiit has the compensation of getting back into the top 100 |

Hewitt currently is ranked #103 on 855 points.
a) If Lleyton doesn't win against Roddick he scores 180 ranking points taking him to a ranking of around #77.
b) If Lleyton DOES win against Roddick but looses in the final then he scores 300 ranking points taking him to a ranking of around #65.
c) If Lleyton DOES win against Roddick AND wins the FINAL then he scores 500 ranking points taking him to a ranking of around #50.
All these scenarios are great for his rankings. Any ranking points he picks up between now and Roland Garros are virtually a bonus as he only is defending around 190 points - which is what he gets even if he looses today.
He needs to stay on the road and pick up these points and do the hard grind. It's hard to do for a married man with 2 kids, but if he stays injury free and maintains his momentum he might be seeded by Wimbledon |

Even though Hewitt has a winning 6-3 record against Roddick, they haven't played since QF of the USO in 2006 (Roddick in straights).
I think this next match-up will go Roddick's way - he is far fitter and without the physical issues Hewitt has had to deal with since his surgery last year.
I'm not saying Hewitt doesn't have a chance but it just looks more favourable to Roddick. At least Hewitt should gain some ranking points and hopefully bring him back into the top 100.
Roddick in 3. |

| An easy win for Hewitt - as I said Rochus didn't have any weapons to use - Roddick will be quite a challenge - a true indication of how far back he has come - hope they have "hawk-eye" working for that match - wouldn't really want to be the ref for that match. |

| Well that is wrose then ...all you said about his loss is that he did well. You as usual make so many comments on so many threads it is hard to keep up with the rubbish that continually comes out of your fingers |

| Yes agreed gr... Blake is a good player. Just like Hewitt is a good player. But Hewitt has always been a bit better than Blake. You just have to look at their previous match ups to see that. |

Sushi anyone who has been consitantly in the top 15 and lower is a good player or else they wouldn
't be there.. As for the Hewiit match the stats are quite equal in many ways. Blake saved 6/9 break pioints and Hewitt 10/11. That last set could have gone either way and hewitt came through. Yes I do follow Blake but not to the excluson of others. I ahve been away so haven't had a chance to post much. My point about ZB was theat yes he is a roddick fan fine. But all he says is that he had a cold and did well. Excuses. I am not making excuses at all rather that the best man ont he night won |

What does Hewitt's ranking have to rise to for him to get direct entry into the Masters at Indian Wells and then the Masters at Miami ?
If he doesn't get direct entry will he seek a wildcard or go down the qualifying path ? |

| And as for Hewitt and Roddick both sharing the feat of 4 Slam final appearances.Hewitt faced Fedex only once and got smashed in straight sets ,2 of them bagels.Hewitt's Slam victories are also fairly hollow, one against a over the hill Sampras and the other against the one final wonder Nalbandian, the biggest under achiever after James Blake. |

| Even though I don't care for Hewitt it would be good to have someone with a bit of spirit back on the court playing well again.Half of what's out there look like they are on mogadon or something. The show no emotion coaching ethos certainly has made tennis boring. |

That Hewitt is and always has been a better player than Blake.... |

Don't forget he did break hewitt in the first set so at least four happened then.
Black must have gotten lucky with some unforced errors
That Hewitt being able to break 3 times meant that he was racking up the points on Blake service too.
In other words (despite the first set scoreline) Hewitt was in control and won easily after a typical slow start. |

Maybe grsydney should look at this stat & face reality.
"Hewitt gave up only EIGHT points on serve in the match and had 10 aces"
Three set match.
13 service games each.
8 points |

analysing the stats or perhaps has put a gun to his head.
He loves Blake with a passion and hates Hewitt with a vengeance.
One thing about Zed and his admiration for Roddick is that win or lose he is always here supporting him. That is a true fan in my book!
The fan that only comes on here when his favourite players win is not a true fan at all. That goes for all sports! |
