How many players on the ATP have actually played for 10 years or more? Does anyone know?
What is scary is how Fed is already up to 47! |

I think it shows just how Lleyton is travelling when people are pushing/barracking/hoping that little Ley ley can get back into the top 10.
Gee, that's only 10 spots down from where he was ranked for two years, not so long ago.
Yep, Ley Ley shouldn't have any troubles at all getting back into top 10, maybe to 3rd - 5th.
But lets be honest here - he'll still be miles behind the Fed Ex! |

Lleyton is now the only player on the ATP Tour to have won at least one title a season for 10 straight years.
His 26th career title elevates Hewitt to equal 23rd alongside Russian Yevgeny Kafelnikov on the all-time list of tournament winners.
Among active players, only Federer, with 47 titles, has accrued more silverware.

As of yesterday after all tournaments were complete - Lleyton is at no.20. Only four people have played the same or less tournaments than him in the top 20. Federer/Nadal/Nalbandian/ Gonazales. BTW its only 1 - 2 games difference. The others have played up to 11 more tournaments than Lleyton. So if he stays injury free, he should achieve his goal of top 10 by the end of the French open. Here's hoping.
Good luck Lleyton...keep fighting! |

| As I stated on my first post: Small steps. Getting back into the top 20 (unless he's there now), then top 15, and so on... and a tourney's a tourney. Why complain about it? |

Actually he beat Marat Safin n the Semi-finals! But maybe you haven't heard of him....you know the guy that won the Aus open a few years ago. Top 10 player.
Anyway all this thread is about is Lleyton on his "way" back to the top 10. That's all. And i think it is fair enough seeing that this is a tennis forum. Get it? Lleyton, Tennis, the fact that he said at the start of the year that he wants to be back in the top 10 this year. |

| and who played in that tournament? All the "BIG" ones were playing somewhere else except for Blake who was unfortunate to be eliminated by the round robin fiasco . And according to news stories the first one to onject to put Blake back into the game was Hewitt..... I wonder why? Too scared maybe? Coz he knows that Blake has improved a lot more in the past year whereas he was plagued by his so called "INJURIES" that is when he loses. |

| He won just one tournament and he is back in the top ten? Isn't it a bit too early to be glorifying Hewitt? I mean how many other players have emerged eversince he has gone down? And I think he won by chance coz Blake got kicked out by the stupid round robin rules. Anyway he still has a long way to go and maybe who knows when he starts losing in the next tournament he will come up with another injury, probably this time in his brain. |

Former world number one Lleyton Hewitt beat Austrian Juergen Melzer 6-4 7-6 to win the Las Vegas Open on Sunday, his first tournament victory in eight months.
The Australian came back from 4-1 down in the second set and saved four set points before winning an epic tiebreak to clinch his 26th career title, making amends for his defeat by American James Blake in the final 12 months ago.
Melzer broke in the second game and held the advantage until 4-2 when a series of errors allowed Hewitt to get back on serve.
The second seed saved a set point at 5-6 with a solid smash and three more in the tiebreak as he recovered from 6-4 down to win it 12-10 on his fourth match point when Melzer netted a forehand.
Hewitt became only the second man, after American Andre Agassi, to win the Las Vegas title three times and he has now won an ATP Tour event in each of his 10 years as a professional.
Well done Hewitt!. Lets hope this is the start of a good run back up the rankings. |

Success! Ruddy long tiebreak, I thought the website was having issues. |

Top 20 first (I heard he went outside that), then top 15, then top 10.
Take them by steps. He has a long way to go, I think. But yeah, good luck to the guy. He has a good chance to actually win a tourney for the first time in ages. |

LAS VEGAS, United States (AFP) - Second-seeded Australian Lleyton Hewitt will take on Austrian Jurgen Melzer in the final of the 416,000-dollar ATP tournament here after a semi-final win over Marat Safin.
Hewitt must have played some great tennis to win the battle of the former world number ones 7-5, 6-1.
The victory gives Hewitt a chance to improve on his performance here last year, when he lost to American James Blake in the final.
Ley Ley has vowed to get back in the top 10 this year, and lets hope that he has no injury woes this year as he endeavours to do so.
Good Luck!! |
