| nicolina - the loss to Federer was back in January- the loss in the French was a 5-setter from which he has obviously learnt a lot - the loss to a former title-holder and outstanding grass-court player was no disgrace - a season with his highest ranking yet, 3 titles one of which is the US Open, wins over both Federer and Nadal and a 49 - 11 win loss record is not just consistent - it's bl**dy brilliant IMHO and all from a (barely) 21 year old! |

hello...
I beg to differ. Del Potro lost badly to Federer at this year's Australian and to Lleyton Hewitt at Wimbledon. Hardly what could be described as consistent. |

| Del Potro is the most improved ,consistent and best male player of the last 12 months.I think Robin Soderling comes second.Roddick comes third. |

Soul,i'm waiting for a response in re to the info i wrote in this thread ?
The list clearly shows the top 5 male players and their results this season.
Do you have an opinion on it or have you been convinced that Federer has been the most consistent and best player so far in 2009? |

Well it didnt take too long, there is a website that basically has all that info at just one click.
I think soul needed to see the season stats for himself and stare at the truth.
Its really a compelling stat for people that refuse to admit Federer is currently the most consistent, best performed and best slam player in mens tennis this year,so far.
Del Potro is most improved, yes, but as all sports people know, once you get to the top the scope of improvement isnt as much when you are climbing to the top.
Until or if Del Potro becomes as good or better than Federer of course his rate of improvement will be better than Federer's because he is chasing a world number 1 who has taken tennis to another level.
One thing i do know is that Mens tennis is getting stronger and its getting harder to stay at the top and perform.
Should augur well for a great Australian Open. |

I am amazed that you would go to all this effort for the child
Yes, I wonder how long it will take him to find his tennis partners to invent a reply
When he is lost for words, he usually finds some in the gutter, so be prepared |

Table didnt come out right.
Should read;
Federer; 57/8 , 4 titles , 2 slams , 2 masters
Nadal; 57/8 , 5 titles , 1 slam , 3 masters
Murray; 56/11, 5 titles , 0 slam , 2 masters
Del Potro;50/11, 3 titles , 1 slam , 1 masters
Roddick; 49/13, 1 title , 0 slam , 1 masters
Djokovic;58/17, 2 titles , 0 slams , 0 masters |

NAME | WIN/LOSS | TITLES | SLAMS | MASTERS |
FEDERER 57 / 8 4 2 2
NADAL 57 / 8 5 1 3
MURRAY 56 / 11 5 0 2
DEL POTRO 50 / 11 3 1 1
RODDICK 49 / 13 1 0 1
DJOKOVIC 58 / 17 2 0 0
These results show that Federer has a slight advantage over Nadal and ahead of others in the title of best performed and most consistent player in mens tennis so far this year.
The table constitues all games played in all tournaments, including Slams,Masters and other tournaments.
Slams and Masters should hold more weight as they include all the best players in the world.
Federer has the best record of all of the above playing all players in the top 20 players this year.
Federer has the equal best winning percentage with Nadal.
Federer has won more Grand Slams and been Runner up more than anyone this year.
I think the above imformation will show the doubters that Federer is still number 1 and is currently the best male player in the game at the moment.
Stats sometime dont give a true indication in sport but the game of Tennis is based on stats and results and above is reality.
Look forward to your reply Soul. |
