Hello...
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/wimbledon0 8/news/story?id=3470363
Admittedly from last year but still just as relevant today, there is an interesting web/link article titled: WIMBLEDON WOMEN'S COURT SCHECULING CONCERNS WTA CHIEF.
Interesting point is that Federer last played a match outside of the two show courts in his 2003 quarterfinal. All of his matches since then have been either on Centre or Court 1. This must be a record by any top seeded player. |

Hello...
Haas, Nadal and Federer are all hot! But I'd choose Haas any day of the week. I used to have a Roddick poster on my wall but that was long time ago as I found his attitude became bad.
I would like to thank everyone whether you agree or disagree with my comments. All I care about really is the tennis first. The other stuff I can just look at in tennis mags and fantasise over, lol |

| grsydney but it's the truth. Since Ted Tiniling (now deceased) became involved. Men adore Women who are blessed with striking femininity and with such lovely smiles and very nicely dressed at all times. I used to admire Carling Bassett. |

"The only reason people watch women's tennis is for the sex appeal. So it was, so it is, so it always will be..."
That Is the sexest comment ever Mr Vince. Shame on you. If you think that is the only reason why people enjoy watching emans tennis then dont wacth. It is NOT a beauty contest. It is people like you with thoughts like that that kill the same of sport which happens to include men AND women |

Nicolina - As MON stated before "Sex Sells" that's the reality my dear.
Just Look at the women's wimbledon semis and oh what a complete joke. One absolute epic semifinal (rated as one of the best since the 2005 Ladies final) and one that was one-sided.
Gone are the days of regular, competitive, and exciting tennis with Evert,Navratilova, Capriati, Graf,Seles, etc . There is no feasible way ANYONE can take this part of tennis seriously. Sadly there has been an increase of screaming ladies with the same baseline boring styles who compete for the best out of 3 sets FOR THE SAME AMOUNT OF PRIZE MONEY. I'm all for women's rights and all but you NEED to be seen earning it. Tennis like ALL other sports is businesses. Their performance affects how much revenue the league acquires. If you have women who play consistently non-exciting tennis with shorter matches. No one will watch it.
The only reason people watch women's tennis is for the sex appeal. So it was, so it is, so it always will be...
Finally I am not sure if it just about the All England Club as they may well be reacting as a result of pressure by television interests (who goes on centre court, who doesn't). That's the reality of it. |

Sex sells. Welcome to the real world.
Good looking players draw bigger crowds and higher television ratings. This is a fact. The Williams sisters are very successful, but usually their matches (particularly at Wimbledon) are about as interesting (read : attractive)to watch as NASCAR. You can put players like Kuznetsova in that group too.
I'm not saying I agree with it - I'd rather watch good tennis - but there's no point complaining about it other than for the sake of an argument. The numbers, and the dollars, will always dictate. |

I agree that a players looks should not be considered when court allocations are made. I think it is actually a sad indictment on the women's game that they are even thinking this way.
Clearly they feel the quality of the tennis is not getting viewers enthralled, and they may have a point. But, IMO, the only factor that should come into decision making like this is the ability of the players.
While they may not be good looking, and they are the epitome of arrogance, the Williams 'sisters' should command centre court every time they play. They are dominant forces at Wimbledon and should be treated the same way as Rafa and Federer. |

Hello...
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,,25712334 -3162,00.html
what do tennis fans female and male make of this -
This to me is a disgusting example of endemic sexism, and another illustration of how society appears only able to cope with an 'acceptable' version of femininity.
It also demonstrates a really poor attitude to the serious nature of women in tennis.
Why should women who have spent their time and have the grace and athleticism and dedication necessary to succeed be treated in this way?
This is simply unethical and as a tennis fan I say shame on those in charge for propagating such sexist attitudes.
Hoping to hear what other think (sensible comments please)! |
