I had a friend who was beaten with a fence paling. So now, whenever I see a fence, I push it over.

If we can get back on topic now

I was wondering if all the states are getting the wimbledon coverage live from C9. Cause here in adelaide, we sure aren't.

hi folks...

Been having PC issues big time as well as an erratic modem too.

nicolina, I am so sorry to hear about your tragedy but i'm sure nyeninch was just using the nickname in context. I hope you have love and support from your friends and family to get you through this girl.

I believe del potro would be a big favourite to win in straight sets as Hewitt does not have much of a game to hurt him with.

hello...

my comment was directed to the poster before not you twoleftfeat44. Unless people know what's it's lke to loose someone or a loved one in this fashion you really don't know what you're talking about.

Taking things far too seriously nicolina - all the examples mentioned are referring to the speed of the serve and are not "glorifying" guns/missiles/rockets - and please don't tell me to grow up - at 67 I'm in no hurry to get old.

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
hello...

it's a stupid nickname for Pete that was only in use from 1994 and thanfully phased out before he retired from tennis. It is far from pedantic and a serious issue as far as i'm concerned in australia and other parts of the world. If you can't understand or appreciate this, then i'm sorry dear, you do need to grow up.

Also i know what it's like to have a friend murdrered by these types of weapon!!!!

You take a highly pedantic exception to a nickname, and then tell some else to grow up?! Pistol was just a nickname - like 'scud' for the poo or 'Rocket' Rod Laver.

It's not like someone ever picked up a gun because their favourite tennis player had a gun-esque nickname!

No hope of the production of "classic grass courts" at the moment. Check out the men's top twenty - 17 are clay-courters (18 if you count Murray who played most of his junior years on clay) only Blake and Roddick are not and they favour hard courts anyway. The current crop of juniors, even from Australia, would seldom if ever play on grass.

"...good watching Pistol Pete at his best"

hello...

How I hated that description about Pete Sampras to describe his game. In this age of sensless violence and widespread use of illegal firearms I fail to see the glorification of "pistols" as an analogy to a tennis players serve.
Grow up my dear!

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
When they speed up courts, the baseliners complain, when they slow down courts, the big hitters complain - you will never avoid problems with the courts.

The more diverse the surfaces for each of the slams, the better I think. France should be slow, Wimbledon quick.

The days of clay courters avoiding Wimbledon qre hopefully over, but it shouldn't deter the All England Club from producing 'classic' grass courts.

I agree with your comments it is always good to see the attacking player coming to the net, now days its just bash it back and back and back etc. It was certainly good watching Pistol Pete at his best

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
hello..

i have to agree with twoleftfeet44 regarding the courts are slow. However I remember a time about 10 or 12 years ago when they was complaing the courts were fast and no more than 2-3 shot rallies was soooo boring.

it's all personal choice but i prefer baseline rallies as opposed to 2-3 shot rallies.

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
Comment made about ladies tennis now applies to men's - most of them only come to the net to shake hands. We have a generation of hard-hitting baseliners/claycourters with only a few attempting any form of net play. With the modern racquet technology and pace of shot there is little room for touch or finesse any more. Even Federer comes forward less, because the speed of return makes volleying difficult even for those with talent.

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
Yeah, they've been slow for years, no way could Nadal have won Wimbledon ten years ago.

At least if they're chopped up, we might see a bit more net-play.

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
How slow are the courts though? Watching a 23 SHOT ralley in the Seppi/Blake match - could almost have been on a hard court or clay! All set up for the clay-courters to do well. Dokic in her interview (before the match not after) commented that the courts were much slower than a few years ago.

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
Llodra has again aired the annual complaint that the courts are chopping up and players are getting bad bounces.

To that I say: GOOD. Learn to volley, you chumps.

You don't have to worry about bad bounces if you hit the ball on the full.
