I stand corrected - goran made 4 wimbledon finals of course only winning one. I thought he only played two.

quick stat

Ivanišević holds the record for most aces served in a year with 1477 in 1996. He also holds 3rd, 4th and 5th place on "most aces in a season" list (Ivo Karlovic is 2nd)

hello...
I think Hewitt will create some problems for Roddick and Andy won't have as many easy service games as he had in his earlier matches. If tLleyton returns reasonably good , it will be up to Roddick to maintain his service rhythm and not loose his head.

So which player has a better shot of beating Murray should they meet in the semis - Lleyton or Andy?

I think Goran played four finals?

I might be getting carried away with Roddick, but his serving against Berdych was scary. I guess Tom ain't the greatest returner getting around, so maybe that inflated the numbers a bit, but I doubt Hewitt can overcome that and I think Murray will have run out of gas by the semis.

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
you are right MON that is his name.

Interesting how you pick Roddick. If you are right he will be the only other player on the tour to have played 3 Slam finals at Wimbledon, or even at the same Slam tournament other than Rafa and Fed.

You would have to go back to Sampras/Agassi at the US Open (90,95,02)

Hello - Watching Wimbledon this year has been about as exciting as watching the paint dry. Its been so boring, and dull, no wonder the television ratings are poor.

But I did not see the Murray-Wawrinka match you talk about as I had studies to attend yesterday. It must have been really early in the morning.

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
I always thought his name was Stan-islas! My bad.

I see it panning out this way:

SF: Roddick v Murray, Djokovic v Federer
F: Roddick v Federer
W: Federer (again)

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
I think your right Murray doesn't seem to have the fitness for 5 setters. He reliance on quality of his shots means he can usually pull through, but get him running and he will find it really hard in the next, if he doesn't run out of puff in the process.

Someone like Roddick who plays quick points might not really challenge him if he returns well, but someone that plays angles and runs - the hewitt type of player might have a better chance late in a Slam.

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
This time last year Andy "Muzza" Murray had came from behind to defeat french man Richard Gasquet in five sets (about 3 and half hours). Then in his quarterfinal against Nadal, Andy was totally spent and played one of the worst matches I ever seen by him.

Now Murray needs to thrash Ferrero as quickly as he dealt with Troicki to have a chance and be recovered in time for the semi finals, especially if it's Hewitt he plays where there'll be gruelling rallies.

Murray match against St *** lw was even longer than last years match against Richard and to be honest Muzza should have won in 4 but all credit to Wawrinka for fighting back.

The result was never in doubt, Muzza's game was eventually going to prevail.

Unfortunately apart from this one match - this year's Wimbledon can hardly be described as exciting. It should pick up on the business end.

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
I don't think i would make much difference to be honest. Look at the players left in the draw, how many of them have the ability to serve-volley?

Haas comes from the Bolletierri school, so no
Ferrero is a Spaniard, so no
Hewitt won this title in 2002 without serve-volleying once, so no
Karlovic doesn't count, because he serves out of a tree anyway

I guess the big 4 for this tournament might, although Djokovic is unlikely to. Federer, Murray and Roddick probably would go to net more often.

"If the courts are fast, he serve-and-volleys a lot".

Yes M.O.N that's a good answer. Can I assume therefore you would like to see the courts or the balls compression speeded up to bring back more serve-volley action? I know I would.

Seriously, I don't get the logic behind the All Englands club decision on scheduling (what they percieve) the good looking babes - unless they have been pressured to by the likes of the BBC (the domestic t.v. broadcast owners for Wimbledon).

Being a Men's and Women's Grand slam It's not as though wimbledon is having a problem generating ticket sales and as far as attracting broader TV audience (i.e. high ratings) is concerned any televised court is fine.

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
The best test for court speed is how Federer is playing. If the courts are fast, he serve-and-volleys a lot.

I don't think he's done that much in this tournament.

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
no my friend they are playing slow.

Only 7 years ago it was rare for a tennis match to last as long as four hours, unless the 5th set was a very long one.

Perhaps also the compression of the balls have been slowed
considerably too. Your guess is as good as mine.

Still it was a great match and also a historic one and a shame there had to be a loser.

GO MUZZA !!!!

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
Wimbledon R 16 : Andy Murray [3] d. St *** las Wawrinka [19] 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3

Amazing match this !!!! And it's ignited the whole tournament IMO. Both played amazingly well in parts but Muzza's serving was average. Still Andy at the end of the day (or night) was able to figure a way to win inspite of not playing his best and that's a good sign for him as he will get better.

My concern now for Andy is - will he recover for the next round as that was mentally draining and exhausting a tennis match to watch for the spectators as it was for the players to play it out.

Re:wimbledon 2009 Reply to this message
hello everyone,

I been watching Roddick and Murray's matches and they're looking like they are starting to hit their straps at the right time. Murray had a 5 set win but responded to pressure with some truly magnificent tennis. I feel those two will get to one semifinal no problem.
