| You are observant chap - my last sentence was tongue in cheek. It is true close on 40 years I have followed tennis starting as a player in Queensland. |

Started when I was 8 or 9. Me grandpa lived next to a neighbor who had an artificial grass court in his frontyard at his house and one time he just brought the whole family together, took out an assortment of old wooden racquets & got us to hit with him. Been playing ever since ... So it's been about seven years, lol, lol, lol,

After checking out his stats he was actually 11 at the time. Kudos is all i can say. I was able to serve quite well and had a pretty decent onehanded topspin backhand but can't actually remember getting too much leverage off it.
What i do remember is not being able to pass him once he got court position. I don't think i ever actually passed him and it was straight sets with double breaks for those in the gallery.
Oh well... |

I won a couple of minor tourneys though. I have to say that the most impressive thin that i remember (especially in hindsight) was playing at one of the Davis Cup satellites after being pipped in the 3rd round a young player (only 12 or 13 yrs old - i was 16) that took out the U16's and U18s by the name of L Hewitt.
He was the talk of the tournament. He didn't even bother contesting U12s or U14s I am pretty sure he won the U18 doubles too. Not sure about the mixed as we had to take a 6hr trip home |

I took up tennis at 13 after playing grade cricket for 7 years. My dad was a big mcenroe fan and it was natural to pick up the sport i guess.
I played in my double brick garage for months and months with just a chalk line on the wall, serving ,returning etc.
I ended up winning my first tournament (doubles) after two months of starting 'proper' fixtures, and finally was a member of the Qld state squad after a year.
I was consistent at the very least in my results. I was routinely smashed by players that were taller, fitter and better equipped (talent, technique, training and equipment) once i reached that level though - haha!
I didn't last long as a result. I have thought about coaching but decided to move on to a different career so i very rarely play anymore.
But my love of tennis is still ingrained. I love the game.
I respect the various approaches to tennis played by the pros, and the quality of game that is presented by the many different players on the tour.
I still get the opportunity to get a couple of games away when i can, but i am a spectator these days really. |

I love both players, I tend to back Roger over Nadal simply for the record breaking possibility.
I have always been into tennis. Mum used to play a couple of times a week and, naturally, I was arounf the courts from as early as I can remember.
I have been playing since I was 4 (I'm now 29) and, while never having any chance of turning pro, have been more than satisfied with what I have taken out of tennis.
I have enjoyed umpiring satellite tournaments (line, not chair) and coach kids at the local courts and through the school. I just love the game and get involved whenever and however I can. |

| I like both Federer and Nadal too, they are both fantastic players in their own right. It is hard if they are both playing each other, I just enjoy the game as it doesnt really matter to me who wins, although I am hoping Federer beats Sampras'record!! |

hello...
good question. I was supporting Nadal at the Australian final on the basis he had not won before while Federer won three times I believe.
And you who do you like the best? |

Well I used to go to a local indoor club nearby which had a couple of outside tennis courts when about 12 (now early 20's), and my parents encouraged me to play and even paid for my lessons but I wasn't really good so gave up the lessons after a year and have only played average of once a month since then. Used to follow and was a fan of some of the players such as Edberg, Sampras and Sabatini, Capraiti etc but lost enthusiasm after they'd retired. I am now a huge Federer fan and Nadal fan too. I don't care what some people say they've been great for tennis.
Does that sound crazy? That you can be a fan of both rivals! I am the only one I know of that is a fan of the two top players in the world. |
