Guys stay calm we are not having a silly argument here. I don't know about Rod Laver, he was before my time. But people have been writing off Roger for 12 months and he still won the US Open last year. Face reality! I won't go so far as to say Roger is the greatest but he does look like the greatest as of now !
One thing I can say for certain is I am so glad the scream queen is gone and we can enjoy good tennis without the very annoying distraction. If she had not screamed so much she could have conserved energy and perhaps played better than she did. |

you'd bloody cry too if you just missed your chance to equal pete sampras's record and missed out! i'd bawl for days. he's obviously the most passionate player in the competition! oh well, he'll get wimbledon and be victorious! and besides, don't diss him, i like a man that cries. :)
federer is the greatest. |

| rod laver is the greatest ever, grand slam in 1962 and again in 1969 when they let professional tennis players back in. sampras and federer have not come close to 1 grand slam let alone 2. |

| You said he would never equal Sampras' record and he did. Now he is after breaking it and he will. Unlike you I dont say when but it would be nice if it was at Wimbledon |

| I remember when Pete won his 14th GS at the USO '02. I thought then we'll never see this again. Roger Federer had not even won his first GS at that time (Wimbledon '03) so just 7 years later, against the odds, not only has it happened again, but Roger has a golden chance to surpass it 2 weeks from now!!! |

<...did tennis fans, critics and columnists say Laver was best of all time in the late 60's and early 70's?...>
Probably, it has more to do with the advent of th eopen era really.
Laver's form was the norm only until years later when it was recognised how impressive his achievements really were. As the years ticked past Vials, Borg, Lendl, Sampras it became apparent how impressive they really were.
Until Sampras there has been no real challenge to Lavers' throne, ultimatley one would still have to say laver over sampras.
But then Federer comes along, and it is hard to come to grips with the new reality.
The rest is up to you really |

not as likable as Pistol Pete or Agassi. It is hard to vote him greatest player of all time when he incorporates his "fashion" into "mens" tennis
===
Hahaha, Agassi didn't incorporate fashion into men's tennis!?!? Ok, so the Pirate look, the fluro look and all the other 'looks' he introduced to the game were what?
Agassi played the first half of his career as the most arrogant pig of a player out there. He made a conscious decision to pick up his act later in life, but it still crept out at times. |

"Now Pete Sampras on the other hand was a peoples champion"
Now that is comedy. Are we talking about Boring Pete, who intimidated ballboys and refused to sign autographs? |

<<I don't think i'd have a beer with federer, too pompous.>>
Please do not say things like that to hurt Rodgies feelings. We all know how sensitive he is and the last thing we want to is see Rodgie cry AGAIN! |

| Federer might be statistically "almost" the greatest player of all time, however, his persona is not as likable as Pistol Pete or Agassi. It is hard to vote him greatest player of all time when he incorporates his "fashion" into "mens" tennis. It seems that success has created an egotistical monster inside his head. Now Pete Sampras on the other hand was a peoples champion, he was "quietly" confident and definately a more likeable character. I don't think i'd have a beer with federer, too pompous. |

Tall players have advantages in terms of reach & height when serving or at the net, but they are disadvantaged when getting low to the ball for groundstrokes.
You can't dominate with just one weapon (serve, forehand, speed, fitness). On your off days when these fail you, well you play average or worse. |

this is going to sound ridiculous, but I think Del Potro is too tall to really dominate. Look at the really great players, Agassi, Sampras, Federer, thy're all around 6 foot, just under or just over. Even Hewitt, who was number one for two years, is just under six foot. At 6'6", I think Del Potro is going to get caught out by more agile, smaller opponents every now and again.
Murray, who knows, his biggest problem is his heritage and the ridiculous amount of pressure he cops from his countrymen. |

| Nadal is the only one from those you named that may break the Federer/Sampras record[he only shares it at this stage].It's more the guys you haven't mentioned that are the worries,Andy Murray and Del Potro are better than you give them credit for.Either one will break through very soon. |

| There are young players now copying and even working to improve on the methods that propelled Federer and Nadal to the top.It will happen in the next few years. |
