| He was a bit unlucky to come up against such a great grass court player in Hewitt.I think if it had had been a genuinely lower ranked player he may have played himself into a bit of form on the grass. One has to remember this guy is still only 20. |

| I agree. But his grasscourt game needs some work. He really looked like a mug at Wimbledon versus Hewitt. |

| hello...I am not sure but a country such as Argentina does not have grasscourts. No Argentinian player apart from David Nalbadian who lost to Lleyton in the 2003 final has done well at Wimbledon. Don't take it a s gospel though as i need to check Women's singles. |

Oh You are such a very wise lady TLF.
I wish I could place my left hand gently on your right cheek and look into your eyes and tell you how wise a lady I think you are!!!
Agreed that Del Potro's early departure is going to rob Wimbledon of some truly magnificent tennis. It is a pity that the seedings committee did not see fit to grant Hewitt a seed. If they had've done then Del Potro and Hewitt would have met in the fourth round, deservedly so.
It is actually a double standard as they granted Maria Sharapova the 2004 champion, a higher seed #24 bypassing her WTA computer ranking of #56. But sadly she lost her second round match yet why wasn't the same seeding accorded to Hewitt? Quite an irony isn't it. |

I think he can get to number one.
I'd never seen him play before last night, but I was impressed. OK, so he struggled with his movement on the grass, but he's definitely not the first South American to do so! With his height, he obviously has a great serve, but he can belt the groundies too and isn't afraid to go to net. And as you say TLF, he seems to have a great temperament too. |

| Remember though that at 20 he has tremendous potential - he seems to be a fine young man in the mould of Nadal and Federer as far as court behaviour and respect for his opponents, and his tennis will only improve with experience and maturity - potential top 3 if he can remain injury free IMO |

Dear Lady - that's because Del Potro was ill and therefore could not prepare for Wimbledon. Not that it would have made
much of a difference. Juan at times looked like a goose against Lleyton, a former Wimbledon champ. Juan's got a long way to go before he can be considered a contender at Wimbledon. |

| We now know that del Potro has a way to go before he does really well on grass. Interesting that he didn't play any grass court tournaments before Wimbledon so had inadequate preparation. He also seemed to have difficulty with balance and footing. Could it also be that his attitude to playing Hewitt was similar to when he plays Federer - these players were his idols when he was growing up - hard to get his head around the fact he's now playing against them? |

True, but he was still good enough to come up with some solid wins after the Nadal victory (and every win counts - e.g. Seppi's win over Blake might not have happened if Blake was 100% fit, do you think he will continue to win?)
And maybe we should transfer to the "wimbledon thread" this is all roaming a bit from "Let's acknowledge del Potro" |

"Yes and a few weeks ago Nadal whipped Soderling 6-1 6-0.Gee looked what happened in the French Open to Nadal at the hands of Soderling.Everyone is beatable."
Soderling may of beaten Nadal at R.O., but I doubt that Nadal was anywhere near 100% fit, as shown by the result in the exhibition match against Hewitt. If he was fit I would highly doubt that Soderling would of got anywhere near him. |

| We will learn more about del Potro's ability on grass after he plays Hewitt. So far, he has only failed against the best players e.g. Federer and Nadal - once he has matured, mentally and physically, he can only improve. Only injury could prevent his rise to the top two or three in my opinion. |

At the Aus Open Federer defeated Del Potro 6-3 6-0 6-0 in 80 minutes.
I don't see Federer having any problems in the semi, but after watching Soderling play Davydenko, i would suggest that he is the most dangerous player to fed atm.
Gonzalez can be streaky when playing well, and he is atm, but clay isn't his surface and i would say a safer bet for Federer in Fed's attempt for a career grand slam.
I think Fed will take the tournament and have some real confidence going into Wimbledon.
What a change from last year! |

I just looked up the ATP website and yes Federererererererrrr
did beat Del Potro in Madrid two weeks ago obviously on clay, 6-4,6-3. The record stands at 5-0 to federerererererererer.
But the likes of grsydney should consider that was a best of 3 and the comparisons between playing ATP event and a grand Slam are huge. Don't forget what happened to Nadal. To use your words "expect the unexpected". |

Me too.
I think it will be good thing for tennis to have two new finalists like Robin and Juan. Also i'm sick and tired of the Federerererere GOAT brigade rhetoric. It's so old! |
