Well Said.... thanks from all of us who are not of a nasty nature...
Another point of view, is that who cares who is the greatest player of all... How can you measure it?
Its not what you achieve BUT how you achieve it...
Federer (and I dont idolise him... just appreciate his talent and on court behaviour) did it with such E A S E... having players ranked in the top ten shaking their heads, not knowing what to do next to try and win a set... let alone win the match...
Its how you do something, not how many times you do it..
As we all know its not what happens to you in life, its how you handle it that makes all the difference.
I still think 11yrs is too high... |

I wasn't making any statement at all. Merely posing the question as to Federer's stature in the game.
My friend, I too am not much of a Federer fan. However I respect other fans right to appreciate whomever they like and their views without becoming obnoxious. That's what these messageboards are supposed to be about.
So why get nasty?.
One other point: Rod Laver's Grand Slams - as extraordinary and impressive as they were. In 1962 and 1969, three of the four Grand Slams were contested on Lawn. Now of course each Slam is on different surface. Consequently I think that the next male player that wins a Grand Slam in one calender year, would be an even greater achievement than Laver.
Again my view. If you disagree let's see if you can respond without acting like an silly 11-year old schoolboy. |

| If there was a miracle and Federer were to win the French ,he does not deserve to called the greatest player of all time.Sampras owns 14 Slams so he is not greater than him.Laver owns 2 GRAND Slams so he is not greater than him.Agassi owns a career GRAND Slam and an Olympic Gold medal in men's singles so he is not greater than him.He will not even become the greatest player of the Open era.Think about what you are saying before you make such a stupid claim. You are the goat. [gloating over a trash statement] |

There's a lot at stake for Federer, as he is going for his first RG title and the 14th GS title. A victory at RG would proclaim him in the opinions of many tennis critics as the Greatest Player of All Time (GOAT).
Last week's win in Madrid over rival Rafael Nadal, should give Federer some renewed confidence to get the monkey off his back and win the french. So far Roger is a three time runner-up there.
so the question I ask is how far do others believe Roger will go this year ? Could there be an upset before the semis? Can Djokovic eliminate him in the SF? Will Nadal routine him once again in the final? Or will he finally, beyond all expectations, win the French Open?! |

Unilke Skip I didn't sit up and watch online. Have recorded Foxtel to watch tonight. Reading the accoutns and also seeing some video hightlights this morning RAfa put up a trong fight and during that first set you would never have known about any exhaustion as he was chasing shots around like crazy.
Bravo to Roger and hope this gives him the confidence he needs |

Phil - they didn't show it live on Fox so ended up watching it online....
Federer did well but Nadal wasn't really up to his normal standards. Considering how many hours he has spent on court recently, its a wonder the scoreline was 6-4, 6-4...
Anyhow, regarding the title of this thread, I'm sure Roger should be able to make it to another slam final although he will have either Murray or Djokovic on his side of the draw and they are very hungry to move up in the rankings.
So far this season, Roger has managed 1 Slam Final, 3 Masters 1000 SF plus the SF at Doha. Nice to see him win one at last although was bit disappointed with the trophy. A measly cake tray - yech, not really up to the usual spa.nish style (think that monstrous trophy in Barcelona!)
Wonder how the tennis season will finish this year? |

| I have been on an ocean cruise for a few days so I was not up with all the action.Having read about the Nadal/Djokovic match though it is easy to assume that Nadal was a bit tired.Congratulations to Fedex for winning. |

Wished I could've seen it on television.
Was Nadal showing affects of fatigue?
Not taking anything away from Federer but that scoreline is
unlike Nadal. But as i did not have Fox Sports this month I can not pass judgement. Anyone who believes Roger Federer is past his prime and won't win anymore titles should have a rethink! |

| Obviously everyone knew that ZB would be hiding in his hole somewhere so it was safe to come back without any abuse and stupid anti Federer comments. Thats what happens when you make idiotic predictions that RF will NEVER get to any final again not just a Grand Slam final |

Nadal came back the next day to face Roger in Melbourne this year after a gruelling 5 setter against Verdasco. I think he should have plenty left in the tank for this match against Roger.
For the Nadal fan (me lol) it is a bit of a worry that he had such a long match and must now play again the next day in the final. However, I think he has many things in his favour such as his superior fitness, 'never say die' attitude and most importantly when facing Federer, the mental advantage.
Hope his knees hold up :) |

| Unfortunately for Federer I cant see Nadal getting tired either,I've never seen someone who works as hard as Nadal for every point he plays which always makes for a fantastic game! |

Will Nadal be tired by the time he plays the final ? It's kind of like the Australian this year. I dare say No way Jose. He's a machine.
It will be hard to bet against Nadal. Here's hoping for another great match between these two.
Pity I can't see it on television but there could well be a website whereby one can view the match |

| I'm hoping that federer takes this one, he needs it to break the psychological hold that Rafa holds on him at the moment!! Good to see him have an easy win over DP last night although I did expect him to,can't see him beating Rafa yet...but I've got my fingers crossed!! lol |

ZB: "The pressure is now so great that the 2009 Australian Open Final was probably his last finals appearance, any finals"
Love to see you eating your words ZB. He IS in another final and a MAJOR at that.
You should stop making these kind of statemenst as you are so often proven wrong.
At least you are keeping away from the threads till Andy wins again |
