| What Rod laver accomplished is on a par with the feats of Don Bradman,Babe Ruth,Michael Jordan and Steffi Graf.Federer is a very good tennis player, you could even say great but he will never be a legend like the folks I just named.Even Tiger Woods for all his excellence is not a legend ...yet.I get very disappointed that a number of ignorant people try to discount the unbelievable achievements of the great Rod Laver.I really don't see whether it matters if he played on four different surfaces ,three, two or just one.The thing to get through your stupid head is that he won the 4 Slams in four different countries in the one calender year against the best players in the world. He did it when he was 24 years old.He did it again when he was 31 years old. Please have some respect for the greatest player to play the game of tennis. And he proved it. |

Gday all,I quite often read this tennis site,so whilst I very rarely contribute to it,I do find it interesting. This question doing the rounds about Federer being the best ever, should I feel be left until his brilliant career is over.At the moment it really can't be answered.Personally I think he will be.Now the question I have,is A Grand Slam now better than in Lavers days? The reason I ask this is if memory serves me, the four majors used to be on less different surfaces. The Australian open was played on grass, not hardcourt.I'm not sure what the surface for the US open was.(I was told once that it was grass as well. This I don't know)So If Laver was an excellent player on grass surfaces, then he only had to change to Clay once a year.Which would make the Grand Slam much more achievable would it not.Can someone please verify what the surfaces were in Lavers days please.
Cheers Dave. |

| Today's players are too nice and sweet. It would be nice if they criticized eachother from time to time. Makes for good drama. I was too young to see Connors and Mcenroe but what great personalities they had. Shame there aren't any dynamic personalities in tennis. |

sorry Piccolo,
I was sending emails under that id...and didn't sign out back to the sports boards.
Anyway I will finish this little ti.t for tat with this.
Federer has been the best player in the modern game without a doubt.
To say he is the best ever is debatable.
I will change my mind on this if he wins a "Grand Slam"...an achievement that Rod Laver has done twice...Federer not once. |

| Well if Federer keeps on winning, maybe yes but Rafa is in his peak right now and probably will keep his number 1 ranking until the end of this year. Roger will remain in number 2 position. |

ZB This is what Agasssi said:
"What Laver did is god-like," he said." He was talking about Laver not Federer. Just read what is said and don't twist into what you think is said.
Agasssi also said" it was Federer's destiny to win this and that he deserved it." |

The theory looks sound, I hope you're right - because I think there is a very good chance that both could happen.
Federer will enter Wimbledon as confident as ever and Nadal has injury/fitness concerns that may stall his progress.
I don't really care, they are my 2 favourite players and a 1-2 finish either way is fine by me! |

haha im pretty sure but i could be wrong..
wimbledons points are f 2000 rp 1200 semi 720
right now nadal is at 13140
fed is at 11070
if fed wins he'll get to 11870
if nadal loses in the semi he'll lose about 1280 points.. i think which should put him at 11860
soo fed would be up by 10 points (but im prolly worng) lol
some 1 correct me if im wrong |

Are you sure that will be enough for the #1 ranking? I was under the impression Federer would need to win Wimbledon, Rafa miss out fairly early, and then Roger would have to win a few masters titles and the US Open to finish the year ahead.
Could be wrong, but that is what I heard. |
