You get me into trouble with the teacher Sushi.
Back to Federer - yes, you hear so many rival players bag the likes of Novak for various reasons. But Federer and Nadal have maintained a genuine grace and class with their success. And they have the utmost respect for each other. |

| I agree with you entirely on Federer, nye. Many people seem to think he is arrogant - opinion formed only through snippets of on-court or post-match interviews - but have you ever heard other players do other than commend him? I doubt it. |

It is all down to perception. I don't see any arrogance at all in Federer. I applaud his humilty, despite his obvious talent - it can't be easy keeping grounded like that.
I also love what he does for the game and away from the court with his charity work (above and beyond the required stuff the ATP want him to do).
But if you don't like someone, you will always see flaws (and vice versa). I know I am highly critical of Novak, yet others think the sun shines from his jaxy. |

| Yes that is the primary reason I do not like Federer .He lost his humility and started being less than gracious to his opponents.Which one of him was real.I think he really is a jerk who plays great tennis. |

| i hope not, if he went back to his 2006 character then yes, i personally feel that he has turned into a bit of a arrogant jerk, some of the comments he has made, excuses for not playing his best, he never used to do that, he used to be supportive of other players and say when they played well, and he used to say, oh well i don't feel like i played my best out there, instead of excuses, i don't mean to offend anyone, i guess i have just been a bit dissapointed with how his attitude has changed, i miss the old federer, gracious, humble |

| I take my hat off to you barbique. Not because you agree with the point of view I have consistently maintained since joining these threads but also the eloquent way you explained it. Even grsydney would find it hard to beat your argument if he could only beat his desire to always be wrong. |

Yes, the Aussie open is a Grand Slam EVENT - Ie, it is one of the 4 tournaments that make up the Grand Slam of tennis.
Like the Sydney Invitational is an ATP event, one of the tournaments that make up the ATP tour.
Commentators referring the AO as a 'slam' are just being a little lazy. |

Actually, the Grand Slam is the COMBINATION of the four major events, ie. Australian, French and US Opens, and Wimbledon.
Each event is PART of the Grand Slam, but neither one on its own is a Grand Slam.....and most commentators don't make that clear. |
