| How people can be some blind...Federer has been supreme for 4.5 years...untouchable...des troyed everyone...now he has to re-invent himself, just like Ali did in his comeback in 1971 and Tiger Woods after spending 2 years without a grand slam titles (people also wrote him off...and he is coming back again to wipe the grass with everyone). The most important point in all this Federer quest to recover his status is that he knows what is wrong - no coach!!! I bet you all that once Nadal loses to Federer twice he will be the one completely lost mentally. Lets not forget that Nadal is a bruiser, ugly style, effective though, but despite his 6 Grand Slams he can indeed lose to lower raking players who uses similar style to that of his...those players cannot beat Federer in normal circumstances. We people appreciate sportsmen who comes from zero to reclaim their status - Ali, Tiger, George Foreman...this current situation in Federer's career is in fact a great opportunity for him to once and for all to cement him in the very top of greatness, by coming back and beat Nadal in Grand Slams finals...it will happen, Federer has a new coach and an excellent one and guess what...once Federer beat Nadal, the latter will be so desperate to beat the former again that he will compromise his knees even further and then it will be the end of Mr Byceps and his maronic bunch of fans who love to discredit Federer. |

I would consider Nadal to having legend status atm. His legacy v Federer in GS finals including the last French, Wimbledon & aust open could arguably lend him this, not to mention his dominance over the clay season.
However I am supposing by legendary you mean contention for GOAT, in which case - yes a lot more proving yet. |

bspryer - I would have to agree with you that Nadal still has work to do before attaining legend status but he is hardly 'new talent'.
Nadal is one of only four men to have won a Grand Slam singles title on grass, clay and hard courts (the other being Wilander, Agassi and Connors). Plus he is tied with Borg in French Open titles - no doubt will surpass that record this season. He is also the first male player to simultaneously hold GS titles on 3 different surfaces.
If he plays his cards right this season, he could have a reasonable chance of attaining a calendar year Grand Slam. He probably won't hold up physically but he is the only player in recent times with a realistic chance of doing so. |

| nadal has a long way to go before "legend" status...let's don't confuse new talent with sustainability- and as for A-Rod-a phenomenon but perhaps not a lasting talent... |

Is there any truth to the rumour that Federer will be appointing Darren "killer" Cahill as his new coach and fitness
advisor? |

| Federer is gone mentally just like Borg lost it back in '81. His self invented aura has been shattered and even if he wins another major he will be remembered for being owned by Nadal and being destroyed in French Open Slam finals.Even if he does win ,he can't win in the eyes of tennis historians because he choked at the final hurdle. |

| they really do have a lot in common in terms of style and game plan-players like Nadal, Murray and other newcomers have re-introduced strategies that have been missing and should be welcomed! glad to hear you've done a bit of time on the court! |

LOL. PLayed a bit in my time. Didn't say Sampras wasn't great. His record speaks for itself.
I'm saying his style wasn't what i liked to watch and i personally think Federer is the better player. Just my opinion. |
