..in the interview clip I saw, Andy said illness was not a factor in his defeat..."I had my chances and he just played better"..is my recollection of his words.
perhaps it was a factor...whether or not he realises it himself...but "gracious in defeat" is a mark of fine sportsmanship... |

oph rubbish.
TA would've been very anxious to keep one of the brightest most gifted shotmakers in the tournament.
Boy am I still hot!!! I felt so sure it was Muzza's tournament. |

yes Muzza did look red in the face in the fifth set.
I also believed the score of the match, Verdesco def. Murray, 2-6,6-1,1-6,6-3,6-4 was odd.
If he was ill why didn't Muzza request for one day postponent?.
Tennis australia aren't monsters you know, and I'm sure players are entitled to one. |

| It is public knowledge in the States that he had been suffering from a cold.It stands to reason a guy who has been playing that good who gets up 2 sets to 1 and then loses must have suffered some sort of meltdown. |

I don't know Zedhead.
Fernando looked pretty sharp. If you were to blend Volkov's powerful left handed serve and flat groundstrokes, with Nadal's top spin groundies and true grit mentality, you could have potentially another champion.
What do you mean "head cold?". Are you implying that Muzza had one and therefore was not able to be at his best yesterday? I know Muzza said in one of his press conferences he had been ill "the past few days". Where did you get that information from?
Eleborate? |

Speaking of Spaniards, there are quite a few of them on tour - along with French and Russian players.
I agree with you about Verdasco - a good player, but not one of the top. |

| You would too if you had a head cold.Verdasco is overated. Tsonga has got too much talent for the boring spaniard. |

do not be suprised if Verdasco beats Tsonga.
Muzza had difficulty reading Verdasco's big left handed serves and I reckon so will Tsonga in the quarterfinal. |

| People forget that prior to Fedex being number one , Roddick was. What irks me the most though is that jerks like you don't give him credit for playing in 3 Slam finals against Federer ,When no one else was stepping up to have a go ,Roddick did.He was the only consistent competition that Federer had until Nadal came along. Roddick simply lost his desire to get in a Slam final after he lost to Fedex at the 2006 U.S Open final. He is only 26 which is more than your i.q dipstick. |

| What is so good about Andy Roddick? He's been playing for about a million years and has only won one Grand Slam?? Am I right? Anyway, the only way he wins is by pulling an ace or smash shot out of the bag when he needs it most. hardly one of the most skilled players on tour. |

| Fedex is not as dominant as he used to be, particularly in the tie-breaks. Having said that ,most things in life go in waves or trends and I think the style that has won him 13 Slams is being counteracted by a number of new players. His days as a top 5 player are numbered. |

zedhead,
this reminds me. on "taday at the open" a fox sports program.
they had Newcombe and Pat Rafter on the program.
now accordingly to Newcombe who watched Federer's match with Berydch, he thinks Federer is now "half a step" slower
in his movement around the court.
Newcombe believes, Fed has lost key matches in 2008 by players pinning Fed 2-3 metres behind the baseline.
In the glory days, 2003-2008, Fed used to play from the baseline and would rarely be pinned behind the baseline the way he does now.
This was very evident to me too watching the match versus Berydch (particularly in the first 3 sets) that Fed was lucky to have won it. |

Nadal looks trim, fitter than ever, focussed & it is going to take someone really on their game to outmuscle him. (especially if it's hot)
For the women you could pick 3 & be wrong but Dinara Safina also looks fit, more mature & has self belief that she has not had previously. (But saying that, I obviously want Jelena Dokic to beat her in the quarters!)
I'll be watching here in Mexico on Australia Day which will be Tuesday down there. |
