Let's just hope that the patrons get their money's worth, not like the debacle in the women's.

Re:WHO WILL WIN THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN ? Reply to this message
There seems to be consensus out there that if Fedex wins it is due to Nadal's fatigue.

I agree grsydney. I am supporting Nadal to win that is for sure but he is a professional sportsman with a professional recovery team behind him. Fatigue cannot be used as an excuse.

If Federer does win the title it will be due to fatigue on Nadal's part"

Skip I find that extraordinary coming from you.

Whoever wins will be the best man on the night and deserves the win with no recriminations no excuses and no justification

so if Fed wins the tournament and grsydney and others say something like "tee hee Zed" "tee hee Zed" and all that other Federer is GOAT rhetoric, you won't be striking back, huh?!

Re:WHO WILL WIN THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN ? Reply to this message
Nadal has extended his way superior ability on clay to a superior game on grass and now as the number one player in the world,he will continue his domination of Federer from a psychological point of view.Federer can't win because Nadal owns him just the way Fedex owns Roddick.

Tee hee yourself.Because his guy is not beating my guy.He has had his little spray already with Roddick.I mean you can't lose much supporting Fedex but I need to support someone with more appeal than a crash test dummy.

Personally, I'm going for Federer - simply because I love the history involved with a 14th title.

I like both players and will not be upset either way. They are both great to watch and have both changed the way the game is played.

Nyeninch - just had a look at the weather forecast, currently 23 degrees with a high of 28, humidity 68%. Don't think that roof will be closed which might even things out a bit.

Agree with your first comment too, it is definitely unfair all round.

One thing is for sure, this final is an org.an.iser's dream and one the tennis world has been begging for since Wimbledon.

Who are you hoping will take the title?

Re:WHO WILL WIN THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN ? Reply to this message
It is a no-win situation for Federer. If he beats Nadal it will be because of "fatigue". That's unfair on both players.

Federer has been playing much better at night that during the day, I'd say Nadal's most impressive performances have been the opposite.

So a night final may suit Federer, not Nadal - especially if the roof gets closed.

Re:WHO WILL WIN THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN ? Reply to this message
It's a shame that Verdasco wore down Nadal but Nadal is very fit and I think has better than average chance to win this title.

Found this interesting article on Tennis.com which offers some good insights on Nadal's SF and the upcoming final. Take out the space.

http://tennisworld.typepad.com/thewrap/2009/01/oz- the-duel-goe.html

It raises some interesting points.

For example, the last 2 matches Federer played were against an 'overwhelmed' Del Potro and (not my words) 'his personal whipping boy, Andy Roddick'.....

Also, Federer doesn't play the same against Nadal as he does against everyone else. Nadal has a definite pyschological edge over Federer.

The article also mentions that the courts play slower at night which should surely favour Nadal.

Federer should be thanking his lucky stars that Nadal's SF went on for so long although I am sure he would have rather played Verdasco. I am not putting down Verdasco as he has proved he is more than capable to putting in a stellar performance. However, Federer doesn't have that 'mental' thing with Verdasco that he seems to have with Nadal and now perhaps, Murray.

If Federer does win the title it will be due to fatigue on Nadal's part.

As for Nadal's semi-final, it was a murderous brawl from start to finish.

No I won't give grsydney a spray if Fedex loses which is what I think will happen.I am not a big Nadal fan but you have to admire the guy's tenacity.I don't think Federer can come back against a very good player from 2 sets to love down if the other player is still playing pretty well.

I think for sure what everyone of you are forgetting is that by the age of 22 Nadal has already been in 8 Slam finals and has won at least 5 of them.Federer had none ,zilch ,zero, nought Slam final appearances let alone any Slam titles at the same age.Even he can keep it up Nadal will easily overhaul Federer's Slam total.

Re:WHO WILL WIN THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN ? Reply to this message
No contest - I want Nadal to win cos I am so bored of Federer!

I desperately didn't want Serena to make the final for the same reason. Whenever Federer or Serena make the finals - we normally get boring one sided finals.

And I think Seven is overhyping the possibility the men's final will be as brilliant as the Nadal-Verdasco SF - just because Federer and Nadal had a brilliant final at last years Wimbledon.

and just like all the luck that went Serena's way towards the championship - Federer had his fair share too!

He should have been out in round of 16 - Berdych had him heading for the exit until that stupid "hawkeye wasn't working but trust me i am an official and saw the whole thing in between glasses of champagne in the corporate VIP tent".

This years Open will be best remembered for the extreme heat and Tilley's gobsmackingly stupid decisions re the roof.

The bias shown towards Federer and Serena

The groans from Channel 7 execs for following Hewitt's demands for a daytime match and watching their no. 1 drawcard out the door in the first round!
(And a side note - Djokovic asking for a night match after finishing his 4R match until 3:30 am being flatly rejected!
Tilley to Djokovic - I don't care if you are defending champion - the only person we allow to choose their timeslot is Hewett!!!)

The sudden love for Jelena Dokic -ESPECIALLY By Tennis Australia who treated her like dirt over the past few years - and watching her play brilliantly until losing in 3S in the QF.

The BRILLIANT 5 set 5hour + Mens SF between Verdasco and Nadal - easily the best match of this years open - and a hard match to beat by the other Grand slams this year!

The absolutely pathetic 59 minute Women's F tonight - which SHOULD bring the "equal prizemoney" argument back to the decision table!

It's supposed to be "equal pay for equal work" - not "equal pay cos I'm a woman"
