I'm talking about the year Federer beat him and Roddick got about 4 games in total.

Roddick had a very determined opponent in Melbourne that year and was unlucky to lose.Watch him this year.

Like Roddick did prior to the Aus Open - he had defeated Federer at Kooyong then got wiped in the real deal. Murray has been doing serious work to improve his fitness - only time will tell if he can last out the best of five matches in a Slam against the likes of Nadal and co.

I'm sure that Federer and Nadal played the best they could but Murray has had a long break from tennis as well so give him a break. It doesn't matter whether it's an exhibition or a real tournament ,these guys want to gain a psychological edge anyway they can.At this stage Murray has that edge.

Nah, what codswallop. Murray just won a 2/3 set exhibition event. Granted that he beat Federer and Nadal but both top seeds are just returning to the tour after being injured.
Also the Australian open will be 3/5 set and a real test on Murray's (and all the players) fitness and stamina. Murray so far has not been consistent enough in the Grand Slams. |

Indeed he would be ZedStar but we all saw what happened to Andy Murray at the Tennis Masters cup. He can get erratic. I suppose it depends on if he can keep himself calm and not to waste up valuable nervous energy by getting all hyped up. Murray was able to do this at the recent Abu Dhabi exhibition. Hopefully he'll learn from this.

Murray would have to be the favourite at this stage based on his consistent performances.I like Tsonga but he seems to get erratic on occasions.I am following Qatar closely and hoping that Roddick finds the form he had early last year.

Anyways, I really hope it will be Sharapova as I'm aware she's been out of tennis for quite a while because of some injury. It would be a great comeback story if she could comeback after 5-6 months and win. Heaven knows Women's tennis needs a shot in the arm!

I'm afraid I'm into a different body type. Nothing to do with the tennis but I would rather Drew Barrymore than Maria Sharapova. Has a bit to do with their personality though.

I see where your coming from peenpong. Federer back at his best and there will be no stopping him. Nadal won't be able to get back to his best for quite a few months. That leaves it up to all the new comers. It could depend a lot on the draw. If someone can take Federer out early, than it's just a matter of whoever wants it the most. If it comes down to that and Murray is still in contention, I'd be tipping him to do it. He has the hunger, as well as the consistency at present to pull it off. It would be a great rematch if the final was between the 2. Especially if Federer was back at his best. He simply outplayed Murray at the US Open. The experience left Murray for dead. And that title meant so much to him that the simple fact was "I'm not going to lose a match in the tournament!!"

bernie
I am not about to predict who might win the Oz Open other than to say I think it will be a player who has never won Oz Open or any other open for that matter, before.
As we do not know the status on Federer or Nadal ... that leaves a youngster or Roddick to have a crack at the first Open of the year. |

Thats an interesting choice ZB. I would have thought he was getting a bit long in the tooth to get past the likes of someone as skillful and immaculate on court as Federer.
