Having seen his performance at Kooyong - don't think he's quite ready this year - good but not good enough.

Verdasco is the new kid on the block and will be the one to watch with interest as he moves up the rankings. Last year it was all eyes on Murray, Del Potro and Simon. This talented guy is well on his way to joining them

I'm putting my money on Valdasco - just to make it interesting. He has a great game and could sprint up on the outside while no-one is looking. Good luck to him. He's not hard to look at either.

Djokovic should have beaten Nieminen. This guy is a journeymen who has won only one singles title in his life. Djokovic must be having second thoughts about his new brand of racket.

It's impossible to tell. But seriously, I hate screamers like Sharapova. It just makes the match unpleasant to watch.

It's getting interesting already.Davydenko is injured so is Tsonga.Murray appears to have a bit of a back problem that might be tested by a long campaign.Nadal is definitely not at his best yet.Philipp Kohlschreiber has just forfeited a match. Hopefully Del Potro is over his toe problem from late last year.Marco Bagdhatis seems a shadow of his former self.Boy, are things going to get interesting.

I remember Seles having a grunt. It does take away from things a bit but Sharapova is such a great player to watch when she is fighting for the match.

My objection to her shrieking is that it is tactics, not really needed - watch her practice matches - no noise - her shrieks are actually a form of cheating (same as all the others) the shriek/grunt stops the opponent from hearing the sound as the ball is struck and therefore disguising the type of shot. Watch a match live and you will understand.

MON... better to watch and listen to her ridiculous shrieking and preening than watching the ridiculous shrieking and preening of the Indian cricket team I reckon.

I am very envious of all you lucky people who live in Melbourne and have a chance to catch the Aussie Open live.I get the impression that there is no one on these threads who resides in Melbourne.I will be watching it over here in California which sounds pretty neat but living in Australia, particularly Melbourne is hard to beat.

Murray is going to be hard to beat as are the usual suspects.A generational change will happen in the next few months.Federer will lose more than he wins but it will be at hands of a few players. He is a hunted man because there are a number of players on the way up that he has beaten a few times and they want revenge.

I think Murray could do what Sookavich did last year - lose to Federer in the US Open final before storming through to the Aus Open title.
Though Federer is always tough and No-heart will be keen to go back-to-back.
I would say this title is the most open in years, a few can put their names up there as genuine chances. |

Sorry to say, but that was nothing but a horrible, horribe choke by Stosur today. It's sad that someone can work so hard to achieve something, then let fear get the best of them at the crucial moment.

The Fed is on fire and is still well on track to get the Australian Open title back to add to his grand slam total. Look out Sampras he is on the way.
Monfils sure caused an upset last night and is playing some of the best tennis I have seen hom play in a long time. Nadal was shell shocked |
