| He's still doing "impersonations". Not quite the same ones. Impersonating that he's injured, needs the trainer, has to have a break. I bet he has been practising them. I wonder if they have that on youtube. :) |

And from his post match interview my favourite answer as it has such a wonderfully true double meaning. Answering both items with the two words:
Q. Last year the crowds loved you. You were doing the impersonations.
NOVAK DJOKOVIC: Not anymore. (laughter.) |

Whoever Novak plays in the QF - Gonzalez or Roddick - he'll be absolutely worn out. Two big matches have really taken it out of him.
As Kraavitz said, he dodged a massive bullet today but can he do it again? He hurt his hip, rolled the ankle, stomach and breathing problems combined with 5 sets. Don't know if could last against an in-form Roddick (he is playing very well this tournament). Novak has put in a lot of hours on court with his last two matches.

And one for the Novak lovers - first photo has the thought bubble removed, however it stated: "Insert Brain Here"

"Wow, whatta guy"
I know, that is what James Blake and a host of other ATP players are saying in the locker rooms these days. They just love Nole, so much so that James even went to give him a hug after losing the bronze medal play off match

I think he was just being really generous and sharing the love he has for his fellow players. I like how he even let Nadal borrow his gold medal for the shot....
After all, one only has to go to his website to know that he is the 'Best Serbian Player' as well as the '3rd ranked Player OF THE WORLD'.. And just in case you missed it, he'll remind you of it in every article....
Wow, whatta guy |

I don't get it...Why is the self proclaimed best player in the world standing on the right hand side in the top shot? I am sure this was just a practical joke he was playing on the world by swapping with the guy in the middle for some photos.

Thanks for the correction len. Yes 1700 is correct for those 2 grand slams. Djokovic really has to step up to the plate now. Let his raquet do the talking. Not his mouth or his box watching the matches. He had no Federer at the start of this year and Nadal hadn't hit his straps either. There really was no-one else to rival him. If Federer is back, he won't buckle under Djokovic. He seems to go into every match against Novak with an attitude of "your going down".
We do have our young semi-finalist who played Federer at Roland Garros who would well and truly rock Djokovic's boat. A long as he can stay injury free.
Rafa will need to prove himself over the the next 6 to 8 months over the rest of the hardcourt season. This is the only area he has to tame now. I would love to see Federer back though so he has the competition to make it just that little bit harder. |

Bernie, you have made a minor error - however believe I understand what your intent was in meaning: Djokovic has two very good GS results to back up in quick succession - a US Open final (700 points) and an Aust Open win (1000 points), therefore 1700 rather than 2000.
I feel the next six months are going to be an acid test for Djokovic as this will show whether he has matured with the pressure from being "the challenger / next big thing" to the "true champion". He can no longer claim that he is the new kid. He has a GS Final, a GS win, a number of MS titles etc. in the past 12 months. He needs to start backing up some of these results if he is as good as he purports to be and keeps on telling anyone who will listen, that he is.
I don't doubt that he will win another GS title, however I just don't think it will be with the regularlity of Roger or Pete - i.e. all year round. Maybe more like a Safin or Kafelnikov or Hewitt. I cannot class Rafa in here as yet (re: regularity of a champion YOY) as he has only had a stellar 2008 season and now needs to back this up in 2009. Previously he only came good during the clay season for "consistent" big wins and petered off after Wimbledon. |

| Have a look at the stats twisted. Djokovic can't make it to No. 1 in the world for about 8 months unless both Federer and Nadal retire. Nadal has hardly any points to protect towards the end of this season and they have about the same over the first 4 months next year. Djokovic has 2 Grand Slam titles to protect. 2000 points in total. Nadal has only 600 to protect for those 2 in total. Djokovic won't win both of them. He's going to drop at least 500 points + overall. All Nadal needs to do is make both semi's or a quarter and the final to stay ahead of him. Djokovic had a great start to 2008 as well. 2 Masters titles and 2 semi-finals for a total of 1700 points. Without any other events included, he has 2700 at the start of next year and about 1000 for the rest of this year. Good luck with your prediction. |
