One thing I do have reservations about is paying any of these players, Kerr, Cuzz, Lovett any huge money and/or long deals. Hope the club sees it that way too and find something just as sweet but better for the club.

I've got me fingers crossed.

Re:Daniel Kerr ... Reply to this message
I'm with gt, swans have the basics of a champion team and just need to top up with some quality, if they decide on a youth policy now then say goodnight to Jolly, Hall, Micky O, Jude, Kirk, Barry (gone after 09), Kennelly (same as Barry), Craig Bolton, and yes Goodes also, Crouch, Buchanan maybe, that is an awful lot of quality list that won't be around possibly in 4 years time. Add Kerr, Cousins and Lovett and lose ROK, Davis and maybe one other and you still have the potential to win a flag if the big names can stay on the park.

Re:Daniel Kerr ... Reply to this message
I understand your viewpoint gt, but to me, this finals series confirmed that the Cats and Hawks are in front, then the Dogs, with daylight after that.

Pains me to say it, but it's time to bite the bullet and realise we don't have the squad to win a flag in the next two or three years. Take a lesson from Hawthorn (as every club should), and build a team. Use the experience of the players you mentioned to bring through the next gen.

Re:Daniel Kerr ... Reply to this message
Fair call 00 but do you think that Kirk, Goodes, Hall, Jolly etc are gonna be at their peak when our new youngens mature and improve enough to take us/them to a granny.

We got to a semi with a weary old Spida and after having a lousy season with the Hall and Goodes sagas, surely some good top ups and we could push further next season.

I do see merit in what you've said but have my doubts as the door will close very quickly, it's now or take anything from 5-74 years to win another granny.

at the risk of sounding like a broken record...

If they release ROK, keep the two draft picks!

More Kerr talk :-

Media speculation tonight, a deal that would cut ROK free but give the Swans 2 1st round draft picks that could be traded off for Kerr.

Hmmm, reckon he'd be ok, we could still be a force by just bolstering what we are lacking. Wouldn't want the Goodes, Kirk, Bolton, Hall window of opportunity to close.

Re:Daniel Kerr ... Reply to this message
Stay away from Kerr too!

Get Goodes fit below the shoulders, get Baz fit above the shoulders, continue to develop Jack, McVeigh, Bird, Veszpremi et al, get some decent youngsters, and go again next year. I know they're worried about the fan base dropping off if they have a couple of bad years, but they can't keep stretching this rubber band of year-to-year success for much longer.

cont ...

However, the Sydney Swans coach ruled out picking up ex-Melbourne player Jeff White.

“I don’t think so,” he said. “There was a little bit written on the weekend. Jeff still has something to offer AFL footy. I think he is a good player and he is only 31. I think from our point of view, probably not. You would have to relocate him from Melbourne and we have Daniel Curry who is a young ruckman coming up and Jake Orreal.”

Daniel Kerr ... Reply to this message
from sydneyswans.com :-

SYDNEY Swans coach Paul Roos says that the club won’t be speaking to players such as West Coast Eagles star Daniel Kerr and Collingwood forward Alan Didak while they are contracted to other clubs.

Both players have been touted as possible trade bait with the Sydney Swans linked to Kerr, but Roos was adamant that the club wouldn’t be approaching contracted players unless their respective clubs gave the go ahead.

“He [Daniel Kerr] a contracted player and until we hear anything different we won’t do anything,” Roos said.

“If they [West Coast] were to say that they weren’t interested in keeping him or wanted to trade him or whatever we would certainly look at him because he is a quality player and it is certainly very hard to come across those guys.

“At this stage we are not hearing other than he is contracted next year and I believe they are in negotiations so we will wait and see.”

Roos did admit that securing a quality player such as Kerr could be the difference between the Swans succeeding next year or not.

“A top shelf player makes a big difference we know that. Our best midfielder was playing full-forward on Friday night because he was not capable of playing in the midfield. Now, Adam Goodes in the midfield makes us a very different football team. If you are able to get a quality player from another club then it will make you a different football team. These are decisions you have to weigh up and determine as a footy club.”

Didak too is another player who the Sydney Swans would be interested in if he became available.

“Alan is probably similar to Kerr,” Roos said. “He is contracted to Collingwood but if Alan became available would we talk to Collingwood about him? Yes, we probably would. We talk amongst ourselves first but he is another quality player but at this stage he is a contracted Collingwood player and out of respect for Collingwood we wouldn’t be talking to Alan unless we got ...
