Exactly kasih.
I hold the Powers Chad Cornes in such high regard its unbelievable. I think he will end his career as one of the best of his time. But that does not mean I am going to prant about in forums such as this an label him a superstar! For mine he is in the top 3 AFL players and he is never beaten in a game. Can play both ends of the ground and cut up the Centre as well.
But, in around 6 years time when he hangs up his boots we can all go and properly assess him. I will do that then too. I´m hoping Superstar is a word a can use for him :-) |

portadelaide1870, I agree that words like superstar and champion are bandied about too much by people in the media these days.
If the sole reason the author of this thread had for starting this thread was because it should be left till the end of a player's career to make those kind of calls, than they needed to talk about every player who is around 24, 25, and gets the tag of superstar.
As it is, they've simply singled Riewoldt out for unjustified criticism and abuse. |

Decent player....not a superstar.
Come back in 8 years to make that proper judgment. Superstar is reserved for the elite. Please don´t offend the real legends and superstars of the AFL by including a 24yo in the same breath as them. Let him play his footy and assess his status or title in a few more years eh? |

Nick Riewoldt is 24 years old.
Has won three club Best and Fairests to date.
Has won the Rising Star award.
Has Won the MVP award.
Has been All Australian twice.
Has kicked 70+ goals in a season.
Has taken the most marks ever in a season of AFL.
Has lead the competition in marks in more than one season, including contested marks.
Was drafted as a tall midfielder, yet can play as a forward and as a defender.
Patrick Smith made the comment that St Kilda could win a flag with Nick Riewoldt playing like he does at CHB.
Is being used as the linkman between the mids and the forwards, hence the reason he does not kick as many goals as, say, a J. Brown, who is leaning more towards being a full-time full forward.
Goals cannot be used as a measure of his performance. He is everywhere on the ground, and runs further than any other forward in the game.
Is one of the more courageous players in the game. Not because he throws his weight around and intimidates other players.
Because he continually puts his body on the line, cops a hit, and never complains.
Take a look at his marking from this year alone. He has no fear.
Is not having a good year by his standards, having missed games through injury, yet for the last 8 or so weeks has been superb.
Get your facts straight. And go after a player who actually deserves some criticism.
/end rant |

| If Reiwolt was a superstar he would have won the game for them, aren't we forgetting that Saints were over 20 points ahead in the first quarter? |

| So, what do you know? Who was the star for Saints in their close defeat by West Coast. SURPRISE! Nick Reiwoldt. Just so you know next time to make a relevant comment, he rated number one last night and on most occasions, he's a STAR! |

| this statement is utter bull. Nick Reiwoldt is a SUPERSTAR, one of the best players in the competition. He is without a doubt the best contested mark in the competition and not only does he mark and kick goals he leads up teh ground as well. He is facinating, skillful player who is a joy to watch. He has won St. Kilda so many games and without him we would be no where near where we are on the ladder at the moment. He plays nearly every game double teamed and is pushed in teh pack and chopped on teh arms in nearly every contest and he still gets BOG. People like you don't notice the amount of work a player like him does and why thats winning us games. He is one of the best players going around and if anything i think ppl aren't giving him enough credit. |

| ominous: That would depend what kind of defenders you have. If you have anyone remotely tall on him you'd rather him try and take the pack marks over your tall timber. He's much less likely to get that mark then he is to be able to set something up from the wing. |

| I disagree. Players who aren’t playing well up forward move up the ground to get a touch on the ball and try to get into the game. He does it every week. If I was the opposition coach and player I’d rather he get cheap ones on the wing then make a contest in the forward line. |

Riwoldt hasn't had a good season on the goal-kicking front. Then again, neither have any of the Saints. Its been a dry season. He's done well in past years, except the one where he got taken out in round 1.
The reason that he gets good comments is that he is good enough to lead out so far and continue doing it. If any opponents could match him these 'easy' chestmarks would be stopped. From there he can usually help to set the play up.
Although he hasn't done overly well this season he always puts in a solid effort and that is what makes him a good player. |

| I hate watching St Kilda games for the fact that Nick Riewoldt is not a star like he is being portrayed. He is not that good. He has only managed to kick 35 goals this season. Barely. He takes a simple mark out in front and the commentators go "What a superb mark". Also any player in the AFL can take 15 marks out on the wing. Matthew Richardson has being it for years. Players do it every week. It’s not a big deal. Anthony Rocca has kicked more then he has and he cops it every week about his performances. He has only kicked three more the Travis Cloke who is only playing his first year as a key forward abnd couldn't kick to save his life in the first 10 rounds. Nick has been into it for years now. He should be up around 60 goals with Jonathan Brown, Pavlich, Fevola and Franklin plus Lloyd. These players have also missed games this year. Look at Brown, Llyod, Barry Hall, Lucas and Rocca. All have missed games this year through injury and suspension. |
