He was played at 40% fit in the Elimination final against Melbourne in 2006 and it was an absolute digrace. The worst player management decision i've seen in a long time. He had a bandage wrapped around his leg from his foot to his thigh like a spiral staircase.
Some if not most of the blame for his carreer ending early and the amount of time he missed through injury rests fairly and squarely with the former coach of the club who was rightfully sacked after that match.
His own inability to admit to himself that he was not fit to play is also part of it - Australian Rules Fopotball is not the kind of sport where you can pretend to be tough and play when you're not really fit enough to. You have to be at least 90 to 95% fit now.

Hamill at his peak wasn't a great player but a very good one but one thing did stand out, he was a great protector when captain and this must've had a marked influence on the young guys coming up who are now in the 100+ games bracket. Maybe he may become John Elliotts body guard, that I admit is tongue in cheek, I don't think it would be a harmonious employer, employee relationship.

Apparently Aaron Hamill is expected to announce his retirement this week.

He is a clear reminded of how good footballing careers can be ended when they are starting to look good, all because of a reccuring injury.

A positive to come out of this is that it is expected to clear up some salary cap space which will allow us to keep goose maguire, as well as be able to chase a couple others down if we need to.
