Dan$%#s - I have posted on this thread a number of times, topics related more to the whole ALeague than just victory.
Its a difficult one with Mancinio, he has had some flashes of brilliance - yet is very inconsistent in front of goal. Too many Mancinio shots end up in the second tier of Suncorp in my opinion to be a starter. I still favour starting with Reinaldo, and 2 or 3 of the youngsters up front - if fully fit. Eventually, the layoffs from Reinaldo will work for the speedsters who will invariably score.
Sydney were well outplayed by Roar 2 weeks ago, and I am confident Frank and the boys will get some sort of result for Suncorp the following week.
Bring it on Sydney |

I would love to see Marcinho starting as a striker for the roar this week. I think he is the most likely to score.
I was too lazy to start a new post! |

Forgive me for my previous self indulgence..
So we have sorted out who is the most consistant..and you know what I'm happy that it was Central Coast..
But let's get to the people's decider..the winner of the grand final..and I'm sticking by my previous prediction that it's going to be a sydney and roar grand final..
And the winner of this..and If I've gotta pick one of the two..it would be sydney...
Joel Griffiths..great stuff...the scoring machine... |

I've just read that Archie Thompson is saying that the no show in the finals campaign for victory is going to prove costly in his quest to play for the national team..And he is right..Look, I personally believe that his form this year has not been upto the standards that he set last year...well..it would be hard to match his feats of last year actually..but in saying that I have watched him in recent weeks and he has missed goals that perhaps in the previous year he would have scored...
This weekends game against sydney could be an opportunity to step up to the archie of the previous year..were it seemed the ball was on a string for me...score goals..
Or if that fails he still has opportunity in the socceroos training camps...this year wasn't a good year for archie nor the victory...and perhaps if he doesn't make the squad for the game against Qatar...there is also an opportunity with the asian club championships to prove his worth...and I believe when he archie is playing at his best he is good enough to be in the starting eleven for the socceroos.. |

alan..I share your sadness/grief but mate it's all looking good for the asian championships..chin up..
Probably the other sad thing about it is that they will miss out in playing in the next asian championships..
Big game this weekend against sydney and there's a lot riding on a number of games this weekend for all of the top four..great stuff..
I'm not going to shy away from my earlier prediction that sydney and the roar will fight it out at the end...but you gotta love the crowds that are showing up to games in recent weeks..i love you all...
The truth is that all of the top four are in with a fighting chance for the minor premiership..and also to take out the grand final..I'm just happy to be here..
Central Coast..who have lead the competition all season..perhaps have not been given the resepect they deserve (me included)..so here's hoping that they find some form and go for gold...
We are in for an exciting weekend of football folks.. |

Happy to see victory win last night, and jets tonight.
Sets it wonderfully tommorow vs Sydney, and for the Asian Champions for Victory.
Looks like a record crowd for A League at Suncorp tomorrow, could be 35000 if weather holds out.
I have booked a boatload to join me tomorrow - so it looks like a big night, win or lose.
Cheers |

They are playing good football at the moment..are the victory..
Nick Wards impact since arriving at the victory has been bloody fantastic..here's hoping that he stays beyond his current contract..
Kaz Patafta..is something special..at times I thought he maybe a little to flash, when he arrived at victory...but the kid is all class..as was the case last night...for all to see...watching him last night..I just hope he continues on his merry way...huuuugge potential....
I will be glued to the game tonight with newcastle verse central coast..but you know what..I'm happy that the team is now playing the quality of football that was evident in there previous season...
With the crowd issues down at victory land you would hope that at the end of the day the people voicing there protest would put the football and club first and foremost...I mean for crying out loud what are ya all there for...
I still can't believe both muscat and ward got up for the game last night....a couple of days prior to the game they were no starters...great spirit...
Carn the victory.... |

What an awesome roar when Kaz scored the 3rd goal and put the icing on the cake. The crowd roar was some much louder this week with all of the blue and white brigade on level 1 behind the goals. Well done fans....united we stand.....marching on to Victory!!!
Hopefully Central Coast can do us a favour and beat Newcastle tonight. That would me Newcastle have to beat Perth the following week (a draw will not be good enough because of goal difference)and the Vicotry we would only need a 1-0 win against Sydney next week. OH VICTORY IS SWEET and MELBOURNE are on a roll! |

Good Win !! - Still decent crowds turning up to see the Victory - 25,480 last night saw the boys put Phoenix to the sword! great goals by Hernandez, Ward and Patafta but Wellington did go VERY close to pulling a couple back.
The Jets will be starting to feel the pressure !
Go The Victory!! |

I'm going to still go for the roar and sydney to fight it out for the final..bloody good stuff that... |

Crab
Thompson played well on Saturday, so well in fact, some Roar fans gave it to him every time he touched the ball, and then he went on and did something with it.
Give Victory their due - better team won it, for mine. Mackay was at his worst, and Tiatto is a massive loss in any situation.
Feel better about this weekend, feel we will have wood on the the roaches this time.
Cheers |

Terrific game by the victory on the weekend..
The first goal by the melbourne side was text book stuff..
This was the form that they should have carried over from last season but hey...that's history now..
Just on the results of the last couple of weeks victory can go into the asian cup with a decent shot of confidence..
Look, I'll be honest here and..well..shiite..I'm still entertaining the thought of making the finals..I know..hit me over the head with a frying pan..but..
Reality check is this...newcastle only have to gain a point from the last two games and victory need to win both games...which is unlikely....so what I've done is I've turned down the volume...as I don't know the tune the fat lady is singing...
CAAARN the Victroy... |

Yeah, I agree the top four is looking more settled now..
I do have the benefit of posting this after last nights games..(;
Looking forward to tonights game between the roar and the victory..should be a cracker..here's hoping a good crowd turns up..
It was interesting watching last weeks game for the victory and it was an impressive performance even the though central coast were somewhat depleted of players..a point to raise was it was the most settled I've seen victory play all season..and playing with out there imported players..mmmmmmm..I thought nick ward played a good game as well...
Going into tonights game...and to be honest with you..there is still a little voice going on inside saying there's still hope...there's still hope...referring to making the finals but..get a grip...there's not achance now, of making the finals...and it truly is about playing some good football coming upto the the asian championships..
Reading during the week archie got into some hot water after making some comments in regard to the seating fiasco at telsra dome....i say good on you archie...this issue needs to be sorted out...
Good to see Vargas, Muscat and Archie all been selected to trial for the national team...go victory... |

Well Adelaide had better get their act together tomorrow against Newcastle, otherwise I think the top 4 looks almost settled.
Would be great to see Roar and Sydney in final in front of 53000 at Suncorp.
Even better to see an Asian Champions League opportunity.
Still doesnt hurt dreaming eh?
Should be an interesting weekend.

overroar..you are a genius..but I'd have to say that adelaide have been lacking in recent weeks with there form and..but you know I have always liked the way those boys have played there football..so I'm hoping your right with your predictions...
Ernie Merrick recently came out and backed central coast to take out the title..but sydney for me seem ominious..
Yeah..I'd have to say that the roar and sydney would be my preferred pick at the moment...which would be a fantastic final to have...getting all excited over the prospect..
You know at times we do see some good football played in the a-league..and I don't want to harp on this (as I have mention this before)...but often it is not consistant enough...to often we see lazy, sloppy and undisciplined errors in the games..and I'm not going to apologise for having high standards here..as we do have some terrific players in our midst..
It was a welcome relief to hear and see the new national coach (Pim Verbaak) in recent interviews say that he is not convinced that the a-league players can cut the mustard (my words) when it comes to high pressure games...
consistancy is just that...you have to play good football week in and week out..
I'd also lie to echo the sentiments of roar coach Frank Farina with his disapointments in one man being selected from the roar...they are leading the competition..enough said!! |

Agree again !!!! with u crab, particularly wrt to Merrick. He is calm and reassuring even in adversity. Long haul is more important than immediate and - well I think he is a long haul type. His problems this season is that he had lost his best players, and the signings were not the ones that could do it on the spot.
Have to agree Sydney are looking good, but methinks the Roar are the hot item at the mom. Another youngster blooded (Meinnecon), and looked cool and professional (for an 18 year old) in his first start IMO. And Zullo back next week, what a wonderfull headache for Farina.
Still think final four will be Roar, Coast, Sydney and Adelaide - as i said at the start of season (smart a#$#e hahah)
Have a great new year |

Gee..I've got to say I reckon Sydney's going to shake it up come finals time...I'd even tip them at the moment to take it out!! With four games to go there's going to be some surprises I reckon...so I'll leave my tipping at that for the moment...
Great crowd turned up for the game the other night..I think it was a record actually..beautiful stuff...
Something worth pointing out as well is the coverage the local game is getting in the media...thank you..to you all..
Apparently there are some who want to see Ernie Merrick gone from Victory land and this is just bullshiite...in my opinion...there are a lot of things that didn't go victory's way this year and blaming the coach..as they did after the first year and then KABOOM..what happened in the second..awesome stuff...
Again for me it's all about getting a good run into the asian championships now...
So please leave Ernie alone.. |

Crab
Hefferman broken leg is season ending.
Hope he bounces back bigger and better next season. Yep feel for him.
Heres hoping Victory can get up this week (cant believe I said that!!!)
Game in Adelaide looks interesting. Hope Kossie keeps the hype and attacking minded approach.
Definitely will be watching this one.
Cheers |

Overroared I agree with what you said..
It's going to be interesting to see who out of the foriegn players is going to be dropped due to the rules for the asian club championships..
Getting into the top four is over and out..that we all know..but the important thing for the club is to get a couple of good results in the last weeks of the a-league..so as they can build on this for the asian championships...
Gee..I still can't get over how good that game was the other night..purely from a spectator point of view...it had everything..I do hope that Heffernan heals well quickly..as he has to be a contender for the aussie squad..
I'm getting really excited about the pending finals...it's going to be great!! |

Saw Victory's demise coming before the season commenced. I mailed my top 4 without Victory inclusion at season start.
My view is that the Victory got ahead of themselves, poorly recruited, and were a little lucky with Refs decisions (eg all thiose penalties that Muscat got) when other clubs were denied all penalty calls (eg the Roar) in the first 2 seasons.
Further, many of the other clubs have strengthened, with good recruiting. Many of the better players coming through being young local boys, (Cannot help contrasting local boys with Jardel, who is the biggest plonker in the league - what were the jets thinking!!!).
So - the Victory had better get its act together for the Asian Champions and dont end up as the laughing stock of Asia as well.
I for one will be hoping they can (get act together).
Just my one cents worth. |
