I dont care if Hayden scored 380 against Zimbabwe. Laras 501 was against a superior attack if you do your research. Hayden has done well against pedestrina attacks but when he gaced up to decent fast bowlers like Ambrose and Walsh he did shyte. Check the numbers.
Thonmpson couldnt make it in Holland how will he make it in the EPL? Fair dinkum! Is this joke time or what! lol |

| Nowhere in the world other than Australia is a grandfinal for the league played brisstorm. Players have scored 5 goals in games of higher quality though. I can say it doesnt mean anything when there is a 200+ ranking difference as far as the 13 goals go. Crikey even Zdrilic scored 8 in that game and bmp thinks he is shyte. At least be real about it. |

big - u said "i knew someone would bring that up. So jsut cuz he scored 13 in one match, they should be discluded(?) " now u r saying he scored in 96% of his international games?!?!?!?!!?
oh well I will agree to disagree, I don't think he will go gangbusters in England or Europe, if he had that sort of potential he would still be there battling it out |

No, but are you going to deny him the accolades of scoring that 200, just cuz it was Bangladesh? It was a great effort to get 200.
The fact is, however, Archie and Dizzy are very different in the types of games and their primary role in their team. To comapre them is ludicrous, as batting is not Dizzy's forte.
Archie is a goal scorer. He has scored 13 goals in one game. He scores 1 in 3 at domestic/club level and around 96% at international level. If he aint scoring, he is usally setting them up. I would like to see his assists for his career also.
The point of this debate was Agostini or Archie. Id take Archie cuz he can score bags of goals at a time, can score when the pressure is on, and is a team player. |

| Um...Jason Gillespie (australian Bowler - Cricket) has a TEST double century. Does that put him up there with the greats of batting? |

Lottery is pushing it ab bit too much. He was simply on fire that day. Just cuz it was a weak opposition shouldnt detract from the fact it is 13 goals in an international.
Hayden scored 380 against Zimbabwe. Anyone going to discount that? Lara scored 501 in domestic league. anyonme going to discount that? Of course not. Nor should you, because these are 2 of the best batters i will ever see.
My point is, is that opposition is irrlevant. 13 goals is an incredible achievemnt. this achievemnt is highlighted by the fact that no1 else ahs ever done it. Archie Thompson is an awesome striker. He knws how to find the back of the net. I hope an English club picks him up, cuz he will go gangbusters over there. |

| why don`t you all face facts. No one anywhere in the world has scored five goals in a grand final.Only ARCHIE THOMPSON. He holds the world record for scoring 13 goals in a game. The record is in the books so you can`t go saying it doesn`t mean anything. |

to be honest I don't know cos Man Utd have a habit of taking weak teams lightly (IMO) but saying that if they did score a lot of goals they would be more spread as the style of game they would play compared to the old Aus way is more passing hte ball around and creating not the old rush and charge tactic
my opinion is the 13 goals were a lottery |

we arent talking about team winning margins. we are talking about strikers and how many goals they have scored against weak opposition. We won 31-0. Archie scored 13. Dont getr it mixed up otherwise the debate will go nowhere.
Lets go hypothetical. If Man U were to play, say, Perth Glory, does anyone think the score would be 31-0 and would rooney score 13 goals? And be honest. |

I think australia were ranked about 48 or 52.
I also be interested to see who America Samoa has played to make it a fair argument otherwise saying anderlect is just as weak as American Samoa could be quite wrong (Manchester United defeated them 10-0 back in the 60's I think it was to be their biggest winning margin) |

and what were australia ranked at the time? now, go through history, and im sure u will find that brazil holland france have played sides with comparitive ranking differences. Go through the FA cup. im sure u will find Chelsea and Man U have played against compartively weak sides. As have Barca. As have Real. None of them scored 13 goals.
How can u not credit 13 goals in one game? In the under 14's i scored 7 and i was stoked. to score 13 on international level, reagrdless of opposition is amazing. sure the oppentnts were weak, but 13 goals. come on errol. that is NO MEAN FEAT. |

| He played against American Samoa the 205th ranked side in the world! To give credibility to his 13 goals scored is either showing incredible naivety or unbelievable bias. At least Ago's goals in Switzerland for Young Boys, in England for Bristol City and in the Bundesliga were in respected leagues in Europe. Anyway each to his own. |

i think the 5 did... so he had 10 before finals, allsop had 11. And archie played one game less than allsop. And allsop's goals weren;t as flash as archie's. Fred and Archie both gave allsop goals on a silver platter this year, and made him look a lot better than he is.
and as for Mori, that guy is a national champion. to be 36, play half the season and stills core that many goals is a fair effort. |

a large number of goals in one game can mean anything...luck, weak opposiition and many more possibilities but I think consistancy is the show of how good a player really is if he has scored large amounts in more then a handful of games then yes he could be a great player and from what I saw of the grand final there wasn't much of a defense there to stop him.
But agreed it does tkae 11 players + subs to win a game. I just hope that Archie continues on and makes something of any opportunities he might get. btw does the 5 goals in the final go towards his goal tally for the year?? The tally said he kicked 15, 2 ahead of Allsopp with Mori another 5 behind Allsopp |

im sure they would have in comparison. And im sure Real Madrid, Manchester United, Barcelona with all their world-class strikers and players have played weaker sides.
Just cuz the 13 goals came in one game should not distract everyone from his tally. Sure, it may have been better if they had come in 10 or 11 games, that shows consistency. But 13 in one game shows just how good he CAN be. Jsut like the 5 in the GF this year. Some guys score consistently, some score them all at once. Archie is like that. I personally dont see anything wrong with that. Remeber it takes 11 pl;ayers to win a game, not jsut one striker. |

| i knew someone would bring that up. So jsut cuz he scored 13 in one match, they should be discluded(?) fromn his tally? I dont think so. it gets me angry when ppl say this. People dismiss the fact he scored 13 in a game cuz it was against a weak side. then they dismiss 13 goals from his tally just cuz it was scored it one game. !3 goals in any kind of game is sheer birlliance. it doesnt matter who he was playing. im sure Pele, Ronaldo, Shearer played some very weak sides at both club and international level, and they never scored 13. it is a remarkable effort. one that should be applauded and respected by all fans, not dismissed. |

I didnt know that... Must have been a long time ago. I have seen him in a few games, as i watch ESPN. i never thought he was too crash hot, but not bad. 180 games in 10 years, must be quite injury prone. to score an avg of 4.6 goals a year isnt a good record. do u kno exactly how much he is costing? or is it under the marquee player? Or is the asian fella still under that?
Archie: 21 goals in 23 games for Aus. 132 goals for clubs in 363 appearances. This includes Gippsland, Marconi, Carlton, Melbourne Victory and belgian club Lierse.
Thats impressive. Also, i think Archie is peaking now, as strange as that sounds for a footballer.
The bottom line is that Adelaide need an Agostino. IM not saying its a abd move signing him, its a great move. Im jsut saying id rather Archie. |

| Fair dinkum? You dont know that Paul Agostino has played for Australia? He has scored at nearly 50% when playing for Australia with 9 in 20 games. I said he has had the Duke and Aloisi in front of him and besides his untimely injury they were the reason he did not go to the world cup. 46 goals in 180 odd games at TSV, about 1 in 3. Not a bad record either. Started NSL at 16 in a good side. 17 when he went to Switzerland. You oughta learn a bit more about both blokes careers before saying who you would take. Bet you have never even seen Ago in action. |

Im not talking about aeague performace. im talking abnout skill level. Ago, yes he;s played in the germna league, but what exactly has he done? 46 goals in 10 years or sum shyte? hardly a notable performance. The bottom l;ine is that Archie ahs played for Aus, Ago ahsnt. if Ago was that goofd, he would have got a run against the c//rap countires like archie did.
I would take archie at FC a lot quicker than id take Ago. |

| What do you base your assertion on? His performances in the Aleague? His 13 goals against the 205th ranked nation in the world? I think it is you with you hand on it fella. Archie FAILED o/seas and Ago succeeded. Archie only made the WC squad because the type of striker in front of Ago was Duke and Aloisi and Thompson had no-one like him in front of him. You people need to get real and not wet yourselves over the ALeague GF performance. |

| How many years has Archie spent in a good league overseas brisstorm? He failed in Holland and is what 28/29? Not likely to make it o/seas now. Ago has been front man for a club in the Bundesliga for 10 years. He's unlucky he had to battle the Duke and Aloisi for the same spot in the Oz team. You want to try and seriously debate who is the better player? Fair dinkum! lol |
