I just wish him all the best..to be honest..whatever happens..At victory he is not seeing enough of the park..which is disapointing..He is a terrific player and still only quite young..Good news for adelaide if that is where he ends up..It does seem that he may have a decision or two to make as I believe Perth Glory were also interested in him!!

I love the socceroos...with a passion. Win lose or draw.
What a great performance against China. scoreline aus 2 China 0.
I firstly want to make a comment on the boys commitment..'thank you'..some will have to travel straight back for there club games/commitments...truel y proud of you..
It was Mark Viduka's show in the first half...honestly, the Chinese could do little but stand back and watch as he effortlessly went about his business last night....great stuff!! I hope the duke stays around for the next world cup.
Graham Arnold could take a quite a few positives out of this game...It seemed a different Chinese side came out in the second half and took it upto the aussie team...
For me it holds good for the main course coming up in a couple of months i.e. asian cup..I reckon a lot of the asian teams are going to find it difficult against the aussies...Due to, I believe, the aussies more physical approach to the game...Its going to be exciting...

Not easy beats OR but not supermen either. They dont like physical play and if the kicker Rudan stays his physical self then it's likely Urawas forward will have a torrid time. I'm a fan of Carneys and think he is in the top 5 Oz players at home at the moment.
Dont let the fact that our league has just started and they pay the Asian sides bigger bucks phase you Viggy. We have some quality here in Oz too, just not the bucks.

Re:"Carn the victory" Reply to this message
Thanks Viggy and Rightfella.

It seems that one of you thinks Red Diamonds will be impossible to beat at home and the other (rfella) feels that they are easy beats.

Well I am going to stick my neck out again (done that a few times last years Aleague, and had it half lopped, but there u are!).

Sydney look the goods. Carney/Brosque are really sharp and skillful, and in form, Rudan looks a new man under Culina, and the whole team looks eager and together.

What makes you think I was not a great fan of Butcher. At least I got that one right last year.

Yep - Sydney to make the last 8.

Tell you what overroared, I'm gunna be a sound like a broken record coz I already stated this in 2 other threads. Urawa Red Diamonds have been to Adelaide a number of times for preseason and struggled to beat a combined state league side. Best result has been 2-0. They can be called the MU of Asia but I saw them struggle against an SA state league side on an number of occasions and they dont like physical play. If Sydney have a chance then Adelaide without its best 4 midfielders must be a chance too after facing the Chinese champs of last year- they won the title by 17, yes , 17 points- and only losing on an own goal.

There were 21K to the game last night, not bad for an 8:00 wednesday night game but still not enough to give the ACL the respect it deserves. I mean 1300 Japanese flew over for this game. That said on the field we were excellent, but i just don't think the result will be enough i mean beating them in Japan just seems like an impossible task. I am probably sounding a bit pessimistic here seeing that our achievements so far have been nothing short of amazing. I mean who would of thought we would be matching it with the top clubs in Asia after just two years since our inception.

Also i would just like to note that the atmosphere at that game was Unbelievable. I mean the Uruwa Reds fans would rival any that you would find in Europe, and the Cove was its usual awesome self.

Fair enough right fella, but we were lead to believe Uwara? Red Diamonds were the Man Utd of Asia. Based on that statement, then I think Sydney are up there with a chance - agree?

What a great game in Sydney last night. It feels odd to say this "being a qld'er" but Sydney looked man for man as good - no better - than the $65 Million team that they were supposed to be playing.

Great atmosphere, my partner and i found it brilliant entertainment.

Anyone aware what the crowd was last night, it sounded like a good one, even though there seemed to be plenty of empty seats.

Sydney - may just go all the way IMO. Anyone around here agree?

Well, firstly I want to say that its great that Simon Colisimo is back in contention for the socceroos...With his recent call up to the team prior to the game against China, this saturday....Great stuff!!
Another thing worth mentioning is the lack of news coverage that the sydney and adelaide games had gotten on free to air tv...disappointing...but its what we've come to expect!! Old story...I know..
These two teams have represented not only there clubs but australian football with distinction...What results..bl#@dy fantastic stuff!! Congratulations...

Just read a wellington based consortium have been given the green light to field a side in the a-league next season..I reckon this is good news..It has taken a while..
They need bums on seats and quality players to compete..I hope things have changed from previous efforts...I'm glad the FFA has decided to persist/be patient in this..It's good for the development of the game for newzealand and us..

Brebner warns his old pals of complacencyNEIL DRYSDALE March 16 2007
Grant Brebner, the former Hibernian player who is now enjoying a successful spell at the Australian club, Melbourne Victory, has urged his former club to take nothing for granted when they tackle Kilmarnock in the final of the CIS Insurance Cup at Hampden tomorrow.

Brebner, the 29 year-old midfielder who started his career at Manchester United prior to moving to Easter Road, was involved in a couple of prosperous cup campaigns with the Edinburgh team, reaching finals at the national stadium, but they lost on both occasions, and he now believes they took success for granted in the denouement of the league cup in 2004, only to lose to underdogs Livingston.

"With hindsight, a lot of the boys thought they simply had to turn up to lift the silverware and I hope they learn from that mistake this weekend, because there is nothing like football to provide a reality check if you ever fall into the mistake of thinking that your name is on a trophy," said Brebner, who has emerged as one of Melbourne's most pivotal figures during a season which last month saw them trounce Adelaide United 6-0 to win the Hyundai A-League Grand Final in front of a capacity 55,486 crowd at the Telstra Dome, ensuring qualification for next season's Asian Champions League.

advertisement"Back in 2004, we had beaten Celtic in the quarter-finals and Rangers in the semi-finals and we had a lot of youngsters, who probably thought that Livingston who were then in administration would be a straightforward match. But finals very rarely work like that and, although I missed the game through injury, Hibs couldn't have any complaints at the end after being beaten 2-0. What I remember most about the afternoon is that we took 37,000 fans through to Glasgow and their support was tremendous, so it was a terrible anticlimax to miss out in these circumstances.

Back in 2004 we beat Celtic and Rangers and had a lot of youngsters who thou ...

Hope no A League players are asking for a break. After a short easy season in comparison to their overworked European counterparts they should be champing at the bit to play more games.

Off the subject Adelaide Advertiser has United talking to Sarkies and Lia and Victory talking to Djite. Looks like Qu is a goner as is Fernando. With Ago coming in Burnsy and Djite if he stays (Victory have spare cash with Fred doing the walk- buddy ungrateful Djite- no club wanted to know him and Adelaide gave him a shot- he owes us) Will give us a reasonable strike force. With Salley from NZ and a coup in Sarlies f he was to come it would give our midfield the boost it needs. Still need a left back so hopefully the club addresses that too.

Finally, the national selectors have come to there senses and selected nick carle amongst the socceroos to take on a China eleven next week! Other a-league players to be selected are archie thompson and jade north. Great stuff. Whether these three get a run is another thing but to be included in the national squad so close to the asian championships is a good thing...It seems arnold has a head ache to deal with, with the number of players requesting leave...good opportunity for others..
