Re:"Carn the victory" Reply to this message
I also forgot that Greg Ownen who was very badly exposed and damaged by the GF is now at Newcastle or CC. We have also picked up Kristian Sarkies from Melbourne. Adelaide had no time to wallow after the GF. Although a very depleted squad we had the ACL to deal with so no time for self pity. All the negative influences are gone, Aloisi and Veart being the major offenders after the game. Vidmar is as cool as they come if you ever got to see him play and if you noticed after the game his only criticism was for Adelaide. That implosion will not have the effect it could have had because of what happened as far as us having to go straight onto the ACL and player and coach changes. I will be disappointed if we do not challenge again this year.

Thanks right fella

Good all round summary. The AU squad appears strong, yet there is the question mark of whether last season will affect performance.

If not top 4 - AU will there and about.

IMO

Adelaide will be top 4. I think everyone expects the implosion to continue and with Kemp, Aloisi, Fernando Rech being the biggest losses along with Qu who hardly figured in Season 2, Adelaide could be considered as rebuilding.
Agostino may not have been a high goal scorer (once every three games) but he has been a good provider and young Burns with the Oz side at the moment has potential to score regularly. The midfield of Dodd Diego and Spagnuolo (or Petta) with Salley slightly back behind them will give a better showing. Salley having been a virtual swap for Aloisi (but better than Ross and more controlled). Alagich, Valk.a.n.is , Costa.n.zo and newcomer Brazilian Cassio is likely to be the back 4. There has been talk Les Pogliacomi might sign for Adelaide but likely goalkeeper to be fought again between Beltrame and Bajic. In the wings is Cornthwaite as another right back option after being in Olympic squad with Djite and Burns. Yet to see what Dez Giraldi can do after coming from Italy and being injured all last year. Carl Veart is gone but his best was behind him at 36 and Lucas Pantelis only came back from a knee reco. Not the names of Melbourne, Qld, Sydney but some quite good players who will get behind Vidmar. Only back since the ACL for 2 weeks they may start slow in preseason but anyone writing Adelaide off for the season do so at your peril.

Kinga

Perth might have played second rate opposition. The Super Sports are a top 6 team in a 15 team SA premeir league, and the score was 6 - 1 to the Roar (I think - lost count).

Friends and I thought that was the most polished performance we have seen from the Roar in 2 years. Murdocca and McKay were brilliant, and at last most scoring chances were taken well by the forwards including Ronaldo (First half appearance only with 2 well taken goals). Tis looking good for the upcoming season methinks.

Go the soccerooooos

Re:"Carn the victory" Reply to this message
Not much news in the general media - but it is worth stating that Melbourne old boy Tiatto made a short but incident free appearance for the Roar yesterday against the South African Super Sports. Roar looked good with both Brazilians showing that the Fred phenomena may be replaced by the Roar signings. We were also very pleased with the Roar midfield who were very good at possession and lightening quick (McKay and Murdocca).

Good crowd for a first up practice fixture 11 550, which augers well for the season ahead.

My predictions for season three being:

Perth Glory (looks to have recruited well)
Melbourne Vics (might miss Fred)
Roar (Goes without saying!)
Phoenix (Just a hunch)
Sydney (bunch of silver town pansies).
Adelaide (Rebuilding after debacle from season 2)
Jets (will really miss Carle)
Central Coast (dont know whats going on there).

What do u others think?

Cheers

Don't believe it when they say its 'only a practice game', when victory take on sth melbourne tonight. There is a lot more riding on tonights game than some are letting on..For starters sth melbourne are keen to re-enter the national competition..and would be keen to put on a good show..on and off the field!!
Well it's looking pretty good for the victory as I see they are looking to sign another young and talented player..blo%dy hell can't the season start already!

Carlos Hernandez from Costa Rica was announced as MVFC's newest signing!!

For those who dont go on the MV forum many supporters found out a week or so ago, as news leeked from the other side of the world, but was not confirmed by the club till yeturday ;-)Anyone who also was aware of this may know, that the news first leeked to sydney, and the guy behind that news first said Carlos was going to sydney, but then realised he stuffed up and it was Melb.

Victory also announced a pre season Asian tour in China where Victory will be playing the Chinese NATIONAL TEAM!!!!
and also Melbourne set to face sister-city rivals Tianjin Teda, who currently sit in sixth position on the Chinese Super League ladder.

For more info, jump on the Melbourne Victory website :-)

Have a good one ppl's!!

Just got news from the victory website that they intend to play Sth Melbourne fc at Bob Jane Stadium on Wednesday 20th june at 7pm. This should be a great game to watch....with free tickets on offer..get there early..very early...camp out I reckon...
I reckon a few big wigs from the FFA would have there eyes on this game as well..with the push for a second side from this state to enter the a-league sooner rather than later...Sth Melbourne would have to be a front contender..
Concerns about crowd behaviour have been highlighted in the past with Sth Melbourne....a club with a proud history.i.e. current state league champions, past NSL titles..I think it would be terrific if they came into the a-league....

Ljubo's not going anywhere!

It would look pretty stupid on his behalf if he did leave without even playing a game???

MVFC will not let him go, no chance!
He hardly got a cap in the national team, One of the few reasons for him coming back here. His got more of a chance now.

His here and will be here for the next 2yrs thankyou very much! :-)

As the late big kev would say I'm excited. Yeah, it was sad to see Fred go and he was influential in a lot of the games he played..particularly in the latter half of the season..I thought anyway..But I'm excited about Joseph Keenan and Ljubo Milosevic and what dynamic they can bring to the team...oh, and lets not forget Kemp...If anything I think the victory will be a stronger unit come season three...and that excites me...I won't get to carried away though because I also think a number of other teams are on the improve as well...which makes for good watching...Carn the victory..

Re:"Carn the victory" Reply to this message
I think the important thing about this new stadium is that it does give the victory a home...reading some news recently there were questions being raised over the future of telstra dome..ownership etc..
It was one of there own recently (Paul Roos) that made a comment in regard to the blanket coverage of AFL in this town....And I also took note of a melbourne storm supporter writing into the feedback page in the mx about the lack of coverage that there game is getting.....15 pages of AFL commentary I counted from the back page on Friday of the herald sun...is this for real..I mean who are these people kidding...a paper that boasts media awards, the highest selling paper in australia....Are they seriously saying that they are representing the voice of the wider community...when those that are struggling to get a voice are being *** led, strangled....for there very life...so what is the game boys and girls...because it ain't being played fair...
Just while I'm having a bang about the AFL...I find Andrew Demetriou arrogant and aloof...thinking that he is bigger than jesus...has he get his shirt ruffled in recent times in regard to the current 'drug debate', with the government...no Andrew you don't run the country...there have been some examples in the past where Andrew has shot off his mouth and his ego..i.e. Sydney Swans and his opinion on there style of play...
Look mate, I'm fighting it...to be honest...I enjoy watching the game...I played a bit of amateur footy in my teens...but I'm struggling..the whole thing isn't fair...

Re:"Carn the victory" Reply to this message
As much as i would like to watch all Home games at the new stadium (Bubble Dome lol!) I'm satisfied with the fact that some of our bigger games will be at the dome. MV averages crowds between 26.000-30.000 and thats not when we play AU or SFC. The only time we average more than that is when we play against AU or SFC.

There is room for expantion with the new stadium, so should it come to the point where MV will have to lockout (and i hope not) supporters coming to watch the game at bubble dome then i'm sure not only the club but the government will look into possibly further down the road expanding and we wont have to use the dome.

So for now i'm cool with the bigger games been played at the dome. Look at it this way...We've got the best of both worlds. We have a home ground and we can have blockbusters at the dome where we can get up to 50.000 supporters and financially everyone would be happy :-)

Not only that, OP out grew the average crowd, hence the move to Telstra Dome and the supporter base has just sky rocketed! Great move IMO!

I think Mr Lord :-) never would've agreed to the deal if he thought it would not benefit in some way.

Sooooooo...Not sure about anyone else, but one thing i would love to see at the new stadium is convertable/safe standing terraces!

I know many supporters feel the same way and i think ppl should have the option of whether they want to sit or stand at a game. Not only that, supporters who do love to chant, sing and jump around cant exactly do that while sitting down! that is why we heard so many times and seen so many times seats at the dome were getting broken! NO room, ppl drink, ppl move around and want to create a great atmosphere and they cant.

Ok i've rambled on, so i'll leave it at that :-)
Have great weekend ppl's!
