It was a tight game over the weekend between the Phoenix and the Victory...as frustrated Kevin Muscat was at the time of his sending off..I believe it was justified..and one cannot help but question..did this cost the team it's chance of taking full points..which they so desperately need at the moment..to stay within earshot of the top four..mmmmmmmmmmm..
What did come out of this game for me was how Phoenix had improved and that they can no longer be considered the easy beats of the competition..great stuff..
Good attendances to games over the weekend..
A sluggish affair with the Roar and Sydney..but hey you get that..
Looking forward to see how Sydney goes against LA Galaxy on Tuesday night...my belief is that Sydney will do well..

The Victory have to start notching up some wins else it's going to be goodnight irene...
The game this weekend against wellington is going to be a tough contest...i was suitably impressed in parts with the way they played against sydney recently...though the game also left me frustrated at times...with both sydney and wellington giving the ball away to cheaply at times...
Victory can ill afford to give away points this weekend at home...I've said it and now the coach is coming out and saying it that more work needs to be done in the midfield..the ball is not getting fed enough upfront...this has been victory's achillies heel all season...
It's good news to hear that the club is doing well in the financial steaks as well..if recent reports are anything to go by...great stuff...great stuff...
My tip is Victory to win by two goals this weekend..
Interesting to note that Wellington can still get into the finals this year as well...
News at hand that Ljubo Millicevic has been put on the long term injury list and reports suggest that he won't be available to play until after christmas....

Crab - pity I wasnt there. Bloody business commitments here in Europe. Still - good the hear Roar are still progressing. Its about time their good play put results on the table.

I think Frank has given the players more confidence (and freedom) to play natural games - so here's hoping for a last four place.

Don't know about you guys..but I enjoyed the game last night..between the Victory and The Roar...
Great crowd...good football...what else can you ask for!!
I was happy with the way that Victory played...it's just that they were out played...
Look..Victory this year are a different side to last year..I think on paper a better side..and I certainly haven't given up hope that they will make it into the finals..actually I believe they will..And Archie Thompson for me..shiite he's good...And he and Muscat are the key...
And that young man...Kruse..I think his name is...(tehetehe)..
If people didn't already know of Kruse and Zullo..there about to...these two boys are the future...of this game in the country...

gee Glory finally win their first game in what a year?!?! and they lose 6 players to international duty and depending on fitness tests will only be able to get 12 players for this week's game! they may be forced to grab players from the WA state league which finished over a month or so ago!

Good on ya FFA for not allowing the Glory to postpone this game!

Merrin..hi..
I said earlier that The Roar are going to be one of two teams to fight it out in the final..my mind hasn't changed..
As far as Reinaldo goes..terrific game by him on the weekend...good to see also his desire to stay put in Australia..he also suggested in an interview recently that he would like to press for the national squad..(looking to become a citizen)..
The quality of football has been terrific in recent times by all teams..here's hoping that it can continue...
Good crowd is expected at Suncorp...and there's a bit riding on the game for both teams...
Victory need to win to stay in reach of the top four..
And on the other side of the coin...The Roar need to win to hold onto second place...and to stay in the race with Central Coast for top spot...it's all very exciting...

Re:"Carn the victory" Reply to this message
Good to hear crab.

Roar pushed the ball around a lot earlier in the season - without impressing in front of goal.

I have been away for 3 weeks - so have not seen a match. Are the roar still the same (ball playing side), and what is happening with outr much maligned striker Reinaldo. Has the young guns given him more space - or is he now a class act.

Hope suncorp get a good crowd for this one. Unfortunately I wont be there to Roar them on.

Sydney 0 Victory 0.
I was really impressed by this game..
The Victory play the ball around better and more comfortable than anyone I reckon..I know thats a big statement..when the team is languishing down the bottom end of the table...but I will stand by what I say..they just can't put the ball in the back of the net..
There was some quality passages of play from both teams...
Great crowd..screaming there hearts out..I luv ya's all..
Just really impressed by both teams..actually the quality of football of late has been impressive all round...
I know I didn't mention Central Coast in my earlier prediction...and gee are they running away with it at the moment..long way from the finish line though...
The Victory take on The Roar in QLD this weekend...
Carn the Victory...

Tim..I't s not looking good at the moment..
But mate...keep ya head up..
It was disappointing to lose so late in the game..as was the case last weekend against the Mariners..
But I for one haven't given up on the Victory just yet..
We are only half way through the season..
It's going to be a tough call for the Victory to make the play offs (going on recent form)..there's no question...
The victory have a lot of players out injured or suspended, as in Vargas's case...this is a big concern if they are to going to mount some sort of form resurgence in the second half of the season...
It is almost imperative that they beat Sydney this weekend..such is the importance of this game...
They lose points and I reckon it is almost "goodnight Irene" for the Victory...to make the play offs..
Which is important to note...I don't think The Victory can at this stage...finish the season on top of the ladder (as they did last year)..but do believe they can lift and make some impact in the finals...
But let's not get ahead of ourselves here..they truly need to win this weekend..
In saying all this...the last couple of weeks..the football has been good...by all participating...and I'm excited for what's to come...

Re:"Carn the victory" Reply to this message
I am a Victory fan, and I believe no team has ever played this badly after winning the grand final in the previous year. With the trouble Perth is having, it has taken the spotlight off us, but for how long. We are currently the laughing stock of the competition, after dominating last year, we are having off field problems as well as on. Having 3 red cards in 2 weeks is a disgrace, due to injuries we are having trouble fielding a side but with these suspensions these do not help. Perth will find some form and we will finish last, one recent form that it what we deserve.

Crab - being overseas means I have to take your word for it.

Made me a happy Roar fan to hear that they played well, against the form side at the moment.

So the Roar did'nt miss Tiatto? I assume Mackay was a good substitute then. He is one of the most underated players in the A league in my opinion.

Can enjoy a jolly good pint of warm beer then.

Thanks

The Roar over Adelaide...I got it wrong on the prediction..but it was a good game to watch...At this stage I still feel one of these two teams is the most likliest to take out the final...They both play entertaining games...
The victory look likely to play Thompson tommorrow..which is going to be a tough game away...I do like the combination Thompson has with Leandro and hope that they are given another opportunity tommorrow to play together..
Sydney are sneaking up...behind the pack..
Go the Victory...

Adelaide to win at home tonight...against The Roar..
Has Archie got more serious problems with his groin..mmmmm..I wonder...
Victory can ill afford to lose this weekend..with Sydney and The Roar close behind...happy with a draw in this game...but a loss..could see last years premiers lose grip on there title aspirations this year...
Perth Glory..to break there losing streak...
And Sydney to officially go into title contention this weekend...
Bring it all on! Go the Victory...

I for one will be watching the game on Friday..between adelaide and the roar...at present I believe that thse two teams are the most likely..
I see that Brebnar and Archie are in doubt for the clash this weekend against Central Coast...it's going to be a big ask for the victory...with or without these two players...the victory can ill afford to lose points on this game..with the competition this year being so tight!! Go the Victory...

Tiatto out, could be a very tough assignment for the Roar IMO.

A point is what is wanted - a victory a dream.

The Roar were the better side last time crab but they lacked a finisher. Adelaide are now gelling and coming to grips with Vidmars style so I expect them to continue to improve. If the Roar are poor defensively they will get what the Phoenix and Melbourne did.

Re:"Carn the victory" Reply to this message
Crab

Im overseas at mom, and not happy Roar dropped points last night. Usually the roar are a good footballing side, and sometimes display a flimsy defense. The roar are obviously trying to deal with defense by bringing in the experience of Moore, and you cannot blame him for being uncompromising in doing his job. Having said that, i agree that the referee should have the discretion to punish harshly for bad (dirty) tackles, and I'd say that a red card is about as harsh as a player can get. So lets not get too carried away about hard tackles - they are part of the game and let the refs do their job.

From all accounts the roar game was the most exciting this season, so at least the neutrals would have enjoyed themselves.

Hate to say it (being a qld'er), but i see sydney are 3 - 2 up(82nd minute), and that will be a good result from my point of view, as the roar are only just off the mark with the leading pack at the moment.

Cheers

Re:"Carn the victory" Reply to this message
It's like they ran out of ideas and legs in the end..the ol' victory....
Just couldn't break down the Jets..
But can I say, and this is going to sound shiite..and a tad bias...but what the heck!!
Victory at times play some bloody good football..they really do..possession football...it was evident at the start of this game...but at times they just seemed lost for ideas..and the Jet's broke them down...
But let's not take anything away from the victors...
The Jet's always impressed me in the past...mostly because I am a big fan of Nicky Carle...but watching the game the other night I was suitably impressed with how they held onto the lead till the end...and it was only one goal..
Defensively they are probably the best in the league...
I still think Adelaide and The Roar at the moment are the two teams most likely.....
But victory....so much potential...and you can see it..even smell it at times...
I wonder if they are to reliant on Archie and Danny up front...maybe they need to mix it up...holy bat shiite I'm jumping out of my depth here...Ernie is the man...
Just wanted to make mention something I read recently that Ron Smith had said..Ron suggested that FIFA look into introducing a new type of penalty....outside of the box kind of penalty...the game doesn't need it!!
Ron was responding after an incident happened just recently with one of his players....
It's a fine line isn't it!!
We complain about the amount of theatrics going on..players exagerating fouls to get advantage...
And then we have players trying to break legs..
I do not envy the job of todays referees...
But Danny Tiatto and Craig moore need to pull there bloody heads in...
There are kids watching...and the last thing I want to see is kids taking after these guys antics....
Rather teach them skills, techniques.......
The game at the moment is to physically/defensively orientated..
I step off my soap box...
Defensively

Victory !!! .... To the Jets!

Earlier this year the Jets were ramked equal rank outsiders to take the title. So much for the experts, Jets are going all the way. Victory fear them more than any other team.
