What's wrong with a 3pm start on a weekend? The AFL does it and gets more crowds than anyone!

7.30pm will always clash with NRL and AFL games at this time of year, I think the A-league would be stupid to try to go head to head with the established codes.

I believe one of the problems with crowds this season are silly kick-off times. It is mentioned that Roar's crowds are down. What can you expect with matches beginning at 3pm on Saturday/Sunday. Their next two home games start at 5pm and 3pm Sundays. Piss off Tv getting the say-so. Let's have 7-730 Friday/Saturday evening starts. Better all round.

"The fact is Aussie rules and cricket are the established sports"

Would you care to include Rugby League as well...

We're a bit like the US in that the game can survive as a second tier sport in this country as far as match day attendances go but still continue to produce players that go to the big leagues and still have a fairly good national side.

The fact is Aussie rules and cricket are the established sports as is basketball and gridiron is in the US. And as football is in Europe, Asia and Africa. Hopefully the FFA will understand and respect that position and not destroy the game like the old NSL was destroyed.

A-League - struggling Reply to this message
Potential A-League clubs in Canberra, Tasmania and Western Sydney may be postponed indefinately by the FFA following poor crowds to start this seasons competition.

With neither of the 2 new clubs, Gold Coast Utd and North Queensland Fury, managing to crack the 10,000 mark for any of their home games so far - despite them playing host to 'marquee' clubs Sydney and Melbourne.

With Nth Queensland boasting big name signing Robbie Fowler and the Gold Coast sitting on top of the A-League table, the poor crowds have been very disappointing, even when considering the NRL is still in full swing.

Brisbane Roar, one of the leagues foundation clubs, is also looking at a move away from the expansive Suncorp Stadium. The Roar needs to average 15,000 a game at the venue to make a profit - a target they are well short of achieving.

- I have said for ages that the over-the-top 'we're going to take over the AFL' claims by the soccer community is unrealistic, and I think current figures only reinforce that belief.

I liken it to basketball in the early 90's, they were crowing that they'd take over the nation and that our cricket and footy sides would struggle to attract any decent 'talls' as they will all be following the $$$ in the NBL and NBA.

Well, less than 2 decades on and basketball in this country is damn near dead.

Soccer will survive, but there is no way in my lifetime that it will overtake the AFL and I doubt it will get close to the NRL either.

The A-league and the FFA needs to be realistic and allow the competition to walk before they try to make it run - even if that means I have to wait 20 years to see my Tassie Utd run around.
