Actually,
it did happen once in a match in Argentina, when the ball deflected off a very large beach ball into the back of the net
Hang-on, sorry. It was actually Maradona who deflected the ball. |

Yep-
Not a lot of depth in your side. That is why I don't think you will be holding any major trophies above your heads this year. Torres does seem a little accident prone. |

| Yep, not the best at all - we rely too much on Gerrard and Torres, and they've both been injured. |

My best mates a Liverpool supporter and I tell ya, I laughed so hard when I heard about the beach ball incident.
Not a good start for your boys this year nye. "Hanging by a thread" in the champions league too. |

That is a low blow Sushi - even for you! :P
I hear the ref has been stood down from the EPL this weekend - lucky it's an English comp, if he did that in Sth America he'd already have been beheaded! |

| Apparently the guy that threw the beachball goes under the alias of "Brownnose". The authorities are still trying to uncover his real name but have come to the conclusion that he represents the "average" mindset for a Liverpool supporter.. |

Listening to the TV commentator covering the game at the time, he said that he'd consulted the rule book, and claimed that it was the responsibility of someone from the defending team (ie in this case Liverpool) to take care of the beach ball.
I understand that the beach ball had a Liverpool logo on it, and had been thrown onto the pitch from the Liverpool supporters end of the field. Don't think it would've been a pleasant coach ride home for the particular supporter. |

You're correct the goal should have been disallowed under the law you mention. The amazing thing is that the ref consulted his assistant before giving the goal. You would expect one of them to know the law.
I have no axe to grind so my view is impartial (apart from the fact that I support NUFC and wouldn't give Sunderland the steam off my sh1t) |

I am puzzled as to how the Sunderland goal against Liverpool was counted? It rebounded off a beach ball, surely that comes under the outside interference rule?
The goal proved to be the match winner and was potentially a fatal blow to the Reds title chances - though they are more to blame than the beach ball for that as they have looked disinterested at times this year. |
