AFL is not big enough, nor Soccer weak enough anymore to be crushed by AFL.
A-League, National Youth League, W-League - the global game is taking over.
In shop windows you see Chelsea posters taking pride of place whereas ten years ago that was unheard of. |

| Or, its success or failure could well decide the AFL's future plans in the state. They'd be less inclined to look at the state if they can't support a soccer team, and they may feel compelled to 'crush the resistance' if the A-league side goes well. |

With a bit of luck I will have a team to support in the A-league soon enough! I enjoy watching the comp, but it lacks a lot when I don't have a team to barrack for (I refuse to pick a side - I want to support Tassie and ONLY Tassie!).

TASMANIA UNITED PLAN AHEAD.
At the official launch of Tasmania United in Hobart earlier today, club chairman John McGirr predicted a bright future for the Tasmanian Hyundai A-League aspirant.
Speaking to an audience of Tasmanian business, sporting and media personnel, at an event hosted by Tasmanian radio presenter Tim Cox, McGirr thanked all those involved in turning an idea into a reality. 'To be in a position where I can tell you all of the positive future in store for Tasmania United FC, and indeed all of the Tasmanian world football family, when earlier this year I was just one of six enthusiastic believers, I find truly amazing.’
'The encouragement from the national body the FFA, in Tasmania from the FFT, the clubs, indeed from Tasmanians state-wide and beyond has been remarkable,' McGirr added.
The club website (www.tasmaniaunited.com.a u) was also officially unveiled, while McGirr expressed confidence that discussions with various state government departments and institutions bode well for the future of the bid.
Special guest at the launch was Fox Sports presenter Simon Hill, who congratulated 'Tassie United' on their endeavours thus far and reiterated his belief that to build an identity closely associated with the Tasmanian community would be an ideal scenario. |
